Almost a really good photo. Good lighting, exposure, focus, wing position, even a few drops of water from the feet and a hint of wing reflection in the water... but I missed about one inch of the front of the beak. Oh well - keep trying - maybe next time. I added a static shot from just before he took off.

I'm still learning how to get the most from my 60-250 lens and converter, but these shots of birds on our backyard feeders turned out to my satisfaction.

Taken in the Forbidden City in Beijing. I was intrigued by the contrast of the ethnic costume and the modern cell phone.

I'm playing with converting some of my images to black and white. These two in my opinion look better in B+W than the original color version. A fun exdercise.

A few images from our recent trip to Costa Rica. The sunset is from Manuel Antonio Park, then there is a Green Heron, a Duck-billed Heron, a land crab, and a monkey. Lots of birds and other wildlife to see, and lots of colorful flowers - a good trip to escape the snow of Wisconsin.

A few more from my recent trip to China. These were taken in a tourist area re-creating the old way of life. There was just a bit of sun coming through the fog which gave a nice lighting effect.

I recently was on a 3 week tour of China - I'll share some images as I get them processed.
These 3 are from the Forbidden City in Beijing. The first is the main Tiananmen gate, the second is the Gate of Supreme Harmony inside the grounds, and the third shows some detail on the buildings

Had fun watching this guy in our backyard. He would come out of hiding to process his catch, and then take it back to his lair for later consumption.
The first image was taken with my 100mm 2.8 macro with 1.4 tc, and shows the web pretty well. The second was taken with my 60 - 250, also with a 1.4 tc, and shows him working on a meal.
It was a good use of time to try out both lens combinations - each gave some good images.

Thanks for the nice comments. I think the B-29 I got was Doc - both were to fly together but I was in the museum for the earlier part of the air show so did not see that or the B-25 Doolittle Raid re-enactment. Have not mastered being in 2 places at once. For those who like aircraft, the EAA should be on your bucket list - it was amazing.

We went to see the Blue Angels at the EAA Air Show in Oskosh WI. Here are a few of my better images - overall I was pleased with how the 60-250 performed. The jets move by so fast it was hard for me to track them, and if you really crop in the images get fuzzy, but at full size they look acceptably sharp. Most of these have been cropped just a bit to remove the excess sky.
In addition to the Blue Angels, I'm including one of a B-29, and one of the other air show teams.

I recently added the 1.4 converter to my 60-250 lens - both are pretty new to me so I'm still learning how to get the maximum from them. Here are 3 waterfowl images that I think turned out OK.

I have both the Pentax 50 mm 2.8 and the 100 mm 2.8 macros. The 50 goes for about $350 and the 100 for about $550, but each goes on sale from time to time for about 15% less.

The 100 is weather resistant and for me gives much superior results, so if the cost of the 100 fits your definition of reasonable, that would be my recommendation. I rarely use the 50 since I got the 100, but it is still a lower cost option.

You could also look for used copies, but the 100 in particular is hard to find used - most owners really like it, I guess. I do.
