Upgraded to AFFINITY PHOTO Version 2?

I was able to purchase V2 yesterday when using a different card. (Knee jerk reaction - do not use a debit card as the payment system used by Serif does not understand debit cards)

I never did hear back from Serif about my earlier attempts (all of which have case numbers). I did receive several ads from Adobe pushing their photographer's subscription - but only after I had complained on the Affinity Photo user forums. (Adobe monitoring Serif for issues?)

I have not installed the newer version, but I have the download and key. I also watched the pre-announcement videos and noticed the UI changes.

If you check the Affinity Photo User Forum, you will see multiple threads about issues with payment/license issues. Very little response from Serif other than "we are busy" and one link that lays blame for not accepting payments on the individuals bank systems or not using the latest browser version.

Pretty lame experience all in all. I will wait to install it.

By the way - on Windows the download mechanism (defaulting to using MS loader msix) will by default load to your C: drive. Microsoft thinks everyone is using a laptop with a single drive. Lame, lame, lame.

Please re-read my earlier post. #7

I did contact my bank. They said that the issue is on Serif and their handling of credit cards. My Bank put the purchase on my account and was waiting for Serif's payment system to accept the transaction.

There is a thread on Serif's Affinity Photo forums that tracks this issue. I am not the only one who has this issue. The only response from Serif is the auto response bot saying "we are busy".

Since the transaction(s) have been idle for more than a week, my bank has removed them from the account.

Serif has extended the low entry price for Affinity Photo until the 14th. I might wait until the 13th to see if their payment process is working.

I received an email from Serif stating that they have extended the low update period. I decided to check their user forum and lo-and-behold I am not the only one.
Evidently there is up to a 10-day delay in Serif accepting credit card payments - on some cards. Go figure, I have not heard anything from them on my three attempts to buy the software.

To add to the issue, I received an ad from Adobe today advertising their photography plan with the catch line:

Upgrade to the latest version in hours - not days or weeks.

I wonder if Adobe has been following the "Adobe Alternative" having issues with update payments. Adobe is faster - at least faster than 10 days.

I tried to upgrade but for some reason Affinity will not accept my credit card. It is the same card I used to upgrade to CO v23 last month and the same card I used to purchase Affinity Photo in the first place.

I get an instant response from Affinity stating that the transaction is declined. I talked to the bank and they say the transaction is in "pending" mode waiting for Affinity to do well ----- something.

I have sent of three emails to Affinity including their accounts address. Same answer each time - automatic near instantaneous response:
"As a result of the V2 Launch, we are receiving an exceptional amount of emails and tickets. There will be an extended delay in responding to you. Please see the following link for an FAQ specific to Affinity 2.0; these questions should hopefully answer your questions."

I hate getting bot answers and no additional response. It has been almost two weeks. I will wait until I hear from them - if I don't, I will not upgrade.
In the past (last year and several places here) I have suggested that "for my needs" Affinity is a good supplement to CO for those things that CO does not do. (Putting Text in an image, a different more adaptable set of stitching tools and photo stacking).

Now, if they don't want my money, maybe they should just come out and say that some credit cards/banks are not accepted.

I stated the above out on DPR and got a snarky comment from the Affinity Photo talking head. Nothing more.

I was looking for the original release dates for the Limited's. So far, no real luck.
I am not concerned about coatings or whether they work. I would like to know when the Limited Series lenses were first introduced. The 60's, 70's or later?

In the later years - the 16-50mm and the 50-135mm * lenses are also Weather Sealed. That is why I bought them. The LTD lenses are not sealed and are designs from the 70's.

I can't really find a definitive date for the Limited Series of Lenses.

Oh Carp! Here we go again... K7 is banding now...

To answer a few issues.
First and second K7 image ISO 400, 1/4000, f/16
K20D image ISO 200, 1/180, f/6.8

My question - why use ISO 400 at 1/4000 of a second when you could have used a lower ISO on the K-7 shot and ISO 200 on a really dark shot on the K20D?
Why take the images into photoshop and push the exposure/contrast to find banding? Seems a bit of overreach to me. I am not in the least surprised that the only way banding is detected is through pushing the sliders way too much.

If you take any image from any digital camera and boost exposure and contrast to high limits, you will get what you call "banding". This sensor, I have a K20D, does have DR issues and it prone to noise when pushed in post processing. I shot many images during concerts and events in difficult lighting situations. You learn to live or accept the limitations of the device but understanding the behavior of the device is very important.

Rule of thumb:
Use the minimum ISO for the situation, ISO 400 and a shutter speed of 1/4000 is a clue. ISO 400 is way too high for the situation. As for the K20D image shown, that is where you need to push the ISO and drop the shutter speed to compensate. You need to be careful when raising the shadows on the K20D as it does increase noise.

Used to work in the map function of in Lightroom - I have 6.14 which does not work anymore since Google broke their own interface.
Exiftoolgui - works sort of.
Geosetter - works if you choose open maps - sort of.

Airport:Extra DSLR battery ok in carry on?

I returned from a trip to Norway, London and Amsterdam a few weeks ago. I went through four airport security five (5) times and had zero issues with traveling with four (4) batteries for my K-3II. They were in my carryon luggage; one in camera and three in small plastic boxes sold as storage containers. (Super Stackers) At no point was I questioned about having components with Li-Ion batteries.
So, my bag had my Kindle, laptop, camera with three batteries, a UV-C light source and my Zune. Along with my phone and Fitbit, that is eight (8) Li-Ion batteries that did not raise any issue with security in the USA, Norway, UK and Netherlands.
Don't overthink this.

Zero (0). But since you are talking web sites/forums then four (4).
Pentax Forums.
DPR.
The Online Photographer.
Phobolgrapher - but since they do not cover DSLR's anymore - just for some of the images covered.
I have an account on LinkedIn - but I ignore it for the most part. I dropped the Pentax "group" years ago.

I personally do not consider web sites as social media. So it goes.

This issue is well known among users of Schmit-Cassegrain telescope users. When you are setting up your scope it is part of the initialization process to take the lens cap off of the front element (in my case it is an 8" telescope) and point it skyward for 15-20 minutes at least. The issue is with the large mirror at the base and the air inside the telescope tube and the air need to equalize with the external air temperature.

The hot/warm air inside the tube will cause the image to blur. If you are going to jump outside and start looking through the telescope, expect the focus to change. It takes about 30 minutes to set my telescope up (set up tripod, get scope out of trunk - yeah trunk, orient the scope and telescope to the proper alignment (True North and Latitude) and set up the power to run the clock in the base of the telescope). Once you get the latitude set in, you pop the front lens cap off and run around doing other things for 20 minutes. Not a big deal, process is everything.

Switched Back to Windows 10

The better half and I have updated our machines.
Changes to the interface and it appears to be missing (or I can't find them yet) tools that I use often enough to have crated pinned groups. Pinned groups are no longer a thing - evidently MS thinks you need to remember the name of the program rather than look at the pinned set of programs labeled "games". Icons are huge and the spacing between folders/files in explorer is also huge (found a way to fix it but - really?).
I do not have any photo applications on this device, but I do have a set of photo "helpers" and now I have to remember how they are spelled to get to them. Some of them do not show up in the "start menu all apps" list.
It will take me a little time to get re-organized, a common thing in Windows upgrades, but there are no real showstoppers at the moment. I do almost feel the need to drive up to the Redmond Campus and yell at a few millennials, but I will get over it.

Edit:
My Windows NT 4 screen savers still work (yeah - Pipes baby).

My better half and I are twice shot and boosted. No aftereffects at all, no fever, no shakes, no sweats, nothing.

I can't get any sympathy -- poor little me. The only shot mix that gave me fits was the Shingles, Pneumonia and flu shot all at once in 2018. Down with a 101-degree F fever for a day and a half. Covid-19 shots (Pfizer) are a piece of cake.

How Will You Practice Photography When The Grid Goes Down?

Over the last 26 years in this house, we have averaged around a week of power outages per year. This past year has been pretty good because, we bought a 13kw natural gas generator and it has been protecting us for 270+ days with 48 total hours of running.

In past years we have - on average - spent 4-5 days in a row - per year without power during the colder months. The longest was 8 days followed by another 4-day outage a few years ago. We had gotten to know a few local hotels and after the last 4-day outage, my wife said enough is enough and we bought the generator. We got the last one in the warehouse, follow on customers had to wait 6 months to get them.

Each time we had outages we had to throw out all the food in the refrigerator (a few hundred dollars), spend money on hotels to have the chance to take a shower and eat actual warm food. The overall power system in the PNW is extraordinarily fragile. Any wind and our neighborhood is the first to lose power and usually among the last to get it back (yes I track it using the PSE web site - their App will not run and has not run for the last year). You can hear the same transformer blow time after time. The power grid out here is a joke and my neighborhood has underground power lines.

Now we have the fridge, microwave, front room (TV), master bedroom, garage (alarm system and garage opener), heater and the man cave (computers). The generator thing is noisy though, sounds like a Harley outside the window.

Quick answer: No, Natural Immunity is less effective than a series of shots.

First American to Die of Omicron Variant Was Unvaccinated

The one death from Omicron demonstrates that "natural immunity" is not as good as the shots. Read carefully - the guy is dead and this was his second infection.

If you want to take a chance - a poor one at that - go ahead. However, you should think of the people around you and understand the facts. There have been millions of shots distributed with few issues. Most of the people hospitalized and near death, dying or dead are not vaccinated.

I have a 2008 Impreza. As of today, I have under 70,000 miles - somewhere around 65,000 miles. No real mechanical issues and I bought the add on where I get oil changes at no charge. (The dealer did not realize that I drive cars into the ground). The service guy finally noticed that I had not had the "normal" maintenance so the timing belt and other pieces were change - way out of "should do this at xxx miles).

No problems with the car other than they had to give it a colonoscopy ---- Let me explain.

My better half came hold and complained that she could not fill the car with gas. I tried and basically had to trickle the gas into the tank. I took the car in and the service guy said there was no problem. So over about a year I took filled the car and on a good day it took about 20 minutes to fill it. I finally went back to the dealer and I complained that this had been going on for a year and that they needed to look at what was going on. I got the same "guy" and he was not happy, so he had a mechanic go with me to the local gas station. I showed him the issue and let him try to fill the tank. You had to hold the handle on the nozzle to the first notch, or anything beyond off, and the automatic shut off would kick in because fuel would fill up the tube - or overflow. Anyway, after the mechanic verified my "story" the guy gave me a loaner and handed my case off to another guy (he was convinced I was full of it). When I went back to the dealer to pick up the car, they had a 10 inch piece of garden hose to show me. They had to use a fiber-optic camera to see the piece of hose stuck in the bottom of the fuel filler tube. Once they removed the piece of hose, the issue was solved. They have the piece of hose hanging on the wall of the garage to remind mechanics to actually look for solutions. The original guy still does not like to work with me since it has been 13 years that the dealer has been not charging me for oil changes. (Environmental fees and such not included)

Nice car, my second Subaru. Our first had timing belt problems along with gasket failures, but we still put north of 120,000 miles on it.

My better half got her booster yesterday, but there is another Covid-19/ICU issue that is going to cause a lot of mental/emotional pain over the next few years.

ICU induced Delirium. It occurs in people who are placed in induced comas and it is horrifying.

The video is from the Atlantic. ICU Delirium - The Atlantic

The mental health issues from the pandemic are going to be with us for decades. The PTSD in first responders, medical staff and people recovering from hospitalization just might bring all to our knees.

Whoosh!!
The site is used to track vaccine reactions and is not predicated on having side effects. It is a method of reporting effects IF THEY OCCUR.
The site pings you once a week for a month and then bi-weekly and monthly there after. It is an effort to track side effects.
