Short Lee Enfield, a.k.a. the "303". Can remember firing these during my time as a school cadet, one of the best bolt action rifles ever made.

Still a functioning brewery producing the best beer in Tasmania (and Australia some would say!)

My first attempt at HDR photography, using the K-5s autobracketing rather than its HDR.

Dustdevils, stains and halo's

My K-5 had several spots appearing in high aperture no. images surrounded by halos, supposedly typical of the stain, so I sent it to the Australian Pentax distributors (C R Kennedy). Phoned them the other day to see how it was going and they advised that it wasn't the stain, just dust on the sensor. They are doing a sensor clean and I should have it back in the next few days. Hopefully all will be good!
So were new K-5s distributed with dust or other rubbish on the sensors? I know with mine, even though I did change lenses, I was very careful each time.

K-5 in Australia?

If you do make sure you take them at high aperture numbers - ie. F22. I found a clear blue sky was as good as anything for this.
Initially thought mine was stain free, but I used Live View for an extended period and all of a sudden had a large number of spots appearing. Apparently Live View/Video heats up the sensor and can cause the stain to appear. Sent it to C R Kennedy today for assessment.

The K-5 Lemons Continue the Pentax Saga...

Back in the day I took a lot of motorsport (circuit & rally) pics with my (film) Pentax KM & Tamron 125 & 200 fixed length telephotos. It required very active M/F to get good shots! The ease of using A/F these days is making people soft!

For example:

Well for years (until DSLRs?) we only had manual focus anyway. Have we got too lazy relying on A/F? I use M/F as much as I use A/F.
