With the BigLeeStopper, I'm able to slow a day-lit exposure down to about 30 seconds. Even more when it's in the shade, like 45sec. Here's one I'd like to have constructively criticized.

Go hard or go home. I want your advice!!!

Meant to put this in Nature/ landscape category. Too late now!

Yeah, I love his work. He and Tony Kuyper did a video series I really enjoyed. I didn't have the patience to sit and watch everything. I will make a point to go through and review it again slowly.

Thanks, yeah the left side is super soft. I don't know why. The lens is usually sharp all around but that day it wasn't. Hmmmmmm....

Thanks for all your feedback!

The best results come from the best lenses. After lenses, a good set of ND filters and a polarized filter are next. Take the time to look at filter holders or circular filters. Reference the below image and if you'd like more examples, go to this example page I created.

I'm curious if anyone can, without looking at the comments below, reverse engineer this image with the lighting setup, the general category of lens used, and any accessories I may have used... Give it some thought if you don't know.

Pentax Info: Pentax K5, Sigma 10-20 @10mm f/5.6 (large DOF) iso 400, 1/1500 handheld. I set it to AV and with the exception for only one portion in the sky, the whole DR was retained. I would have liked to shoot at Iso 100 because there was some noise when i post processed.

Post: Lightroom: settings: Highlights to the far left, Shadows 3/4 to the right and a small amount of saturation/ vibrance before importing to photoshop. Also I should mention i used corrective perspective to make the tracks even out vertically.
Photoshop: Using luminosity masks, i brought back highlight and shadow detail even more. I used Luminosity masks to also bring contrast to the tones. Using dodge/ burn I added contrast to the outcroppings on the horizon. A little bit of warmth and coolness to various parts was added to bring more depth/ contrast.

Nothing beats a hotspring in the Winter

This image is the centerpiece of my trip to Northern Idaho where a gal pal and I explored hotsprings on a 3-day trip in the snow. It was beautiful to be immersed in deep forests and find these splendid displays of rock pouring forth hot water amongst pillows of white snow. I used a compositing technique, a Lee Big Stopper, and Luminocity Masks from Tony Kuiper. Im working on a project to document these beautiful water features. Link here

Hey Pentatians! AKA, my favorite group on the internet!

I will start this thread with the intent to share my workflow and talk about how I incorporate Pentax into my Adventure Photography workflow! I created this thread (LINK) a while ago and it gained some traction, so I thought I would start another regarding my other favorable genre, Adventure Photography! This thread will be light and fun but I encourage feedback or questions!

As a first post, I'll share three of my most favorite images I've ever captured outdoors.

This image is one of my favorites because the process of getting the photo was such a peaceful time. I woke up early in the morning in City of Rocks and just had time to meditate and think while taking photos. Beautiful time! The Pentax k5 + 60-250mm @ 135mm on a tripod. Iso100, 1/2, f/8.

This shot is special because I had never been 4x4ing before. It was a beautiful sunrise and the fog was just glistening through the trees. It was one of my favorite adventure too! Pentax k5 +31 Ltd

This photo is special too because it was my first time kayaking in the winter (technically Fall). But this adventure opened my eyes to the beauty that winter (again, technically Fall) has near the water that you can't see from land. Pentax K5 + 60-250. i'll be honest... Lots of editing in Photoshop to get what I saw and the colors accurate.

Nice. I like the subject. Centered would be really cool I think. Especially with that background, wow that's a gorgeous forest. Maybe work on bringing up the contrast. Nice eye!

I'm so grateful I was able to go on a trip in the Sawtooths. This national forest is home to the 10,000+ peak, Mt. Heyburn (our main destination). We hiked to Bench Lake, where we camped and turned around due to heavy snowpack. But the stream that the trail parallels is absolutely gorgeous. Letting light fall through the top canopy like a painting. This is by far, my most serene photograph :)

Most recent shoot (one photo is not mine, but was from the previous photographer. The client only wanted certain photos in the house. I tried my hardest to get what she wanted. I was not happy with some of the results however. The house was too small to get tighter shots. Good house though, it held residents who were remodelers and took great care of it. You don't care about that though, here are the photos. link

Would love to have feedback on how I could improve this shot.

Pentax gear has been great with supplying a cost effective option to capture real estate images. I had an adventure getting to where I am now and I thought I would reach out to anyone else wanting to maybe jump into the same field of real estate photography. So to anyone who wants advice, I'd like to help in any way I can. No HDR, just flash and hand blended multiple exposures.

Hey fellow Pentaxians! I posted this photo a while back and loved the critique. My point in posting this new edit is to help everyone and myself in finding out new techniques in Photoshop or post production. Last time we talked about composition, but this time I'd like to get your focused opinions on post processing.
Thanks for your input in advance!

Landscape Foggy Beach Sunset Critique

Hey everyone, this past week I spent in my home state of OREGON. I have a beach house and every year I go to acquire solitude there. This year I brought my K5 along and the Da 14mm 2.8 for what I found out to be a bit of a foggy couple days; I did get a sunset and sunrise however. Here's a shot that I think is pretty dang awesome. I'd like to know what I could improve upon in either composition, post processing, crop, etc. This was done with the Lee Big Stopper ($140 OUCH) and k5 w 14mm. Photoshop for the editing. F/16 iso 100 and I think 8 minute exposure. This was a single Image solely created with the dynamic range of the k5's sensor.

Looking forward to your constructive critiques!

Yes, please visit. It's a great beach. Thanks for your advice.

ah, getting into a very controversial subject. I'm always up for hearing the other side but in the end, I always pick the side that makes more sense for me. I like that you are a realist and enjoy less editing. The reason this is contravercial is because when I ask photographers, "what is a natural photo" I get varried results. "in Camera JPG" "In camera Raw with light contrast" "Raw with luminosity masks", "Raw image with a completely different sunset". I do love that there are so many styles and ways to think about a photo. I very much respect the "in Camera JPG"ers as well as the other end of the spectrum. So thank you for your critique. I like how you rely on "mother Nature" for your colors. Thanks again for your review of the image. :)

Hey, That is much more simple. It looks like a completely new image! While on this subject, I am with you, I should have maybe shot to the right or left with my 40mm xs 2.8. However this exposure took up too much time. Thank you for your crop and advice!

Thanks for mentioning your opinion.

True. Thanks for pointing that out.

I did the same thing. I wasn't crazy about either left or right with this sunset, but in other conditions It might be different. Thanks again for your review
