Lets see Bridges

Cool, I went there a few years ago. I spent the night in Twin Falls, and got some pictures of the bridge in the morning before heading out.

I read that Evel Knievel tried to jump the canyon here in 1974 on a steam rocket. His parachute deployed too early, and the wind blew him right back to the same side he started on, only feet from the edge of the river. His safety harness got stuck, too, so he likely would have drowned if the rocket had landed in the water.

People are crazy.

Best not to ignore this one, along Colorado SR-139.

I switched back to the SMC 55/1.8 this morning. Luke doesn't care what lens I use, as long as I pet him after.

Acura's modern take on the long-and-low two-seater formula, though its extreme width makes it seem shorter than it really is. It has an electric motor sandwiched between the twin-turbo V6 and 9-speed dual-clutch transmission, for extra torque off the line.

Now, let's see something slow, however you choose to interpret it.

"Flagship" Pentax APS-C body - available NOW...

It's kind of shocking how little older digital bodies sell for. I still have my K-5 iis, which still has more than enough resolution, excellent low-light performance, a rugged, comfortable body, and it can shoot 7 frames per second. It's only a small step below the current flagship, really. All that, and they sell for a whopping $300 on eBay, or closer to $200 if you're patient.

For my next vacation / road trip, I'm planning on taking the K-5iis out of the closet, putting my FA31 on it, plus a FA77 in the bag, and that's it. I haven't used it in a few years, so it'll be like a new camera all over again. It's still a great camera, I don't have to spend a thing... and I don't have to wait for "the next big thing." ;)

I see the 645D can be had for around $2k now. 40mp medium format CCD, for $2k...

Most of my fog pictures were taken far from here, but it does happen in Phoenix extremely rarely. On a Sunday in February of 2015 (when the Super Bowl was here), there was a dense fog that lasted most of the day. This was at the dog park in the morning.

Stay with fog for now.

One during a dust storm last year. We haven't had one yet this year. It's been a really boring monsoon season so far.

Let's have an image of fog, which is often gloomy, but not necessarily.

I bought one of the 24mm's in 2014, but only used it briefly before putting it on the shelf. The rendering never really pleased me. Dave described it really well. It's technically just fine, but it's too clinical for my taste. Of course it can take great pictures, but it just shoots what you point it at without adding any special character. I know many people prefer lenses that way (one person's "character" is another person's "flaw"), but not me. It's the reason why I don't use modern lenses, which tend to be technically excellent, but artistically dull.

This was my favorite picture I took in the brief time I used the lens, of my cool uncle driving us through the desert in his jeep.

My copy also has a loose front element. It doesn't seem to affect the pictures, but the glass front element wobbles if you hit it with a blower. I can't figure out why. Everything is tight, as far as I can tell, and the lens shows no sign of ever being disassembled, but it's like there's a shim missing somewhere. Anyone else have that issue?

Thanks! I've taken shots like it at car shows, so I thought it would be funny to get the same angle on cars in, shall we say, less than showroom condition.

It was a junkyard out in the middle of nowhere, so the cars were all older than the ones at the yards in the city. It was like a museum where you could climb around in the exhibits.

This is my grocery-getter:

Keep transporting!

---------- Post added 09-02-19 at 01:50 PM ----------

I think it has more to do with the size: Americans don't like small cars, and you can buy a Mercedes cargo van, the Sprinter, in the U.S..

You can buy an A-class here now, but only the sedan. Because Americans won't buy hatchbacks, either, unless they're on stilts (i.e. "crossovers").

You'll get no complaints from me. I get a kick out of seeing her enjoy the mud, and so does everyone else at the park (especially since it's not their dog :D).

Boats have three dimensions: length, width, and debt.

Another mode of transport without those round things Allen doesn't like. :p

Somebody's ready for more transport, so keep on truckin', or hoofin' it, or whatever floats your boat.

Both true, or a dunk in the canal. But there weren't any running sprinklers nearby, and the half of the park with a hose is closed for maintenance, so it was into the bathtub when we got home. We walk to the park, so at least the car was safe.

It's good to see this thread going again. Bikes and cameras are two hobbies that fit together nicely.

There's something you don't see every day! I wonder where one buys replacement tires and tubes for penny farthings?

This is my '88 Basso, which a relative gave to me before I was quite big enough to ride it. I've put many thousands of miles on it since then, even though it's actually a little small for me now.
