You were to do both, a good one and bad one.

Sometime way back, in 1970s or 1980s, I took a short photography class (Shooting Film).
One of the exercises that we were given was to choose a subject and photograph to make look as good as possible and, also, as bad as possible.
I chose fire hydrants. ;)

Thank you all for your comments, suggestions and opinions.
It is nice to have a venue to ask a naive question without ridicule.
I have read and contemplated each of your responses, A few items bubble to the top.
I do enjoy the focal range/Field of view provided by the 10-20mm on crop/15-30mm on ff.
While I'm sure the 15-30mm on K1 would have extended capabilities over the K3 and 10-20mm, With my current skills it would be a marginal gain at great cost.
Filtering the 10-20 is easier or at lest less expensive.
The K3 with 10-20mm does have its flaws, But, Until my skill level can press its capabilities stick with what I've got.

Comparison as far as image quality, usability and financially.
Between a Pentax K3 using a Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 as apposed to a K1 using a 15-30 f2.8.
I'm sure this is a very naive question. I have the Pentax K3 with Sigma 10-20 and the Pentax K1.
Would I really gain anything with the Pentax 15-30 on the K1. ?

The Superstition Mountains is one of the photos every Arizona photographer has. Dramatic Mountain front makes for stunning views. This is a nine, six second vertical frame panorama. Arizona Required Photography by Craig Adamson, on Flickr

I use a large strap from a tripod bag, got some rings for the camera from a hardware store ( they are like big key rings). I do have a black rapid strap but with a really heavy setup I don't trust it.

Asking for tripod suggestions opens a whole can of worms. So I won't suggest any, But I will tell you my story.
I started with an 'Old' Velbon tripod with geared center column I found at a second hand store for about $10. Its actually is a pretty good tripod,
but heavy, cumbersome and awkward, I changed the head to a arca-swiss comparable.
When I finally grew tired of fighting with it, I found a older Vanguard Alta Pro 263AP Aluminum Tripod on sale for $80,
Changed out the head for a Benro geared head (Arca-Swiss compatible, Love it) Still use this one quit a lot !.
Then I decided to go full tilt, purchased a Feisol Ct-3472, about $600, and a RRS BH-55 head. the heads great,
the tripod, well, it does the job, its study, stable, light, all the stuff you think a tripod should be. And it gets a lot of use, but, I'm not a fan.
More often than not I'll pull out the Vanguard.
Just my experience.
I will suggest, Like bdery did, what ever you do make sure the head is Arca-Swiss compatible.
Happy Hunting.

It seems the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction is the theme of the day. This is my rendition. A composite. Moon image taken with a cell phone thru a 6" Dobsonian telescope, 25mm eye piece lens. I think that's a Harley Flathead E-Series, with the tank mounted instruments started in 1937, I'm guessing 1937 to 1941, although I don't see that shiftier on the tank.
