I'm going to make the 645 jump, now a lens question...

Thanks for all the discussion here! I think I should hit the FA 120 and maybe the A for anything wider, only the portraits I do would really use the auto (although I do try to manual those too, just to be better at it)

I'm going to get a shiny new 645Z as soon as I can (I live in NZ so will be pretty hard, going to UK later this year so might be cheaper and easier to buy over there).

Anyway, I'm looking at glass and I had a quick search and looked at the lens reviews but I'm having trouble with the A and FA thing, I shoot portraits and staged product/art stuff. Should I be chasing A or FA lenses? There are some good deals around for both and the 75mm and 120mm are going to be the first ones I get.

Just wanted to ask the people here about what the big differences would be and if one is obviously better than the other in terms of A vs FA for overall image quality.

Thanks :)

Hey! I was involved in this photoshoot presented as a story a while back and the director of the work has decided to turn it into a kind of interactive whodunnit type thing.

I shot most of the pics, at the direction of the writer. and had to use the timer for some (as I was a cast member)

Please take the time to read the captions as there is a good story going on and also check out the poll and vote for who you think is the killer!

The death scenes will be released when the counter clicks 100!

Advice on macro lens

I rock the Tammy 90mm and I love it, gotta be my fav lens!!! It only ever comes off the camera when I'm shooting inside (usually abandoned buildings) and need wide angles :)

I've not used the sigma, but looking at the reviews, you'd be fine with either really. Get which ever one feels best on the camera and fits your bag.

Holy crap! Twitch, you are my hero! Turns out I had the lens distortion correction on, switched it off and the burst mode works just as it should :D

Thanks for the tips! And I might take hcc's advice and roll out myself a better card as well for extended bursting action lol

This is why I'm on this site, everyone here is awesome and has good advice no matter what questions you have!
Thanks!!!!

Hey, just wanted to get some quick advice on an issue with my K7.

In burst mode, the camera will shoot only 4 frames before freezing up while it writes the images to the card. I've tried different memory cards and swapping RAW and JPEG, and various other changes I could think of but nothing worked.

It was working fine about a month or so ago. I'm hoping I've just missed some weird setting or something...

I have an extended warranty so I can always do that I guess.

Any advice?

Here's a shot from my first time candid street shooting.

I took heaps but this one was the best (in my opinion anyway)

Some of you might have a better technique than me, but it sure is hard to not look like a creeper lol.

Let me know what you think :)

The blue is from the "Scenic Hotels" sign on the building just behind the town hall. It was the reason I kept so much foreground in the frame, I thought it looked kinda cool :)

SHOOTING IN THE RAIN!!!!!

Yeah I couldn't resist, I saw this on the way home from work and thought it might make for a good photo. So when I got home, I grabbed the camera and told the lady I was going back out in the rain. I'm sure she thinks I'm crazy...

The location is known as Challenge House although Link House is also part of the building (thats the more office looking part).

It's quite a popular spot for Urban Exploration as it's easy to get to and you don't have to "break" anything to get in :) I'm going to hit a few more abandoned places in the next few weeks and might even have access to a few good factory locations as well! Here's hoping.

Here's a couple more pics for your viewing pleasure ;)
Oh in that last pic, if you're wondering if there's a dead bird in the ice tray, you'd be right...

Here are some shots from an urban exploration a few friends and I went on the other day.

The exposures are mostly between 5 and 10 seconds to show some detail of the interior of the abandoned building, otherwise they would be mostly black LOL

Oh, in that last shot, the floor is an inch thick in 25 years worth of bird poo. ewww.

I took hundreds of photos but I can't display all of them here, these are just 4 i liked :)

OK, so I tried another with a little more DOF, I'll do more and get better. I kinda know that they are missing the "dreamy" feeling the should have...

If anyone out there is shooting this style, can you hit me some tips?

WOW!!! These photos are awesome, i mean crazy awesome. This is proof that you don't need to spend massive cash to get this kind of shot.

Now, I consider some of my recent photos to be of high quality but then after coming across this post it looks like I've got some work to do :) I'm not discouraged, now I have more to aspire to!

As for your work, many others have said it and guess what, I'm gonna say it too. Your work is incredible! It's been a long time since I've seen a post with this amount of quality packed in!

I recently won a voucher for some photo gear, more than enough to cover the Tammy Macro you use there. Looks like I know what I'm getting!

Thank you for the feedback!

Magnification is about 4 or 5 to 1, (maybe 6) I forget how many of the tubes I used.

Here are some more shots from the famous tubes.

The last shot is an interesting one, I used a much shallower DOF and got the sharp against blurry combination on. My fav of the day I think!

I'm getting better with this rig now. What do you think?

Yeah, I know the quality is not the greatest on these shots. It's difficult to get a good hand-held shot when there's 24 inches of tubes on the camera though.

I'm going to see if I can get a better setup to stage these shots. I just wanted to throw up some interesting results. At least this way you will be able to see the progress!

Here's a few more from my insane tube setup.
The ISO was wound right up as these were all hand-held shots.

The pixels are from my friend's iPhone

The fingerprint is a good shot, dirty hands tho.

There is also a side on view of where the thumbnail finishes, you can see damage to the surface of the nail where it has peeled up on a few layers!

The last shot (and kinda scary looking) is a super close shot of my friends beard stubble! Man said he had a shave at about 7am and this shot was taken at about 10pm. With the correct lens, tube and time information, you could probably work out his facial hair growth rate in nanometers per hour! LOL
