Thank you for posting this. I have a couple of Kodak 620 cameras and a pack of Portra 620; it's nice to know whom I have to thank for being able to use those lovely old cameras.

Hello and welcome! Thank you for sharing your interesting journey to Pentax. I've long been a fan of Panasonic m43 and could not understand why my local shop only sells Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus or why those brands outsell others in spite of being no better at all. They're good, but not better. I've recently switched to a Pentax K3II for higher resolution and find it much more intuitive to use than other cameras in its class. Congrats on getting your new K1!

1. At least one really good lens suited to the kind of photography you're doing, and a protective filter.
2. At least one spare battery.
3. Bag
4. Sturdy tripod
5. Flash and wireless triggers

👌

It was really, really tempting, and a good value for a full-frame, but the K3II fits my hands and budget better, and the resolution is sufficient for my purposes.

So, I managed to resist, this time... 😉

Mirrorless vs Mirror?

Three years ago I pitted a Panasonic GH1 against a Canon 50D and chose to keep the GH1. Before digital I was using an SLR, so went from optical finder to evf. My reasons, at the time were:

1. Lighter smaller body and lenses. (In my experience, normal and telephoto m43 lenses are not as large as DSLR. Case in point, my lovely, compact and sharp Panasonic 45-200.)
2. At the time, a mirror less flagship system was more affordable.
3. The copy I had of Canon's 15-85 IS lens was soft at the sides, so that I had to crop to the point that 16 mp were no advantage over 12. My Pannie 14-45 was sharp except in the far corners, and more affordable.
4. The evf was smaller than I'd have liked (same as my GH3) but never gave me issues other than in very low light. Maybe all evfs are not created equal.
5. Ergonomics. (Rarely have i needed to go digging into my Pannie's menu. There are buttons on it I have never used.)

Then I stumbled across the Pentax K3II, and it was just a matter of finding a lens or two I could love. But I will say, if it was mirrorless, I'd like it even more.

Windows 10 won't recognize my printer (USB 2); seems Microsoft still has bugs to fix.

I about can't live without my polarizer, but my UV is only for protection. I noticed today that my filter is much more dust resistant than the lens, as well.

Ever had one of those DOH! moments?

I had two of those moments today. Thought my new lens had quality control issues: 1. It came with the hood (screw-in type) already attached, so I thought the filter size must be wrong. 2. I forgot it's a variable aperture zoom....

That's a great pic for illustrating the feeling.

I'm told 'tis more noble to zoom with our feet, but having a moderate amount of zoom, in my experience, can make a great deal of difference in nailing a composition.

It got here today, and it's a winner!! Wow, cannot believe the amount of detail this combination gets! I'll add some photos soon, but got to learn how to do that here, first.

Wow...!!!

Thanks Kevin (and everybody) ☺

Mine arrived today, and after help clearing up two silly user errors, I can say this is the sharpest camera and lens combo I have ever had. It's unbelievable! Will post photos after I learn how.

Oh... I feel sheepish...

One more issue, though... the camera reads the widest aperture as 3.5, or either the aperture isn't opening up completely. ??

My new lens arrived. Filter size is supposed to be 55mm, but even a 49 mm filter is too big. I've already returned a different lens due to QC issues. Now what am I supposed to do?

Thanks for the welcome ☺

The K-3II is pleasingly intuitive, for certain. I think it will make a fine creative landscape camera, especially with the various compositing tools - can barely wait to try them!

microlight - The HD 20-30 Ltd arrives tomorrow. It looked, by the specs, to be an excellent landscape and walk-around, like a sharp prime with "wiggle room."

Hello from North Carolina USA. I'm an amateur photographer who started with an Olympus OM10 and took up digital photography with a used Panasonic bridge camera about ten years ago. Got a G1 and a pair of zooms in 2010, a GH1 the following year, and upgraded to the GH3 two years ago. I've been invited to have a gallery show at our local art guild and decided it's time to get some extra resolution. The Pentax K3 II caught my eye, and now there's one in my house! (I tried a used Canon 50D prior to getting my GH3, but didn't like going into the menu for so many things.) Now I'm waiting for a lens to arrive this week; meanwhile I've tested the camera with my Mamiya manual 55 mm lens. I think it's a keeper.
