Workflow for Scanning, tips for VueScan, Epson V500.. guhhh

after a few weeks of messing around, I am getting marginally acceptible, but fast scans using the EpsonScan software. The problem now seems to be that the film is curled and is not sharp across the scanned image.

I saw somewhere that there was a platen you could buy that sandwiches the film between 2 height adjustable plates..
or did I dream that..

anyway, the battle rages on..

I also found out that our local film and video co-op has an old commercial scanner available to it's members.. sooooo.. I'll be trying that shortly as well.

I installed the epson software and then bought VueScan on the advice of a friend. I'm going to go back to the Epson software here and see if that helps streamline..
I'm determined to make this work one way or the other.. even if it means trying "scanning" with the DSLR. Need to find a way to do this efficiently.

So I've been developing my film now for the last couple weeks and it is going pretty well. Using mostly B&W Delta film stock with DDX and it's all turned out thus far..
Then I got an Epson V500 and a copy of VueScan and then things went south.. kinda..

The workflow to scan a batch of negs is torturously slow. The batch function in VueScan is enragingly non-intuitive. (I can't figure out how to deselect frames so they don't scan..?. VueScan is not well documented, the users guide is hopeless). I'm now just considering going back to paying for lab scans as 4 hours of scanning each night is not going to cut it.
And that's just the scanning, and doesn't include tweaking in Lightroom / PS.

so..

Anyone using VueScan with or without an Epson V500. Curious to hear how some people handle the workflow. I'm almost exclusively scanning b&w negs.
I've read the batch scanning tips linked on the VueScan site, which help.

yeah, that's a valid one. I do things with my film bodies I'd never do with the digital because I've never paid more than $50 for any of them. That will probably change if I jump over to MF and actually spend some real $ on lenses.

elta 3200. Pentax Super A w/ 20mm. Nanton Alberta, the space between grain elevators.
I'm still not developing my own film but I just joined a printmaking society here in Edmo that has a pretty nice darkroom set-up. sooooo... soon.

This hill overlooking the dilapidated Walterdale power plant was completely removed about a week after this shot. For years I drove by there and thought "I should hike up there and shoot from the top of that hill". I did finally and then a week later it was gone... Glad I got off my ass.

This second one is manipulated slightly in Lightroom. Weekend at dodge and burnies, fake vignette, plus a weird colour cast I did not intend (must not have kept it in the greyscale mode)

All my reasons have been touched on..

I have tried to take photos (or not take as the case often is) with my digital the same way I shoot with my film cameras and I can't do it.
I have tried to trick myself into "making every shot count" on the digital (GH3) but I inevitably get into digital brain mode and fire off hundreds of frames, tweaking and peaking the whole way. With film I am frugal with my pictures and make sure everything looks good before I snap the shutter. I just can't force myself to do that with the digital.

Doubts on 67 or 645

I've been thinking of grabbing an MF camera as well. I'm in the same boat here, vacillating between P645n and P67. Can't make up my miiiiind.
Then I got going on the whole mamiya 6/7 systems and Universal Press cameras and got nicely confused. There are a few of these bodies available locally from an old camera store guy on kijiji... I also mostly shoot street and off-the-cuff stuff for fun so I'm sort of leaning towards P645n and a nice widey like the 35mm.

The wood handle for the 6x7 and look of the Universal press camera really does it for me.
Around and around we gooooo, trying to burn off some of this GAS

Hey Vendee, some really nice haloing in this pic and the roofline of the stone cottage. How are you acheiving that? is that done after the fact digitally or part of the print?

Sooooo... I have picked up a few more Pentax bodies including an ME, ME Super, Black Super A

I have a few winders for the ME / Super Program. I want to mount a camera way up above a stage pointed directly down. I was thinking I could use a long cable release but it doesn't activate the winder.. is there any solution for this that anyone can think of. ?
Sort of has to be a K mountable body as pretty much all my lenses are K's now.. (I have lumix gear that can handle all of this easily but I want to do this with film dammmit)

Maybe a get a PZ-1 or something er other with a built in winder?? was hoping not to buy another POS film body just for this one purpose.. hmmm.. is the ME winder mod-able?

Thanks guys..

Who is Eric?
I've seen his name mentioned in regards to CLA services but I'm not sure who/where he is and how I'd contact him..
if it's not a ridiculous amount I'd probably be game to send this body in, I'm oddly attached to it.

Bummer!: Super Program meter / LCD issue?

I've been using my dad's old super program for 20 years now without a problem. Recently the meter or LCD readout is acting oddly and now not metering properly it would seem.

The half-press no longer shows the metering info in the LCD windows. I can see the meter readings if I press the LCD backlight button so the meter and LCDs are actually working. I can see the meter info when I release the shutter as well. Seems to be a contact issue with the button. I have changed the batteries recently as well just in case this was a battery issue.

Not sure what to do. Is there anything I can try myself here.
I have other bodies now that I can use but this particular super program is dear to me.

I've never sent a camera in for a CLA and it seems not worth it financially to dump money into a Super Program..

now that I've got the GH3 I'm going to order one of those K>M43 adapters. I've got the reverse thread adapter already for reversy macro action on my Super Program.
very crisp shot and a great lil article there.

whoooooaaa..
uh.. no..

I meant 'locally' when I posted 'here'..

Don's Photo, smaller somewhat awesome chain of camera stores in Canada, is having a sale on GH3's for $999 for all of february..
Sorry.. I don't know if posting that plug violates forum taste laws or not.. It was by far the best price I've found yet on a GH3.
the other big chainey store actually price matched that since the local Don's had units back ordered (I guess they are selling lots of 'em)

I'm not affiliated in any way with Don's.. just a guy pumped to get a sweet new cam!!!!
