Yes, love the Siggy too! But that Sigma is not exactly a bargain price lens, heh... but that DA70 Ltd you have sure is a lot of optical bang for the buck on FF!

Another awesome set Frederic, you just keep delivering!

So the moral of the story here is, if you want to get great results and lots of likes, go buy a used K-1 for half the price of a K3-III, find a 30 year old Soligor 20mm and an early Pentax F 50mm and some extension tubes, and go shoot some awesome pic's that would make anyone proud and many people jealous. LOL!:lol::lol:

;)

Loving this lens on my K1, and now really liking what I'm seeing in this thread and on your K3 III... I just had to find out and looked at your Exif... that is some very clean ISO1600 !

Did you have to do much about noise in post process to the pic? Did it start out as Raw or Jpg?

Just curious, as I'm still on the fence about jumping on this camera or wait on the next K1 III.
Tnx.

I really enjoy you showing what the Soli can do when used like a normal 20mm landscape lens and stopped down to 5.6. People were probably starting to think that all it could do was crazy bubbly bokeh close-ups. ;)

They are surprisingly good and sharp, a very over looked and multi purpose lens. If Pentax copied this element design, added A/F and modern coatings, I'd buy one.

They could call it the Pentax HDFA 20mm F2.8 BOWOW LTD
(Bubbly Only When Open Wide) Woof! :p

Actually, I found the conversation interesting. I am normally a night owl, with a twist, I also get up pretty early for a night owl, and have always been fine on 6 or 7 hrs sleep max, rarely get 8 or more unless I'm going through something special. I used to compete in a hobby... required travel sometimes to other time zones, and to make matters more interesting, getting up at un-Godly hours so as to have time to practice and begin competition at the crack of dawn. The competition was a tiered even through eliminations and lasted over a week. To add to the mix, the sun sets very late in the flat lands, so we could stay out and practice until well after what would normally be dark for my zone. It never bothered me in the least! I'm not bragging, but am trying to add what adrenalin and a strong desire bring to the table. By the end of the competition I would start to feel the effects of not enough down time, but my sleep pattern is undisturbed and it was a good tired because I was mentally happy, doing what I loved. I guess I'm trying to say that mind over matter can overcome a lot of our natural body clock instincts, especially if it is connected to something that really drives us emotionally.

Maybe not to the same physical extent, but I get a similar rush when I get up early to go catch the incoming tide and birds feeding at sunrise, so it can transfer to our photography if it is a momentous enough event I think.

I'm an idiot... As I reread my post and your reply, I did a face-palm when I remembered the crop factor and that 28mm on crop is what I'm used to seeing at 42mm on my K1. DOH! Guess its been a while since my crop days and I now "see" in full frame again like my old film old days, and that's the only excuse I have for such a silly blunder. I'm still quite happy to hear that the K3III is quite usable for such things as detailed landscapes.

VERY nice and thanks for posting, I've been wondering about this kind of detail level on the K3III for landscape and am happy to see this type of shot looking good.

I looked at your Flickr post at it's largest posted size and it's impressive, especially for APSC @ f3.2 @ iso800.

I'm curious, Exif says roughly 28mm was used on your zoom, did you crop that in post? The perspective looks a bit more natural than what I picture 28mm giving.
Either way, nice shot, thanks for posting.

I know how you feel ! I had to put down our 18 yr old Ariel (Yorkie) a couple years ago. Told the missus that is it, we're done, no more dogs, too painful. About 6 months later I caved... and I ended up being the one to surprise HER with a puppy! LOL! Sorry for your loss, I hope a new pup lands in your lap again some day if it's meant to be and circumstances change. Dog's are awesome sources of unconditional love.
Hang in there!

I'm not Rob, and I don't even play him on TV...but when I shoot RAW I still get that junk in my Exif too...

I "think" it's left there because some software can use/apply those camera settings as the intended defaults when you open up the RAW and go to save to jpg, though my Photoshop always opens with my basic zero adjustments by default. It might also be because I have my K1 setup to do RAW + JPG in the other card, so maybe the RAW's get the same Exif as the Jpg because of that. Not sure, and maybe not very helpful, but that's my .02 additional cents.

August should always be Soli month from now on... so awesome.

That F 50 f1.7 is still a force to be reckoned with for macro when used with an extension tube. You are dangerous with that thing. ;)

Nice set as always Frederic!

I'm bumping this just because I like the posters prose so much. LOL!

Just to help further, from what I have read elsewhere, correct me if I'm wrong but this is a 120mm Film camera, which makes it much more desirable than a lot of the USA made 620mm folding camera's of the time where you had to spool off from 620 spools onto 120 spools in a dark bag because 620 film is near impossible to find. (been there done that, still have the dark bag, heh)
