Mike - I couldn't (and still can't) see any "weird spot" in the right upper corner. More to the point, whatever you did to try to get rid of this "weird spot" has taken the edge of the sharpness of the original pic, and, in my opinion, done something to the colours.

I think your original pic was good, the colours had punch, edges were clear and sharp, the image as a whole was appealing, and had impact. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!

Nice shot! But googling "small brown bird red breast red cap usa" got me some close likenesses, but no definite ID.

I second Bladerunner6's comments: this is a very cleverly composed image, and well executed.

Landscape HDR, Pixel Shift or Single Image?

Well, just to spoil the consensus;);), I prefer No 1: it looks sharper, and the exposure seems more spot on. All the edges seem better defined, especially the vertical edges (verandah columns, stair banisters, etc)
No 2 looks a little "fuzzy" on the edges, and appears a little over-exposed (or under-saturated?).
That said, No 1 and No 3 are pretty close.

Your experiment may have been more interesting if you had withheld the identification of the 3 modes until everyone had expressed their opinion??

I have just had my attention drawn to the fact that this thread is quite "old" by the system. Am puzzled as to how I stumbled across it now!!!

Hope some of you like this one? It is already well cropped. I experimented with cropping it more, to get more detail out of the butterfly, at the expense of cutting out most of the flower, but then went back to include the full flower.

Nature Pied Butcher Bird

Thanks for that.

They do look very similar. I think the Magpie is a tad larger than the Pied Butcher Bird, and its front is all black from throat to legs, whereas this bird's front is all white just below its throat.
See:
Hanging out with Big Bro - PentaxForums.com
The bird on the left is a magpie, the one on the right is known variously as a magpie lark, a peewee, a peewit or mudlark!!

Also, the Magpie does not have such a pronounced hook on the end of its beak as does the Butcher Bird.

Tony, as you say - that is one AWESOME looking orchid! Incredibly rich deep reds, wonderful patterns. I love how the centre is the opposite of the main flower, where the red is secondary to the yellow.
And you have presented all this to us in an admirable fashion, as usual.

A wonderful little collection of water birds! And, - er, yes, wonderful shots of a muskrat!
Loved how you caught the water droplets as the Yellowlegs brought it head up out of the water. The head-on shot of the muskrat (again, great with the water droplets!!) is gorgeous. It almost seems to be saying "Hey, who the hell are you?"
Beautiful images.

I also cannot see any photos and would love to. Tawny frogmouths and owls are among my favourite birds.

@AstroDave and @BarryE, you made comments without commenting one way or another on whether you could see the pics or not?
