macro and portrait lens

hi, as an owner of both (sold back the tamron):
the Pentax has rounded aperture blades, the Tamron's are straight. Transition & bokeh are more pleasent for me on the Pentax.
the Pentax is really really better looking. For portrait work, it's a plus.
the Pentax has faster AF.
the Pentax is WR, so even if you don't use it under rain, it should resist more in time.
the Pentax is lighter and smaller and has less elements.
the Pentax has the AF quickshift, not a plastic focus limiter knob.

Hope you'll greatly enjoy your new Pentax Macro WR 100mm 2.8

tested both. both are good. kept the da* . corners are always softer than center of course, but it doesn't mean corners aren't sharp enough to have very decent results wide open.

it's a bad review because:

A lot of pro photographers today aren't used to Pentax. And a lot of photographers / reviewers today are mediocre.

that's all.

it's just a bad review made by mediocre testers.

have you tried the DA 55mm without the hood? with this hood taken from a 28-105mm the vignetting is minimal on the DA 55.

New example of what the K-1 + DFA 24-70 @3200 ISO can deliver with different lights, moving subjects and no flash.
The colors are accurate, the highlights and shadows are great.

low light advices

Well in a matter of fact no, not that much, as it depends of what he is shooting and how.

his main issue is light. "poor" light.

I need to know what his lights are in order to give a good reply . And also, i don't know is he using that poor lights to shoot something and/or is he shooting other lights.

Different lightsources have diffent CRI (= color rendring index). And CRI has as impact on color rendition, independent of white balance you choose, creating color shifts and having impact on accurate rendering.

ISO is secondary

your case is very particular. ISO capability won't solve it alone and is not the main issue.

what is the type of light you use ? tungsten? leds? incandescent? ..?

the source of light is by far the most important thing for pictures in general, and for your pictures too. especially considering the poor amount of light you want.

then, you can think camera and lenses :)

Bringing Kermit over here to validate this wasn't necessary but sure it's cool

Both your photographic and physics standpoints are irrefutable, and of course everything else is myth considering technology today.

That said , things would only different in the film world, comparing an APS-C sized film & 35mm, of more, or 35mm or 6x4,5 with photographic chambers. Mostly because of chemical/physical specs of the photographic support.

Honestly i still use aps-c a lot today, even if i use FF everyday.
I used digital APS-C for years combined with medium format, and no FF for years.
What did i use most? APS-c. Why? because of the equipement size.
What do i use most today? FF. Why? the equipement size again, large prints possible with broader shooting capabilities than medium format.
And why do i still use APS-C? equipement size again. a little fuji with a little lens goes unnoticed and delivers great pictures with lovely sizes to process rapidly.

I hope one day Pentax will develop a similar to Fuji Xpro, aps-c camera, as it will surely become my everyday camera.

allright, i am sorry for my wrong assumption on your subjectivity.

You point out perfect arguments.

But truth is none of us can know which type of critique will be more effective. As we don't know the future. If some go crazy about it, it simply means they're pushed too much and overdeceived. Rational arguments, shouted loud or not are still rational arguments. If some are more sober, silent and patient, i'm happy about it, congratulations.

So I insist on the fact that both type of pentaxians are to be supported by fellow pentaxians, when Pentax support is failing to properly respond to their legitimate demands.

Did anybody get a post-Brexit-vote Photo bargain on price or shipping from the UK?

Did the same
Just after the Brexit, pound lost 10% against euro.
Some companies like online stores ASOS, simply closed the shopping acces.

On Ricoh Imaging UK website, maybe 2 hours after the vote, prices had already been changed. Maybe because they're good indexed to exchange rates?

The day after the Brexit, the pound already gained to 5-6%. So no real deals to make out there, and companies had time to adapt.

As i'm in France, i was interested to look on Ebay UK, they have good pentax dealers like SRS Microsystems. But no deals whatsoever.

So, as for EUR/Pound, no deals. Seems no USD/Pound either.

Maybe deals will be more attractive if the pound goes down in the next few months !

Some pentax guys, like you, should show a bit more solidarity with guys like Ari (or myself) that get "emotional" like you say, when Pentax spoils customer service.
Because :
- maybe you're not empathetic, but that's not a big deal. Just think the same thing could happen to you. And the more you let pass a constructor's liabilites on the market, the more it'll probably happen.
- If the constructor doesn't show enough respect for it's customer, he may leave the brand. And the entourage and so on will be aware, especially as a pro shooter. That's bad for Pentax. If other customers don't show solidarity in these cases, chances are even grater he will dump Pentax. And that's bad business.
- If you don't use Pentax professionally, there's a big change that you're on Pentax because of subjective reasons. Objectively, for hobby photography, all brands do the same job. Chances are you chose Pentax subjectively. So you're not entitled to judge other's subjectiveness.

Learn to care.

EMERGENCY NOTE to Ricoh Imaging / Pentax in France

Amigo, the problem with Pentax cameras in Europe is simple: outsourcing customer service.
Main reason may be their tiny market share here.
If the outsourced company (here, PM2S), send back bad serviced cameras, who suffers? me, yes. Who else? Pentax Ricoh Imaging.

The answer is in your argument: " When you consider the number of Pentax cameras in the hands of consumers, compared to problems with those cameras, I think Pentax products are very good" .

Well, 2 other cameras manufacturers have 10 times & more bigger market share. If you want to make the people attracted by canikons to buy , or change for & stay with pentax, pentax customer service must at least be equal to canikon service.

Anyway, seems i'm much more loyal to Pentax than you are. I wouldn't change the brand, like you would ;).

---------- Post added 06-30-16 at 08:26 AM ----------

At the end, hopefully my attitude is a lot more beneficial to Pentax than your response is.

you are totally right !

so maybe it's time Pentax Ricoh understands too that investing billions in R&D is not enough to conquer new customers and that they should extend their marketing over young & talented internet visible guys like Damien. Having ambassadors on 645 systems and a lot of Theta sales, won't bring new guys to Pentax's APS-C nor FF system.

Oh.. sorry to hear :(

Maybe mine was misaligned too when out of factory, but as it travelled a lot from japan to european online store , and then though postal devilery... all the shocks, vibrations aso due to transport magically replaced the USB dock :D

so solution , put it on a washing machine or near a lousy car engine for some time, there's a chance to solve the issues ! :)

Joke aside, this is pretty embarassing. If they put a high end lens, unique, on the market, they should pay more attention to quality control

Almost completely agree on this with Qwntm

It all depends on what your shooting approach and style is.

When you look at Helmut Newton's photographs, there's almost never a question of DOF at high apertures, and almost really never bokeh related.

He would've perfectly done maybe more than half of his work on a modern APS-C, and he would've maybe even be doing it in a more fantastic way.

I've been using manfrotto & some old gitzos for some time. For travel, i discoverd 3LG two years ago.

got two carbons, a very high and a short depending on the travel, on long travels i take both as i can use deported flashes on them.

The short & compact little one that handles the 645D+75mm very well, it's the KEITH Evolution 2 - 3LTX0LEGS.

i use their basic Rotule Ball AH0.

hope i could help !

EMERGENCY NOTE to Ricoh Imaging / Pentax in France
Posted By phat_bog
Replies: 50

Thanks for the info!

But now as i could further investigate and have an official Pentax Ricoh Imaging Europe response :

My conclusion are clear :

i) Europe is a difficult market for some foreign companies. As European Union is so made that regulations are much more strict than everywhere else in the world, when it comes to many things, and especially consumer protection.
In this sense the old democratic culture here, and the way things evolved more recently with EU, consumer's protection and satisfaction are the Golden rule. I think the kind of "emergency" note i wrote by reading ready to diffuse it through much more effective channels is proof enough.

ii) The outsourcing company is the problem in my particular case, and i'm sure in most of other similar cases. Pentax Ricoh Imaging were very cooperative and showed real concern about what happened. I'm in no doubt that they will double efforts so this thing don't happen. And i'm in no doubt that PM2S will do the same. Concerning PM2S i still have a complete file ready to take off through lawsuit, i will wait a bit to see how they manage to fully take responsability, in the future.
Given the parts on the market, i belive that Ricoh Imaging doesn't have other choices out here than to keep on working with them and double their attention.

iii) If we all shoot Pentax Ricoh : means we support and appreciate Pentax. How will Pentax Ricoh conquer new customers if almost all pentaxians turn round and round promoting love for Pentax almost only on Pentax Forums, closed facebook groups, and other dedicated Pentax Ricoh groups on ohter websites ?
In Paris, i'm the only customer under 50yo (actually i'm into my 30's...) i've crossed the many times i go to the official Pentax Store. The Pentax guy seems always pleased to see a young photographer buying expensive stuff, for which i work hard.
Go see the number of instagram hastags of canikon, fuji, against ricoh & pentax. It's a huge tremendous diference. and almost all the rare ricoh are fot the Theta btw.. As long as pentaxians stay united but don't open up and promote virally their modern gear with pentax hashtags , comments or simply FB quotes, we don't count as pentaxians. It's a mutual help me help you relationship we need with Ricoh Pentax Imaging.

I'm available through pm for further questions.

FA* vs DFA* il for me like comparing a an old Porsche 911 vs the more recents Porsche Boxster.

They're both great looking and you can do all the things you want them to do on the road,
But the design, durability, power and beauty of conduct of the old 911 will never be matched by a Boxster.
