Introducing profiles that mess with the Limiteds' rendering kind of defeats the intended object of them.

The gist of this thread is that the Q-mount 08 is highly regarded, fully sold out, and now hard to obtain. But if you like to wallow in gloom, that is your privilege.

Metabones is still offering Q-mount:

This, of course, has nothing to do with the crowdfunding that might follow a worldwide expansion of the new Ricoh strategy.

Who knows? If Ricoh take their new Japan business strategy* worldwide, we can crowdfund a revival of the 08 and a run of the Telephoto Macro 09!

* Offer limited-edition models in small quantities through crowdfunding. In order to respond to the passionate requests from our customers, we will start "workshop-style manufacturing" to give unique value through limited production.

Hey, I even dream of an MF version (44x33mm), just to annoy Fuji.

A 28/3.5 Shift for wideangle, 50/1.2 for normal, and maybe the M100/2.8 for longer, based on this review:

The primes, yes. The DA 20-40 has the DC motor.

As it happens, the DA 20-40 is about the same size as the screwmount FA 20-35. The motor in the DA, or its faster apertures at the short end, don't seem to have increased the size.

Problems with new to me K3iii

The only time I ever bought a refurbished camera from Ricoh (a Q7), it did not last long before it failed. If a K3iii is already being sold as "refurbished", there's most likely something wrong going on. Better to cut your losses and return it, while you still can. My 2c.

There is another reason for the size, too: to provide a decent heat sink. Casual users and internet whiners who call the K-01 a "failure" never take the trouble to understand the camera.

New Ultra-Wide lens for Pentax FF...

This thread is about an "ultra-wide lens". For such lenses, diffraction kicks in early when stopping down from fully open.

Nope. As the distance from the image center varies, the MTF charts plot the single contrast (as a percentage ratio between the brightnesses of adjacent black lines and white lines) for each given resolution (listed in terms of how many of those line pairs are packed in each millimeter of image). When lens faults smear the image, the black lines bleed in to the white lines, reducing the percentage of contrast between the two. There are two MTFs for each lp/mm, one for line pairs arranged radially out from the center (like a star chart), and the other for concentric circular line pairs.

The Imatest charts you see on sites like Optical Limits and Optyczne present a limited version of the MTF information differently, identifying at how many lp/mm the MTF contrast hits 50%.

They are quite upfront:

"The MTF charts are valid for .. white light"

and

"Data ... [n]ot for IR version".

"MTF calculated without referencing the effects of light diffraction phenomenon"

"Calculated", not "measured". Diffraction happens!

I would be interested to know what they use in their "program line" program. Anybody hacked it?

Zeiss give reliable MTF functions at full aperture and at working aperture. This was always the norm, against which some of the current marketing tricks are just worthless.

Here is an example from Zeiss:

It doesn't even say what aperture. My guess would be f/5.6 or thereabouts.

The only connections are electrical.

My Irix 11/4 Firefly came with an interesting variant of the KA4 mount. For the first exposure, it uses the aperture that is set from the camera. After that, it defaults to f/22.

The name also includes "Goerlitz", but it's not made there either. Methinks these folk have already blown their credibility.
