For quite a few years, my kit was M 28/3.5, K 55/1.8 and M 135/3.5. I do not ever being disappointed by the lenses: it was the photographer that screwed up.

"Statue of Liberty at blue hour"! That photo blows any super moon set photo out of the running. That is, in my foggy memory, the most striking photo of the Statue of Liberty I have ever seen, and one of the most pleasing architectural shots to boot.

I think that sounds like an expensive problem. I got off easy on my last problem that was a surprise, but was still several $$$: the routine 48,000 Km service on my Tundra revealed a pinhole leak in the radiator. I say easy, because I could time the repair, but it isn't cheap to take the whole front end of a Tundra apart to change the rad out. I looked at repair, but 90% of the cost was labour to take the truck apart and put it back together again. 3.5 hours

Use a tuner cleaner instead of lighter fluid. I have a spray bottle of TUNER CONTROL.

That depends entirely on how you define "quality". I don't give a **** what camera you use and how many pixels it has. I am using a 24 Mp K3 because that's what I could afford when I destroyed my K10D. I got the K10D because living in the mountains I lost access to decent developing and printing services and there was a sale on for a K10D + DA 12-24.

Side by side in the local real estate agent's office are two 20x30 inch prints. One from the K10D and 12-24, the other from K3 and DA 55-300. NOONE ever comments on how the detail in the K3 image is better resolved than the detail in the K10 image.

EVERYONE is fascinated by a print on my wall, 8x10 inches of HMS Bounty II motoring toward the Lions Gate bridge in Vancouver BC, made in 1962 when she was on her world promotion tour. Taken with an Asahi Pentax (1/5, 1/25 etc, first ever, bought in a pawn shop) and preset Takumar 135 and #2 orange filter. So were the judges in the MGM contest; I won second prize in B+W division.

My good friend and fellow photographer Shelly just bought a new Canon 5 series body. She takes lovely photos and has the wherewithall to go on polar bear excursions. I'm envious of the excursions. I love her photos. We both held low cost seminars for photo newbies in the local recreation seminar to share our love for cameras. One of the more spectacular examples I presented was taken by my wife of almost 57 years now, with a fixed focus, picture aperture settings box camera of a friend's #2 son, standing sideways on a log into the edge of a lake in evening warm sun, highlighting his red hair. The idea was to let them know: THE EQUIPMENT DOESN'T TAKE THE PICTURE; THE PHOTOGRAPHER DOES.

I am a curmudgeon. I will be 82 yo on Friday coming. I own and use a K3 I bought used when I slipped on the ice and smashed my K10D's top plate. I went digital with the K10D when developing film ended up being Walmart (135 Km West) or mail.

Out camping and fooling around I will take snaps with the iPhone. Why not? It's the 2022 baby Brownie. Sometimes the picnic gear is more important to carry than the photo gear. On hikes I take the K3 + DA* 16-50 with genuine Pentax hand strap in Grandma mode. I may or may not take a backpack with more stuff in it. May 15-18 I met my daughter and her husband near Radium Hot Springs for a lovely weekend of walking and soaking. The DA*16-50 was accompanied by a backpack with swim trunks and towel for the 3 Km walk to the hot springs.

The gear isn't the point for me, it's what I capture.

My Tundra (342,000 Km) has failed to start like that twice. Both problems were found with the nut sitting by the steering wheel who didn't close the driver's side door all the way draining the battery overnight. I bought the Tundra 7 Sep 2003 and have replaced the battery exactly once.

In 1955, a Texas owner of a Bentley Speed Six was driving to a show in Vancouver BC, as people would actually do with their valuable antiques in those days, and I was hitchhiking. He was bored and picked up an impressionable barely 15 year old a few miles North of the US border. So there I am, sitting behind the smaller windscreen used by the mechanic when racing, when an unknowledgeable, stupid owner of a new MG thought he would play games with the big old, slow (?) antique. You know the type, pass, slow down force pass, repeat ad nauseum to show how good a driver he is and how he is driving such a hot car. Owner of Bentley felt frisky, and asked if there was a two lane stretch soon. I pointed out a hill on old highway 99 a few miles ahead. Owner yelled (it was noisy in the old girl) in my ear and said I was to tell him when his exhaust pipe was exactly beside the idiot's left ear and made a pass at the bottom of the hill. I tapped his shoulder as instructed, and he sped up a bit. MG followed. About the time we hit the top speed of the MG Owner of Bentley shifted into top gear and floored it with supercharger screaming leaving MG in the dust, owner's jaw in his slippers. We stopped later for a drink and snack and owner let me in on the secret. He was driving one of the 1928 Le Mans spares and informed me it would do some ridiculously fast 3 digit speeds. Since that day I have lusted over driving one for even a few blocks.

The only tank (a Sherman) I drove (all of 100 feet to remove it from the armoury) had rubberized tracks for use as a parade vehicle.

A couple of snaps through window glass. Cropped for composition from DNG in LightRoom Classic. LRC Auto exposure adjustments. A white tail doe who wanders just outside our back fence daily. Behind the fence is a lodgepole pine forest, and there is a wildlife corridor down to the Elk River to the doe's left.

The second image is two of the three Stellar's Jays who habituate the back yard. The little birds are still working their way North at the end of winter. As I write this at 13:30, it is 5 C (41 F), cloudy and windy. I'm hoping it gets a bit warmer at the end of the week. I'm meeting my daughter and her husband in RedStreak campground, Kootenay National Park. If it isn't warmer, Radium Hot Springs is only a couple of Km from the campsite.
