Poll: For those who use a 16MP Pentax as your primary camera - upgrade in 2016?

I am very happy with my K-30 - with Ltd primes I can do just about anything I need to. Longer term, I guess the FF beckons, but I don't need it just yet, nor can I afford one. While I'm saving, I am going back to film for a self-imposed lesson in composition, patience and exposure. My trusty P30n is loaded with HP5 and ready to go.

When I got my third Amigo, I knew I was done. Despite all the older lenses I've bought over the last three years (my eBay habit got real bad) I've found I use only the 3 Amigos, a 135 M, and the DFA 100 macro WR. I might even sell some......

thank you. The GR is a fabulous camera. For some time after I bought it I remained unsure about it - I think the fixed lens scared me a little! But the more I've used it the more amazed I've been with the results. The crisp detail is wonderful.

A heavily-cropped shot of a dew-drenched spider-web. This is a tiny element of the original. The clarity of the GR never ceases to amaze me.

Sigma Announces 20mm F1.4 "Art" Lens

Well, unless you're prepared to put up with an adaptor, we do require K-mount before we can permit it to join our Pentax cameras.

I can see the purpose of telling us it's been released, even if only to stoke the resentment that Sigma clearly see no economic sense in releasing this for Pentax just now. But no-one has trialled it, and certainly no-one has any idea how it might work with an adapter.

Perhaps we just go on hoping that Pentax are developing their own 'Art' style range to complement the FF. Probably working with Leica. Ahem.

P30N, paired with the 43mm Ltd. it may not look real cool, and the risk of cracking plastic in the desert island heat is high, but it's never let me down, great for quick street shots, and does some of the work if you need it to.

The lens I'm saving for is the FA 31mm Ltd. The last of the three amigos, and the only lens I am allowing myself to buy. Within six months. Nothing else. Definitely. Oh, but there is the DA*300 that has just appeared second-hand in the local camera shop.......

Once he'd said 'well, we shoot with what we can', I suspect I might have replied 'that's very true. But you've still managed to get some good snaps. Well done.'

Voigtlander APO-LANTHER 90mm - Your thoughts

Many thanks to all who replied. Somehow, it's a miracle, but your thoughtful comments appear to have cured my LBA (for now, at least). Too expensive, and probably too close to existing 77mm and 100mm. Money stays in the bank for now.

Voigtlander APO-LANTHER 90mm - Your thoughts

I've the opportunity to pick up a brand new, unused K-Mount Voigtlander 90mm APO-LANTHER f/3.5 SLII. I have the NOKTON 58mm and love the rendering, resolution and the feel of the focus ring.

Problem is, it's priced around GBP650, which is a lot of money (and would put the K-3II back to the end of next year).

I have the Pentax DFA 100mm Macro WR, and the Pentax FA77mm Ltd, but nothing inbetween. I'm sorely tempted to go for the Voigtlander too, but unsure if this is either a good price, or whether I will really get the use of of it it deserves. I would see the 90mm as a telephoto for portraits, rather than macro, allowing a little more distance from the subject than even the 77mm.

However, I would really welcome thoughts of anyone who owns, or who as owned, all three (or two) of these.

At last, the sun shines down on the UK. And the 15mm shows me that people are lot smaller than cathedrals. And cathedrals are a lot, lot smaller than the sky.

K-3 II Pricing

Haven't noticed this comment elsewhere, but feel free to delete me if I'm duplicating! However, here in the UK, the pre-order price for the K-3II (body only) is exactly the same price as the K-3. Unless I wanted a flash, what reason could there be for buying a K-3? Genuine question.

To try and get back to the starting point of this thread........it just seems a VERY expensive approach if you are looking to produce that kind of effect. The 07 Mount Shield Lens for the Q does a very similar job for a lot less. The suggestion around a smeared UV filter sounds worth a try too. And I question that the effort involved in doing this in Photoshop is really that hard. How tricky would it be to produce a Mount Shield Lens for a K Mount?

A some of you will know, I've been trying to make my use of the Q a little more spontaneous, and more than just a lower-quality DSLR. This weekend's fun has been around the 07 Mount Shield Lens. I picked one up, new, for around 30 - about $42 - and just started taking plenty of pictures.

It's certainly Quirky and uniQue, but I think it's growing on me. I've not seen much mention of it on here. Does anyone else use this?

I bow to your knowledge on how these things work (I am very new to this). Is there no-way a APS-C sensor could be put into a Q-type body (as it is in the similar-sized GR) and still use the Q-mount for lenses? I only hope as I love the Q-S1, but really wish I could get the quality and crop that the GR allows. Drat the technical realities getting in the way of my dreams!

This is a fantastic forum. Always someone willing to answer a question, or pose an opinion. And just reading other threads gives so much information. I admit I'm still lost when it goes into pages and pages of charts that all look the same, but I'm getting there. I came to Pentax from Nikon (where Nikonites was also a great and friendly forum) and my steps through the K-30, new lenses, old lenses, Q and everything else has been such a productive and creative time. It wouldn't have happened without PF.

I have both Q-S1 and GR. I'm not technically minded, so cannot explain why, but the GR screen always seems fine to use no matter what the weather (although, I admit, UK sun is rarely the brightest!). The Q isn't always to easy to see. Two very different cameras, but I find the GR perfect, even without VF.
