A pro camera is any camera you do professional (meaning money making) work with. In other words, any camera can be viewed as a pro camera.

Does anyone have any actual experience with separating the elements of a cemented doublet? I have fungus remnants too in a lens that I would like to get rid of.

Have the camera companies, lens makers, and most other photographers given up on understanding that putting full-frame lenses on an APS-C camera DOES NOT change the focal length? The crop factor is NOT a focal length multiplier. It only changes the apparent angle of view of the scene captured. A 300mm lens for example DOES NOT become a 450mm lens but stays a 300mm one. It just captures the view of a 450mm lens but does no actual magnification.

The above is not what I said but what Neostyles said. My exchange with them was : "Originally posted by neostyles
Not really a fair comparison per se but canon/nikon both have much better offerings from a pro standpoint so i can see why he would say that. Pentax's latest offering the k3 cant hold a candle to the D4 or D800.

(from me) All I have to say about that is - bull crap. The K20D through K-3 Mk.II are all professional grade cameras even if Pentax won't say so. I'll put my K-5 up against the latest from Canon or Nikon any day.

Pentax JPEG processing

I've always been of the opinion that every digital camera's contrast and saturation are too high and need to be turned down. When you turn down contrast however, that does take the saturation down some at the same time. I prefer cooler images, as I don't like people in my shots to all look like they have sprayed on tans, and I want the colors to be as natural as possible generally. Therefore, I usually shoot in Natural.

Highlight Correction: ON
Shadow Correction: OFF

Natural (for general purpose shooting & sunny days)
Saturation: +2
Hue: 0
High/low Key Adj.: +1
Contrast: -2
Contrast Highlight Adj.: -4
Contrast Shadow Adj.: 0
Fine Sharpness: +3

Bright (for overcast days)
Saturation: +3
Hue: 0
High/low Key Adj.: +2
Contrast: -2
Contrast Highlight Adj.: -4
Contrast Shadow Adj.: +2
Fine Sharpness: +3

Monochrome/b&w (for general purpose shooting)
Filter Effect: varies
Toning: -1
High/low Key Adj.: +2
Contrast: -2
Contrast Highlight Adj.: 0
Contrast Shadow Adj.: 0
Fine Sharpness: +3

The other categories I have not determined their presets yet. Also, bumping the contrast down some increases the visually -apparent- dynamic range of your shots too.

Bleach bypass and Cross-processing. Why?

The cross processing function just seems to give poorly colored images in my opinion. Bleach bypass however, I think gives better "old camera" looking images than the retro filter does so, I actually have it as part of a custom configuration when I am trying to take 1940's thru '60's looking images.

Hello! Sorry to hear about your E-520. I have one of those and, have enjoyed using it. I am hoping to get an E-M1 in my arsenal so I can keep shooting Olympus as well. As for your K-50, it will be a noticeable improvement over your E-520 in most every way except for the IS function flexibility and maybe custom WB accuracy. You will find the Pentax user interface much, much easier to navigate and use than that of the E-520 and, the Green Button will quickly spoil you. Enjoy your K-50!

I went from a K20D to a K-5 and, the improvement in dynamic range and ISO noise was astounding to me. I do like a few of the external controls on the K20D better and think it is a prettier camera but, the K-5 (and by default the K-3) do provide noticeably superior results.

Sharpening Settings

I think you should experiment with the settings because, having no AA filter does not necessarily make the sharpness the way you want it. Based on the experimenting I have done, the three categories do not produce the same results. For the K-5 I have (and the K20D I once did) I found I like -Fine- Sharpness better than the other two.

What Minolta gear were you shooting with? If it was a Maxxum/Dynax/Alpha body then, you should also be considering a Sony Alpha body as well so you can keep using your lenses.

Take the camera out of "Green mode" and, learn how to use your camera manually so you can force it to take the shots you want correctly.

Why not? Skill counts too. Just because his gear costs more and he is a pro photog does not mean he gets better pictures than you. There are plenty of no-talents out there with good gear and their images suck.

In M mode it obviously does not make a difference. Only when the camera is in P, Av, Tv, or TAv does the viewfinder need blocked.
