Affinity.

Ive been using Affinity Photo on the iPad Pro since I picked up as 12.9 in January.
I tend to use Lightroom Mobile CC to do initial adjustments, lens correction, etc and then export into Affinity for editing, Lightroom is a better photo manager (Affinity iPad doesnt offer any type of Digital Asset Management currently).
Ive not had a Pentax since early last year and have mainly used it for Sony & Nikon files, but I have played with a few old Pentax K1 files and been very pleased with how it works.

Why 28 and not 24?

Agree a 24mm of some kind is needed, it's shame Sigma aren't bringing the 24mm f1.4 Art to K mount.

Why would an 18-35 be strange for full frame? Nikon make the excellent 18-35G which is an outstanding UWA lens.

DFA 28-105 - worth the purchase?

Just to weigh in, I think the 28-105 is a stellar lens with its only "failing" being that it doesn't go to 24mm!! I picked a used one up to take to Prague in February as I didn't want to carry the 24-70 and was bowled over by its quality, so much so that I've just sold my 24-70 and picked up a couple of primes for speed (31/77).

I'm not sure if the Pentax 24-70 suffers from the same "iffy" quality as the Tamron badged one, I had 3 copies of that in Nikon mount and they were very inconsistent sharpness wise even with AF adjust, perhaps the Pentax is the same as I've seen some cracking sharp images with it, perhaps I'll try it again someday.

I think I can cover off the 24mm end with the 15-30 as its really good at that focal length, probably better than the 24-70 is actually....... all in though the 28-105 is stunning given the price and a very able competitor to similar Nikon and Canon lenses (albeit they are a fixed F4), the excellent high ISO of the K1 means the "need" for f2.8 just isn't there for much of my shooting.

Current Pentax 50mm primes on K-1?

I've tried the 50 FA 1.4, 55mm f1.4 and the 43mm f1.9 Ltd (OK not exactly 50mm), I actually found the 50 FA 1.4 to be the best performer on the K1 and much cheaper than the other two, I mainly shoot landscapes and cityscape so tend to be stopped down but very impressed with it.

Filter holder for Pentax D-FA 15-30mm and the IRIX 15mm lens ?

I have the Lee SW150ii holder and the adaptor rings for a few sizes (82mm, 77mm & the 15-30 holder), I've just sold my 15-30 to give the Irix 15mm Blackstone a try and have bought the 95mm adapter ring as the Irix has a filter thread, will let you know how I get on!

The only downside I see to this holder is the size of the filters but they're needed to cover the front element of the wider lenses and it works great.

Tamron 70-200 with teleconverters?

Pentax 1.4x TC is very good on the Tamron 70-200, I'm considering my long options again and was close to pulling the trigger on a 60-250 as most opinion seems that its very good on the K1 but the Tammy is much much cheaper.

KP - Alternative to a Fuji X?

I guess this is potentially aimed at anyone who had shot with a "3rd Generation" Fuji X camera (X-Pro 2 or XT2) and the KP.
I'm a fairly recent convert to Pentax having picked up a K1 and 24-70 at Christmas and I'm loving shooting with it but sometimes a smaller body would be nice.
I previously had a Fuji X-Pro 2 & XT2 and have considered another one of those as a smaller, lighter companion but then the KP appeared.
On the face of it size wise its little bigger than either of the Fuji's and I'm sure that the image quality is going to be similar if not the same.
A KP and some small primes looks like it would be a nice small, lighter kit when the K1 isn't neccesarily needed, for example when travelling and also opens up access to a few of the Pentax primes and zooms which aren't full frame compatible (DA15, DA21, etc)

I just wondered if anyone with a KP has shot both and has any thoughts?

Looks like you've made up your mind but I can also echo that the Tamron is a cracking choice especially given the price, I honestly didn't expect too much but was blown away by the IQ on the K1.
I've sold mine now but regretting it a little and might have a look for another, it also works pretty well with the Pentax 1.4x Teleconvertor.

Filter holder for 31mm Limited?

Peter,

I purchased a filter adapter tube which basically screws onto the 58mm thread and extends it - like this (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003B3DZ3M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

This allows me to then use a step up ring to attach this to the larger adapters for my Lee SW150 holder although it does result in significant vignetting unfortunately.
I may pick up a couple of slim circular 58mm for this lens, although I have considered selling it and just picking up the FA35/2 as stopped down its meant to be very good on the K1 and doesn't have the same filter issues!

Pentax 15-30 - AF Issue
Posted By edin_togger

Folks,

Has anyone had previous issues with the AF motor on the 15-30? I've been using mine only with manual focus of late as I've been doing long exposures through a 10 stop filter which prevents reliable autofocus.
I've just put the lens back on the K1 today and flicked it to Autofocus, I got a loud noise almost like an old screw drive lens whens its hunting through the focus scale and then it stopped and won't focus now at all, other lenses seem ok on the body so I think I can rule out the K1 being the issue.

Its even more a pain as I'd arranged to sell the lens so I've had to cancel the sale.

I know a few folks previously on Nikon have had issues with the Tamron variant of the lens so I suppose it could be the same in the Pentax? At least its under warranty but its still a pain, wasn't expecting issues with such an expensive lens.

Good to know! I've been considering a smaller body to accompany my K1 and had thought about another Fuji but it makes sense to share lenses if I can so this could be a goer.

K1 Travel Telephoto Options?

Thanks folks.

I'm off to Berlin in July and will be taking my 15-30 and 24-70 to cover off most things and probably a prime (either my 31 or if I sell it maybe a 35).

Slow AF isn't an issue as I'm mainly doing static landscape or city shots so the 100mm could be an option to cover off.

I own the Tamron 70-200 and even with the 1.4x TC I've found it to be a great performer.

However for travel it is a bit big and heavy and I wondered what (if any) alternatives folk could suggest which are K1 compatible and might be smaller fr travelling? I did wonder if the 100mm Macro might be a decent shout as it is also compatible with the TC.

Lens Options for K-1

I had to start my Pentax lens lineup from scratch as I was moving over from Fuji and appear to have made a similar decision to yourself.
Bought a 15-30 after getting a good price and I honestly can't find fault with it, excellent lens.
I opted for the 24-70 as its been my "go-to" focal length on full frame and I've only ever used the Tamron 24-70 when I had a few Nikon's (D800/D750/D810) and found it to be an excellent and fairly solid performer and I've found the Pentax to be the same, a solid and dependable lens albeit at a price.

I did however pickup a used 28-105 to take on a travel weekend due to the size of the 24-70 and to be honest I was plenty impressed with the quality of the lens, I tend to be stopped down to f8/f14 most of the time and I don't see much difference.
For me though only being 28mm at the wide end is the issue for me, I tend to use the 24-70 at 3 main lengths, 24/35/50, it might only be an extra 4mm but for me thats a huge difference, its also important to note the fixed f2.8, you may not "need" f2.8 but it does allow you to stop down a little and I'd say the 24-70 is better at f3.5/f4 than the 28-105 is.....

In future for travel I could probably get around it by taking the 15-30 and 28-105 while travelling but we'll see, I'd rather take the 24-70 and have a smaller, wide option like hopefully a new 20mm or perhaps even a Samyang.

All in though both lenses are good but I'll likely be keeping the 24-70 over the 28-105 and taking my 31/43 as a smaller travel companion.

Nice KP Review

Good review, spotted it online last night, I wasn't that interested in the KP as I've been getting to grips with my new K1 but actually there are times that APS-C would be handy and the smaller size of the KP could be a benefit. I'd certainly opt for this over another Fuji X-Pro 2 as I could share lenses and this with a couple of my Ltd Primes (31/43) would be great on holiday.

Hi folks,

I'm travelling to Prague next week for a few days and I'm looking for some suggestions on what to visit.
I've been before and did some of the more common sights like Charles Bridge and the Castle but I'm keen to see what people recommend, we're staying very close to the Old Town Square (not that I'm sure it matters much!)
