I've been so impressed with the Nikon Z colors. I'm no colormonger, but the Z jpegs look as good as anything out there. DXO PhotoLab has a setting for emulating the Z colors - among dozens of other cameras - and it is my favorite for use with my older lenses, the punchiness works so well without being over the top.

One thing I've realized over years of comparing kits is that it is not entirely sensible to try to duplicate one manufacturer's lineup with another's. Pick the gear that is most appealing from each manufacturer (plus third-party) and create configurations that speak to you. They might be significantly different from one another.

HD Pentax DA 560mm f/5.6 ED AW replacement : what are your thoughts ?

QuoteQuote:

The camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS II AF system is so sensitive it can focus in as little as 0.05 seconds3 and operate in light levels as dark as -6.5EV1 which is roughly the same as the light from a quarter moon. The EOS R6 is the first EOS to have this level of sensitivity, which lets it focus with maximum apertures as small as f/22, allowing teleconverters to be used with relatively narrow-aperture lenses, including our ultra-portable super-telephoto lenses, such as the RF 800MM F11 IS STM and RF 600MM F11 IS STM.

This TCSTV guy - Dave - is admittedly a MILCman, so it stands to reason he is not as impressed as some of us are by the OVF.

I took a look at some of the other TCSTV camera reviews, and this one for the K-3 III is significantly shorter than their other camera reviews. It might be due to lack of interest, or it might be due to the other member of the TCSTV duo having recently given birth.

Actually, because you mentioned EVFs, I assumed you did, in fact, mean an EVF that was "equivalent" to an OVF. For a long time, MILC APS-C bodies did not offer EVFs as large as the OVF in Pentax bodies, and those EVFs tended to be rather low-resolution. Things have improved, though, and it is fair to say that a well-specified EVF is "equivalent" to an OVF. Each viewfinder has its own strengths and weaknesses, with no particular reason to mock either.

As far as being a contrarian goes, perhaps you are thinking of someone... who is not me ;)

Major Vent: Considering Departure from Pentax - Frustrations with Repairs

The lack of a decent support system is the primary reason why, if I ever decide to give up my lovely older glass and sink money into a modern long telephoto lens, it will not be with Pentax.

I view several photography gear related forums and have seen equipment failures from every system, so it's not reliability/durability I'm especially concerned with... but if something breaks, either through a defect in the gear or a user-generated mishap, I want to have confidence that I can send the damaged item for repair and have it returned in (somewhat) timely fashion. And I have no confidence in Pentax's ability or willingness to do this - at least here in the USA.

F/11 is OK with the Canon R5/6, Clackers. Just ask K-3 shooters using their D FA 150-450 @ f/5.6 on cloudy days - their images will have similar noise profiles to the Canon R6 + 800/11.

Canon AF is rated to f/22, so the AF should be fine.

The 800/11 appeals to folks who either can't afford better, or those you simply seldom shoot long tele, but want the ability to have the occasional longer reach without spending too much $$ or having to lug around a large, heavy lens - even pros have uses for this!

These lenses aren't Rebels, because they include features like OIS and Fresnel optics, a definite step-up from the bottom-feeder Rebel philosophy.

The 600/11 seems like a waste to me, but the 800/11 is a smart move. It might even whet the appetite for some users to save up for more expensive gear, which Canon will love.

not your usual professional baseball play

In a play filled with inexplicably bad decision-making, the Pirates still could have simply gotten out of it when they had Javier Baez at home plate. If the Pirates tag Baez, even after the Cubs runner crosses home, the run does not count.

I'm a Mets fan since the '80's, so I've seen a superabundance of baseball idiocy, but this play takes the cake.

Regardless; if you want to use your EF lenses on a mirrorless Canon, you'll need an adapter. Same with Nikon and the F mount.

Also, it's been something like 20 years since Nikon released a screwdrive lens.

Canon doesn't need luck with the 800/11, Clackers - folks are deliriously happy with it! It's been sold out here in the US for weeks. Five star ratings at B&H and Adorama, 4.5 at Amazon.

Any suggestions on a beginners level wildlife camera/kit under $1000 CAD?

The Canon lens included in that bundle - the 75-300 III - does not have image stabilization, and neither does the body. IMO, that is a no-go.

I think the 2 big questions before plunking down your cash are:

1. Do you have a brand preference? Do you have a family member or friend who already shoots Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc. and thus might be willing to share gear with you?

2. Do you envision yourself growing more serious about wildlife photography and eventually spending more money? If so, a future upgrade path is something to consider.

Asking Price

Item Description
Selling my excellent HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE.

I just can't seem to bond with this lens, despite the impressive output. Maybe the fact that I also bought the superb Tamron Adaptall-2 180/2.5 63B around the same time has something to do with it

The 55-300 has sharp, saturated, contrasty output and certainly lives up to its reputation for speedy AF. I didn't notice any front/back focusing issues on my K-70 and K-3 II - of course, YMMV on that.

Lens has slight dust and signs of wear, and is in overall excellent condition. Comes with original hood and caps, and I'm also including a soft case for it.

Shipping is free in the USA, at cost worldwide.

The Canon 600/4 L III weighs the same as the Pentax 560/5.6.

F4 makes teleconverters more feasible.
