i rarely use my mx for photos. I'm hooked to the iq coming from a dslr.
But this link shows where my mx comes in handy... really like it for something like this

Da* 300mm f4 or 55-300 PLM with 1.4x teleconverter

this, i guess..

the da300 (combined or not with tc) is a very different experience from 55 300. It's simply a different league.
both can be used aside the other. if you can afford it, it is a highly recommended lens.. real pleasure both in use and IQ

I wonder what happens when you let it laying around.
Maybe a further decay. Maybe interesting photo series..

for what it's worth, i absolutely love the field of view of my fa31 1.8 on apsc.
I always thought a bit wider would be even nicer. Such as 24mm 1.4... yes
I wouldn't go 16 in your case since you have the da 16-45... still a great lens

can't comment specific on the samyang IQ.

I used to have the 16 45. nice lens. Sharp but a bit flat, dull rendering.
I now have the da 17 70 as allround lens. I do like it much more, for what it is(!): an allround lens with a very nice rendering to the images and a more useful focal range.

For portraits, a fixed focal with large aperture is worth the investment.

nice result indeed at this focal/shutter combi.

What about battery life?
Your photo experience with the batteries will translate to the video experience..
Things i heard & read about the xh1 are not so favorable (?)
tnx

cool, i have handled a z6 a couple of times but only the xt3. z6 felt nice indeed. For me it would be the better camera i guess as it seems nice to use those old lenses at their intended focal. but it is also twice the price of a xh1 right now.. although buying them with one good lens (kitlens for z6 & new 16-80 for fuji) will bring them closer.
I have the feeling though if i'd want to sell the z6 later on, it might be easier to do so.

not sure if you filmed with them:
did i understand from the net correctly that the xh1 does not have zebra's?
how do you feel about the ibis on both cameras? Is there one that sticks out..

maybe i should change the title to experience with a fuji xh1 and pentax mf lenses.
Seems like a nice cam for use with them and for video with the ibis. Only not FF as the z6. But also reflected in its current price.

still on the fence here.

I went to check the z6 out again.
together with the sony a7III and also took a look at the fuji xh1.

All offering ibis, proper video and taking my M lenses, light for travel, with the exception of the fuji xh1 not being FF.
I was surprised by the sony (of which i initially rejected the idea..not sure why the bias). Felt it was a svelte package. Moreover sony has a 24-105 f4 in store which is kind of attractive as a one AF lens solution. Albeit a bit frontheavy and expensive.

The z6 seemingly offering a larger, clearer evf and a switch from photo to video retaining settings for each. small details can make the difference in use.

I really don't see an updated FF from pentax around the corner that is more video-oriented and certainly not this compact. not in near future.

the thing that holds me back, is that it's quite a large investment in another system as my main.
The fact that i can pay it does not really matter that much in that equation.
choice can be a blessing and a curse :-)

just saying...

I understand. Guess it's indeed always a personal decision what matters and what not.
I can imagine these are issues for certain users.
One strength vs d850 is that it does take my pentax m lenses ;-)

well, in light of recent developments, i'll wait a bit before spending money :-)

I'm also interested on what lens this is.
Especially pic from the sky, but think it's all the same lens.
lovely rendering.

I understand the pentax m lenses don't fit on the D8xx?
that is my main reason to go z6, to use my m lenses on a full frame cam both for photo and for video, (the latter being the reason i would choose another brand over pentax since it is manual focus anyhow with my m lenses.. )
with the other option of a combo of apsc mirrorless for video and a 2ndhand K1..

But aside from that, i am interested on why you'd prefer a d850 as a camera? shortcomings on z6 vs a proven FF dslr?

yes, its expensive.
unfortunately there is no former z6 series that i can buy 2nd hand. panasonic is too large and beats the purpose a bit for me and i (no idea why) have a bias towards the sony A7series (and canon products-;). I don't think there are any other FF options.
well, Leica S1 also i guess -;)
I know i do like nikon interface and ergonomics.

Mirrorless or not does not really matter to me.
the Z6 just happens to be a nice combo for FF manual lenses and video.
i see some advantages in mirrorless like smaller size and maybe peaking in the evf. but for sure there will be disadvantages as well. I saw there is a thread on that.
quite interesting..

realize that going from K5-K01 series to K3, they did work on the video package, despite saying they don't care. like you say; technology evolves..

Looking at reviews from z6, it doesn't seem much of a problem indeed. the Evf makes up apparently.
I found the evf of a z6 actually huge.

Vs Ovf the peaking function visible in the evf also seems like an advantage to me. Peaking in the evf vs the focus confirmation red dot in my k3 might work better with m lenses. With the red dot confirmation you might still miss and focus on a leaf behind a person face e.g..

As far as i know there seems to be some sort of focus confirmation also with the frame turning green when the desired focus point is in focus.

so far for photography, where i'd still prefer a k1 for FF use of my lenses ;-) but it's good to know that it would work fine.
But it is the video side of things that draws me to a z6. I can't buy both..

yep, nice line up.
Probably i should take a look at sony or panasonic also, but the z6 offer is very solid.

this is what is holding me back a bit.
One option is to get an apsc +- video oriented camera (much cheaper than a FF) but then i'd miss the FF experience (for photography) and overall native use of my m lenses.

Or i can still wait a bit. I am in no hurry, as i can borrow a black magic from a friend. But it would be nice to have something of my own.
One never knows what pentax comes up with.. ;-)

thanks for the elaborate explanation Steve.
So if i understand correctly the below quote is basically the consequence.

that is probably why i find the use of my m lenses so easy on my k3.
But i was never aware...

Yes, i am aware that the two AF lenses i have that are fit for FF are very nice ones. with the da70 probably being an awesome portrait lens.. and i just remembered i have a f24 50 in the back of my cabinet that never gets used :-)
they would not get sold as i do plan to keep shooting pentax.
the z6 just appeals as a great FF platform & video solution in one package.
Your remark makes me think that with the budget for a nikon z6, i may also buy a k1 used and a cheaper video solution like a fuji x30 or so..
hm
nevertheless when i held the z6 and the 24 70 lens, believe me, it is a very nice smaller lightweight thing. Feel pentax is a bit behind here imo.

Changing aperture of M lenses on pentax dslrs require pushing the green button... assume something similar on nikon z6.
I am not sure what steve meant with the below "automatic actuation".

I did try out the z6 in shop when i was there:

regarding ovf vs evf, i can understand the comments on that. Personally i don't feel it would hold me back for the intended usage. the evf was hugely clear though.

The seller said the only way to get focus confirmation was with focus peaking. Which worked quite fine to be honest, both in photo mode and video mode. Also in evf. I'll check out on the internet whether there cannot be a beep and red dot confirmation like with a pentax.. i like that..

and i was quite charmed by size and weight of the combo z6 & 24 70 f4 vs my k3 & 17 70, which is my main travel combo (and for travel video clips i need to carry sthing else as well..)
but i am quite into pentax dna & realize that the grass is always greener on the other side :-)

as per title.

I could get a K1, currently using a k3, but since I only have one AF real FF lens (fa31), i don't really see the clear advantage of a K1 over something like a z6. I do have a da70 as well which i read to be fine on the K1.

But looking for a platform for my collection of m lenses, I can really appreciate the slightly smaller footprint of the Z6 and its video capabilities.

But not too sure about the handling part.
I know how a K1 will interact with those lenses since i do it with the K3 & absolutely love it. But i don't know how similar or not a Z6 will be.

any comment welcome..

Sigma Art 30 vs K1

if it is the 30mm art, then the size and weight argument don't make sense to me. keep in mind the K1 is also bigger and heavier than KP.
the giving K and M lenses a "home" does make sense to me, especially if you like those lenses and like MF.
I do wonder why you don't use the 30mm 1.4 as a standard versatile lens? (retorical question..) Looks perfect to me on apsc
