Stinging Nettle, look and enjoy the fragrant flowers, but don't touch!

Edit: That is, Cnidoscolus stimulosus, not Uritica dioica, the more widespread plant with the same common name.

That's one way to do it. Another is to use flash; because of the small subject size in macrophotography, you can get beautiful diffused light just using the pop-up flash with a diffuser (which can be homemade). And another is to shoot in bright light and take lots of shots.

So sharp! :D Seriously, lovely lighting and 3-d feel.

Got the old Vivitar Series I 90/2.5 out for a session, first time in a while. This is also a focus stack, 3 shots:

traveling regrets with photography?

Sometimes I have regretted taking too much gear. Not so much for the bulk and weight. I'm thinking of a particular trip where I brought both medium- and large-format gear. It made me indecisive once out in the field, at least for the first day or two. I did eventually settle down and got images I liked from both systems, but I'd have done as well or better with less fuss had I stuck to one or the other.

Actually, the original "firefall" was pushed off Glacier Point (a few miles up the valley, on the other side), and I think this continued into the 1960's. Galen Rowell's 1973 image is the one that drew attention to Horsetail Falls. And yes, as with so many iconic photo locations in the age of Instagram, this one has exploded in popularity.

Just so happens that Google Maps has a "street view" of one of the trails in the area, not the exact trail you were on, I think, but one that converges with it nearby:

macro 1:1 extension tubes question
Posted By baro-nite

A lens needs total extension (including that provided by the focus helicoid) equal to its focal length to achieve 1:1 magnification. Your lens at closest focus already gives you 50mm of extension (hence 1:2 magnification), so adding 50mm gets you to 1:1.

Another beautiful view of the city at night. I like the thematic balance here, with the trees at left holding their own against the buildings along the skyline.

Thanks, I've been happy with it. Mainly bought it for travel and event photography, things I hope to get back to this year.
