Neoprene or other slim case?

I know there is a thread for system bag, but I was hoping for a slim, well fitting case such that it's just a bit protected in my pocket, can sit on the shelf and I can grab it as I go out the door. Been partial to neoprene cases lately, I see some for the NEX, but none that look to form fitting... maybe something like a tiny zing?

Anyone else find something out there?

Minolta MD lenses on the Q

Has anyone played with mounting any minolta MD lenses on a Q yet? I see there's a few adapters on ebay, but haven't dug around too much. From days gone by I have some nice MD glass, and recently couldn't pass on a 500mm Takumar and a kiron 105 macro. Both with MD mounts and $40 for the pair! Had been thinking of one day going the 4/3 route, but with a Q in hand...

Thanks for sharing any experiences.

Firmware update reminder

I saw the lens firmware option, but hadn't been aware there were updated issues... Anyway, is there a pentax source that says these should be done in a certain order? I did camera, then lens, seems fine, and it would seem the normal course as folks acquire new lenses. Fun little camera, now have to convince myself to sell the spare body that's coming with the 01 lens ;)

Adam have any write up from the holiday outing I saw pictures of yet?

For all of those in on the recent deals, don't forget to do the firmware update. Over the holidays I let it slide. Did it today, was an easy process, and it made a world of difference for auto-focus in my hands.

I'd like to take a series of shots driving down the road that are geotagged, being able to transfer them on the fly would make life soo much easier. Replace my point and shoot setup with a real camera.

Tak 500mm F4.5 diagram / manual / parts

I thought I read somewhere the other day that adapters were available for m42, K, Minolta and one other... This looks pretty factory. Under the dissecting microscope, it all looks like one piece. Also has the "M" stamped in it. I think the bevel on the step below the minolta tabs (of the bayonet mount) looks like a thread, there are not any outer threads, inner possibly, but that's very narrow.

There was a huge thread back in '09, with some nice pictures of the adapters... guess I'll have to look hard to find one of those...

THis link

ah so close.

Tak 500mm F4.5 diagram / manual / parts

Thanks, yeah if anyone has the diagram for this lens that was floating around the net a few years ago, I'd love a copy.

I'd like to get it to a K mount or screw mount.

here's the Minolta mount - the rear section is a 'mount adapter' or such it unlocks to reveal a filter (52mm in the MD case)

and here it is opened up, you can see one of the three tabs that get locked in place.

I imagine I could just figure the difference between the K & MD focal distance and make a homemade adapter, sort of like this one looks to me( this is from the web, not mine):

Thanks for any help
Rick

Hi

Stumbled on a really nice Tak 500mm smc for coffee change. What a beast.

Didn't realize that it actually had a Minolta mount on it till I got home! Might be easier to purchase a Sony DSLR hang on it, but I'd like to find the rear mount adapter (they came in K and M42). The MD mount must be one rare item! My first call to Pentax didn't get me anywhere...

I saw some older posts (~2007) where someone (Roy Kim???) was actually still able to purchase the mount parts. So if you have a parts diagram etc that could help me I'd be thankful. or Roy's contact info.

Catalog #24740, Takumar SMC 500mm F4.5.

Any other pointers would be appreciated at this point,

Thanks,
Rick

*ist blurry viewfinder repair replacement

I had some water enter my viewfinder/diopter (Oregon) and before it dried, I tried cleaning it too hard resulting in a nice blurry patch in the center of my viewfinder lens. BE WARNED to clean those VERY GENTLY.

Anyway after reading some other posts and courtesy of Owen sending me a replacement viewfinder, it was a rather simple fix. Owen previously posted that he paid $12 for a replacement from Pentax - let me know if anyone orders one and what the part number might be. Here's the original thread with an exploded parts diagram.

The fix: (this was for my spare istDL but imagine others should be similar.
Remove 7 screws - Two under the popup flash, two beside the viewfinder. The outermost one inside the battery compartment, one below the dial on the left side of camera (viewed from back) and one below the neck strap tab on the right.
The screws are of various sizes, keep note of which goes where.

The top of the camera will now lift off, but is still attached by wires and ribbons: see picture below. The view finder assembly is probably removable, but the outermost lens is easily changed without that step. The outer piece of black plastic is held on with double sided tape, pry this cover gently off. (This is already removed in the camera picture, see pic of separate pieces below) Then there are four clips that hold the outermost viewfinder lens in, gently undo those four clips, the old will slid out, pop in the new one, and put it back together.

thanks to Owen..

Rick

ist eyepiece removal and/or cleaning ?

Hi

My go everywhere ist DL was out in a light rain the other day (it was August in Oregon) for a few minutes, and a few drops must have slipped inside the eyepiece. The next day the condensation was very noticeable, and putting it in a sealed box with some silica gel has reduced it, but not completely. Having a big fuzzy spot in the middle of the view finder isn't so great.

So there are two screws on the either side of the eyepiece look like they must be for the top cover. Is there any way to get to the back side of the eyepiece lens?

Thanks.
