This harbour / human interest shot was just there, with bang on exposure and taken on Canada Day.

The sturdy vintage lens was used with manual focus of course, with that beautiful Pentax colour. ; )

The jpeg image was straight from the camera with Fujifilm's 'classic chrome' film simulation.

It's a simple image but I was pleased with it. And I haven't submitted anything for a while.

Cheers, C.

Northern Flicker visited my yard, as happens often.

His head was moving, pecking, so I missed dead-on sharpness.

I find in cases like this, image editing software is invaluable.

The entries are marvelous, so many terrific views.

But this composition speaks to me. The colours are subtle but deep and rich.

An Harbinger of Spring.

B.t.w., the nice tree I posted about previously was a casualty of a wind storm last Dec. 20th.

Thank you.

It was a bandwidth problem here, my bad.

The photo was too small to show the frost pattern on the tree leaves anyway.

I'll repost later.

Hi -
This is my eucalyptus tree again, with frost edging the green leaves.

Using my new little 35mm lens this time, rather than a Pentax mount lens.

However a change of direction on full frame has seen me choose a Sony camera over the K1.

Both are excellent, but the new mirrorless style suits me quite well; y.m.m.v..

Messier 45 star cluster in Taurus, 'the Seven Sisters'

Hi -
I took some pains with this one and am pleased with it.
However
1. It doesn't show the density of the cluster and appears to be missing one 'sister', below the frame.
2. Star tracking provided by with certain Pentax cameras was not available.
3. With the cluster rising in the N.E. toward midnight PST, the blue-white reflection nebula is not seen.
Why? See point #2. { ;- 0

I've dropped in to the forum only occasionally of late due to being busy. Who isn't?
Cheers, C.

Hi -
This is not all that 'special', just a testament to nice ol' vintage lenses whose makers were smart enough to imitate Pentax colour and metal construction. ; )

So it might be a lens testimonial if used on a Pentax camera, and it is new - to me! I'd give it an '8'. This is a manual lens made in Korea.

According to the seller the original marque was Hanimex. And the lens is just as sharp wide open.

Thanks once more to Pentaxforums / reviews for pointing me to it.

The subject is rose hips, which I use in tea. Uncovered in your 'fridge they will last a year and are strong in vitamin 'C'.

Regards,
/C

We are not worthy?

'Smoke gets in your eyes' department:

Hi - We are experiencing once again, a certain effect of climate change.

Namely there are 600 forest fires burining in B.C., at least one in our valley in plain sight.

This image facing WSW of clouds and haze was underexposed, but looks more dramatic I think @ f22.

(I didn't want too much direct sunlight on my camera sensor).

Hi !

Gotta beg your indulgence this time for two reasons.

First the image is a small one of Mars, tiny in fact, although not cropped much & the best I have so far.

We were out just two and a half hours past "opposition" July 27th 12:30 a.m. PST.

Although the closest approach is to be on the 31st July 2018.

The other reason is the lack of Pentax content. ; ) I assembled this kit as much for astronomy as other purposes.

Hi -

The June 'rivers and fiords' winning photo is beautiful, altough I voted for something else.

The field was crowded with wonderful entries, I think a finalist was from near my home, the Howe Sound photo.

Hi -

About seeing Mars from Ireland... you are six or seven hours ahead of Vancouver time.

So I would guess about 10 p.m. and further to the west, maybe south-west?

Given clear weather there is a window of a couple of weeks. But you might consult astronomy software.

On Android I have SkyPortal (from Celestron).

And on the desktop (even w/o a network hookup) I have 'Stellarium'. It should be 'cross-platform'.

Stellarium has support from the gov't of Austria.

Good luck. Cheers, C.

Conjunction of the new moon (15%) and the planet Venus (64%).

Hi -

First, congrats to the K1 camera winner. I have had input to the June photos contest only, lately.

I noticed this pretty conjuction after eight p.m., Pacific time.

The photo was taken at 9:45 p.m., + 2/3 e.v. and hand held, after a few 'Mulligans'!

Then I raised the ISO a bit. ; )

The event was predicted but I had not remembered that.

Please note that approaching July 31st we have the chance of a lifetime to see Mars more clearly.

That will be at 3 to 4 a.m. Pacific time though... and due south at about 25% elevation.

Regards, /C

Thank you!

It's strange to say on a photo blog, but pictures don't do that spot justice.

You are in Golden? Another beautiful place, lots of snow in winter of course.
