Above and beyond any warranty offered by a local distributor Australia also has comprehensive consumer protection laws. Consumer guarantees | ACCC
These won't apply to overseas transactions. While the obligation to honour these statutory guarantees may impose a cost burden on local distributors I'm happy to pay extra to have the benefits of them.

How about a phone camera which downloads a photo that has been taken before at the same place in the same light but simply interpolates the taker's face? This would take care of 99% of tourist selfies.

The final price will be 750 GBP. You can get a Lumix GX880 which does the same things for 249 GBP. It'll even come with a lens. And you won't miss a shot trying to get your phone attached to the camera without dropping either or both.

I still have my K5 which I bought after my Kx and while I have a KP and a K1 I don't have any misgivings if I'm using it. It's my beach holiday camera and usually lives in my office. It's not only good enough but it established that sweet spot of megapixels to low light performance balance where there's only been incremental rather than dramatic improvement since. I can't believe it's over ten years old. It helps explain why DSLR sales have fallen off a cliff.

You're leaving out the $1200-$1500 difference in choices. If you have the money it makes more sense to wait a few weeks and get the K3iii. The difference between the K3 and KP may not represent as dramatic an upgrade so the money saving would be a false economy.

People say bad things about Fomapan but don't believe them. It's a great film for the price. For colour, Kodak Pro Image 100 is also good value. I have an unopened five pack of 120 Neopan Acros which I bought in 2018. Maybe I should put it on eBay and pay off my mortgage.

I have had and disposed of two P30s with similar problems. They weren't built to last. If you've developed an interest in Pentax keep the lens and buy an MX or even an ME Super. ME Supers can have film advance problems also but I find all they need is a little love. You have to use them or they start to jam up a little. Nevertheless with this camera you don't know if there's an issue until you run a roll through.

I've also found the V550 less than perfect. I'm not sure if the lack of sharpness and the graininess is it or the negative (ie my poor photography skills). Some of the Epson scanners have holders with adjustable feet to aid with focusing. But not the V550. I've just bought a thin light box (Huion A4) and I'm going to use the V550 to find the best shots and then I'm going to scan keepers with my K1 and the D FA 100 macro but still use the Epson holders. I know it's probably overkill but if the photo is worth working with then it's worth working with. I've also just left some colour film to be developed at a lab and I'm paying extra to get a drum scan. It'll be a good way to benchmark against the Epson once I pick up the negatives. Surprised that the P series is popular. The automation is convenient but they weren't made to last. I've gone through two of them. They both had film advance problems.

That's exactly my position. I'm using this break to get back into film. I developed a roll of 120mm yesterday. The first in two years. It's so easy to get out of the film habit and time rushes by. Of course lockdowns and no international travel haven't helped.

A photo which matches the seasonal holiday.
Mamiya M645 1000s, 80mm 2.8, Neopan Acros 100 (I have about four rolls left), Ilford LC29, Epson V550. This would have been 1/250 f4 with a yellow filter. Virgin Mary by Francis Johns, on Flickr

Nikon AW130. This really does look like a cheesy postcard.

I should add that in the general misery of 2020 this forum has been a positive and uplifting resource. Thank you everyone for maintaining and sustaining this community.

Lowepro Dryzone camera bag. I'll find a use for it kayaking but it's also something extravagant I'd never get for myself. Santa must have thought I've been very good this year.

I'm going on a beach holiday tomorrow. I'm taking a K5 and a DA 18-135. I'm happy to have this combo in the bottom of a kayak (in a dry bag) or wade out into the surf to take photos of the kids. If something terrible happened to it, it would be sad but not a tragedy. Who else has a beater camera which you will take higher than usual risks with, but will still take great photos?

Landscape for me. More of the scene establishes the context and the barn palings create leadings lines which lead somewhere.

Only that once you mount it you'll rarely take it off. I have the 43 and the FA 28-105 zoom and that's it. I have no need for anything else.

Ultramax aside I've been watching Jess Hobbs for years. She's really engaging and enthusiastic and never tries to pretend she's a great photographer. She just goes out and takes photos which happen to be very good.
