My oldest daughter came up with one that became very popular during her teenage years. Instead of 'Oh S&%T' she would shout 'Oh SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS!' It was very effective and still gets used in our family many years later.

I'm a bit late replying but I only just saw this post.

I am totally with you on the blister pack thing Rob! Those devices are designed to be as difficult as possible to open and they will cut you to shreds at any possible opportunity while trying to open them! As an engineer I can appreciate why they are built the way they are but also as an engineer I really hate the way they work and how difficult they can be to get into. Help is at hand however (literally).

I decided to treat myself to some new tools for Xmas and while perusing a website of interest I came across an item that made me do a double or even triple-take as it piqued my interest so much. I was so intrigued that I ordered not one set but two (one for the kitchen and one for my workshop in the basement) and they arrived today (late for Xmas but that's understandable given the amount of post at this time of year and the COVID restrictions slowing things down). This is what I ordered.......... Multi-Cut | WORKSHOP SUPPLY ......... and I must say that I am very impressed with what arrived! They are bigger than I anticipated (8 1/2" (220mm) long) and very well made. The blades are forged from 3/16" (2.5mm) steel which seems to be of good quality and they cut through blister packs like they were made of butter and the angled offset keeps your flesh away from the razor sharp cut edges! The handles are very comfortable thanks to the padded grip (my arthritic hands really like them) and the 3 position sprung-locking system works like a charm. The box cutter blade in the handle is a nice touch but the screwdriver is a bit gimmicky and tiny but it may prove useful for the tiny screws found on those annoying battery case covers on some modern LED flashlights.

I am not affiliated in any way with the product or supplier but I thought I'd let you know there were options to deal with blister packs and so far I am very impressed with what I've cut and I guess time will tell if the product has any longevity but it seems very well made and as it's currently on sale a steal for the price.

Now that made me literally laugh out loud!

It is probably lost on most people here but we must be of a similar age as I knew exactly what you were aiming for with that joke.

Incidentally, I still have the "Bridge of Spies" album in my vinyl collection to this day but play the digital version on my computer more often these days. Great song, great band and a pity they were so under-rated by most people.

This is the basic idea for "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", the hilarious 2nd sequel (there were 5 sequels in total) to the world famous "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by the late, great and much missed Douglas Adams.

It's been more than 20 years since I was last in a hairdressers/barbers. When I became ill with a disabling medical condition and left with just a disability pension I had to make a serious decision. Every month I had to make the same choice, do I spend $20 to $30 (or whatever the going rate is) for a haircut or do I use that money to buy food for my family, I could do one or the other but NOT both! The answer was obvious to me as I no longer had a job to go to so I had no petty restrictions on hair length and we needed to eat! As a result my hair is now just above my belt when not in a ponytail and I get it leveled up across the bottom (and split ends removed) by my wife every couple of years or so.

I remember a slightly different variant to that from when I grew up in England:

"I'm not pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mate
And I'm only plucking pheasants 'cus the pheasant plucker's late!."

There was also:

"Mrs. Fuddywoody had a square cut punt, not a punt cut square but a square cut punt.
Mrs. Fuddywoody had a square cut punt!"

And:

"Mary had a little lamb, she kept it in a bucket
And every time that lamb got out the bull-dog used to ...............
Put it back in again!"

Yeah right!

So how does that work? Does it make decisions on it's own account and can you use it to supplement your brain if you have a brain-fart? Inquiring minds need to know!

'Cus I like Bert's posts and Bert too and didn't want to offend him. It's just the cat strangling I find a bit hard to take. Others in my immediate family might disagree though as both my wife and one of her sisters played in the local pipe band during their high school years (my wife was a snare drummer and my S-i-L was a piper).

The Apple Quicktake 100 was the first digital camera I ever used. A former employer had one and I used the images in the manuals I was writing for them. It was OK and somewhat revolutionary for the time but I preferred using my own Spotmatic II or K1000 and then I scanned the prints to create digital images I could use in the documentation.

I built one like that a few years ago using a wire coat hangar, a 'Slinky' and a few zip ties. It's still going strong and the jays (and squirrels) love it. There is a lot of info on the web on how to build one and it's a simple project.

I remember using PS v1.0 back when I was working in the Arts faculty of a College in England. IIRC it would only run on a Mac toaster version (Macintosh SE/30) at first and in grey scale only. Later on we got a suite of Apple Macintosh II computers which ran in colour (whoo hoo!)
