Ive asked this before at an earlier point in this thread but thought I would ask it again at this point. Do any of you here have family or friends that have tested positive? How are they doing? Do you know anyone outside family and friends personally that has it? Have you been tested?what was that experience like where you are?

EXACTLY. For all the talk of doing things in a smart sensible and safe manner based on conditions.. we obviously have a state Governor that isnt basing the decision to open on anything except his desire to get his states economy going now... even if it obviously isnt ready for that and everyone can see it, even adjoining states and the white house.

Its no different though than whats going on in Florida... openning things up while simultaneously stopping the reporting of Covid related deaths and nursing home deaths.

The pressure to re-open is causing it to be done prematurely. .History repeats itself...this happened during the spanish flu.

The problem is when the decisions in dealing with this pandemic are left to people with little clue as to how sciences and diseases work.. bad decisions are often made.

I know and do agree with you.its a reality we have to accept. However, people also may need to adapt and accept that at least for the short terms they may not be able to do what they always did as they always did. We havent faced something like this since the spansh flu and that took 2 years to run its course. If you read what was done then what they failed at its not a great outlook for rushing today. We do have tools today they did not.. but our overall short sightedness hasnt changed much in 100 years.

I also do not believe the 9 month scenario thats being touted. I worked in pharmaceuticals and drug development I think they are being overly optimistic because thats what people want to and need to hear.
I hope I am wrong on that but I am very skeptical on it.

I'm kind of wondering how many members here at PF at this point in time would feel comfortable enough to eat out at a dine in restaurant? Not worth the risk to me and my family...Its going to be a very long time before I trust our health and well being in that scenario and others like it. I feel badly for workers and business owners in these areas but nothing is more important than my families health and well being. There are other more safe options to eating out... IE.. cook.

I dont see how without a vaccine or effective treatments that places inherently prone to disease transmission will be safe regardless what politicians say.

Lets face it...Unfortunately, at least in the USA there are things that complicate having well thought out plans that put peoples safety first, and are actually based on historical precedent, science, and common sense. The major one that comes to mind is an event in NOVEMBER that I am very sure is a mega factor.. The economy and everday citizen Jobs are of course important to all the players, but our leaders Jobs are also on the line.

Allen,

Its called deflection. Its when one tries to draw attention to another individual so you do not look at them. JMO,but I think its pretty Pathetic that this State Rep. Cheryl Helmer has made the Governors Covid-19 plan about her "hair". What a petty and unprofessional thing to do .. request ..There was nothing Respectful in it.. Meanwhile in the real world... People are are sick and Dying from Covid-19.

So Florida is openning up alot of the state and their Governor who has been criticized for being slow to respond to the pandemic was recently quoted to be down playing the pandemic.

Florida will start to reopen May 4, but for now Miami-Dade and two other counties won't be included - CNN

I find it interesting that Florida no longer reports covid 19 death stats or nursing home ones.

I have read that some big box stores changed their return policy so things like toilet paper could not be returned , I guess they expect buyers remorse to set it at some point..

Its kind of funny ... finding chicks and young layers is very hard now in Ct... elsewhere too from what I have read. I Keep hens and have for many years.. but while trying to get a few young ones for the coop it was extremely hard.I guess alot of people decided to try their hand at it since the Pandemic. Whats funny is these folks have never raised hens. Alot of them are buying chicks now.. its going to be a long while before they get eggs! Im expecting to see alot on craigslist when the reality sets in.:)

Still I am glad that I took up back yard chicken keeping..

agree there on both counts.

Seems common sense to me that we should have a few weeks of what we need for when we need it and can't get it.... Its come in handy where I live during the aftermath of storms. Thats a principle I think many in more rural areas do routinely... Urban areas, not so much.

I think you have it very wrong. "Damned Preppers ?" Preppers weren't the ones emptying the stores.. It was the ones that were not prepared that rushed to the stores.. A prepper builds their stores up over a time long before its needed, as in months and Years... Hence " preppers" Prepare.

Wouldn't be much of a prepper if they waited until an emergency to Prepare.

There is at least one group of people out there right now that are feeling very vindicated. For years "Preppers" warned that these things would happen and they stocked up, learned self sufficiency skills etc. Some went as far as building underground bunkers. In the wake of natural disasters long term food storage companies thrived as a small but growing number of people stocked up. Preppers were often ridiculed for their efforts though. Theres an irony there in that while everyone has been scrambling to find toilet paper, foods, and necessities, Preppers have been rewarded by years of planning on having to rely on themselves.

This pandemic has shown us alot of weaknesses in how we do things and what we expect for services from our countries and economies.

I'm wondering what we/you have learned from all this? When this Pandemic is over will you do things differently? Are you already looking at things differently. Will you keep several weeks of foods and supplies on hand now that you have experienced one of the scenarios "Preppers" prepared for?

Its fair to say that this Pandemic will have long lasting and far reaching effects on us as societies, but what about you as individuals?

Do you think this Pandemic will bring "prepping"into main stream from where it was at the fringes?

I read all the Hornblower stories as a kid. :) Enjoyed them greatly.

If you change your mind about the wanting to know more about the spanish flu from a historical perspective... read the links I posted this morning. I believe they give a solid window view into alot of what we are seeing today around us and have discussed here in this thread. There is alot to learn from history.

Another historical piece from the spanish flu pandemic.. Minnesota epicenter.

Lessons Learned from the 1918–1919 Influenza Pandemic in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota
Lessons Learned from the 1918?1919 Influenza Pandemic in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota

Please note the closure of churches as well as all businesses. Its also noteworthy that there were protests against restrictions, there were acts of defiance, there was a disjointed response to the problem. There were arguments about re-openning schools. There were treatments touted including 2 "vaccines"

HISTORY most certainly repeats itself. You could easily change the dates by a hundred years and many should see the parallel to modern times.

Why? Because without an effective means of treating the illness(medication) or preventing it (vaccine).. its the only tool we have that has shown itself to be effective at lowering the loss of human life.

Westport Ends Controversial Coronavirus Drone Program Amid Uproar | Westport, CT Patch

Admittedly, I do not like drones.. they do have some uses that I think are positive but mostly I can do without them. That aside... the article is interesting on several levels..

I should note that Westport was the site of CTs first major epicenter attributed to a large party..I have to wonder if the experience and press made the town more amenable to drone tech being used.

Its also of note that they don't say what they would have done with the data collected.

Jer,
That crime seen is too clean. No signs of a struggle. Its likely the vic was killed elsewhere and moved to this location. The hairs of the bee are matted and wet as if it drowned or was spit up..I think we can rule out birds by the intact condition of the body, spiders are also unlikely..

The small abdomen and absence of any sign of a stinger may indicate our vic was actually a drone male that died of natural causes or perhaps drowned.:)
