Picked up a Huawei P20 Pro A.I Phone (I'd say smartphone but this thing is beyond that).
Top rated camera phone (DxO mark) co-engineered with Leica. I've done some shots (night with moon and street lights) and the results are stellar for a phone.
So far it seems to be the perfect B-roll photo and video (even does 960 FPS slow-mo and 3d/360 photos) companion for my K-3.
The one thing I don't understand is how does all this tech end up in a phone for $1000-$1300 CAD but then on a Mirrorless or DSLR they can't do as much.

How come your K-50 isn't producing 4928 x 3264 size images?
I always work with the most pixels I can get and if needed, downsize after. Or am I reading your settings wrong? It looks like you loaded a 2700 x 2700 image, re-edited it further, then re-saved it again.

You asked about the Shanny, that's what I was answering. Shanny on camera HSS only works in P-TTL.

On the hot shoe, it has to be in P-TTL for HSS unfortunately.

Questions about light stand.

Oh man! It's plastic fingers?!! The convertible umbrella I have (I don't have a parabolic and I also don't recall the company name of my umbrella) is all metal with a solid metal rod. I'm actually shocked that they used plastic for the insides given their function of tension and collapsing when the umbrella is folded up. Wow!

---------- Post added 03-08-19 at 09:50 PM ----------

I just looked up some other parabolic umbrellas and they all are either plastic of some sort of composite material (like a fishing rod). I never actually noticed that before.
Unfortunately manufacturing defects can and do happen as well. Can send it back as a warranty case for replacement? It should have come with a card from Neewer in case there's any issues. They seem pretty responsive (at least on social media).

The only Neewer products I purchase are the re-branded Godox due to the price being lower on the Neewer (I have 2 Bowens S-Mounts, 2 7ft stands (with the quick locks instead of the twist locks) and a collapsible softbox (24"/60cm). I haven't had any issues with them in 2 years. The stands you can tell are not the best quality but they do the job. I've used them outdoors in windy conditions with the softbox mounted but I use sand bags for the feet. The top sways around but the weight keeps them planted. Due to the inner workings of umbrellas, I'd pay the extra money for higher quality.

Shanny SN600FGZ P-TTL HSS Flash for $120?

I dunno, Ask Shanny, or Pentax, or a scientist, or a lighting engineer lol.
Maybe +3 EV in P-TTL HSS fires a bright enough initial burst to match 1/1? I didn't invent the thing, so I have no answer for you.
In a more enclosed area, yes 1/1 is significantly brighter than +3 EV in P-TTL HSS (I tested in a small room, so less ability for light to spread). But in a larger room, there really wasn't that much difference, if any.
Again, these are my findings, that's all I can provide.

Odd. For some reason, it looks pretty close to switching the metering from Avg to Center to Spot.
I don't have a K1, or a K1 II so I don't know what all the bells, whistles, flutes, banjos and cow bells are.

Shanny SN600FGZ P-TTL HSS Flash for $120?
Posted By Kobie

No. It fully needs P-TTL when on camera for HSS. Just like a Pentax Flash. Reason being is that the camera is controlling the flash to a certain degree and it's pre-programmed parameters.
*Lever on hot shoe moves down so camera knows a flash is connected*
*Camera checks if it can send info to flash (P-TTL)>if no = single pin up to X-Sync fire<>If yes=Sends camera info to flash and tells flash how to, well, flash*
You can have the flash set up to do HSS in manual mode, but since the camera can't get a response from the flash when it tries to send P-TTL info, the camera hot shoe programming defaults to standard X-sync speeds, so you can't move the shutter speed any higher than 1/180 sec.

---------- Post added 03-07-19 at 03:54 PM ----------

From the tests that I did. Using HSS with +3 EV on the flash was the same as Manual mode at 1/1. I'll see what happens when I do 1/180 sec at 1/1, ISO 100, and HSS at 1/200 sec at +3EV ISO 100.

Shanny SN600FGZ P-TTL HSS Flash for $120?

Okay, I just did some quick testing and OMG!!!! I'm excited. Anyway, here's what works...
I could not get Power Sync to work at all, period.
So I started messing with a bunch of various functions and figured something out.
The Shanny set in "M" with Sync set to "HS" and the cactus set to "relative power" using HSS in TTL mode allows you to control the EV level on the Cactus and the absolute power on the flash. So you can now have full 1/1 flash power in HSS!
I'll make a quick video demonstrating this, outside with the high sun in front to give a view of over powering the sun with one flash using my trusty evergreen tree model lol.

Try reseting the Shanny back to factory defaults and then try. I've had to do that a couple of times. Also, when mounting the shanny on the KS-2, turn camera on first, half press shutter then turn on the shanny to establish full communication. See if either of those helps.

---------- Post added 03-06-19 at 02:16 PM ----------

For the manual mode HSS, it works as a slave to have the shanny fire in HSS off camera using the Pentax optical triggering (you'll need a HSS flash mounted to the camera though as a master/Controller), I don't have another HSS flash to test with but another forum member who I helped out regarding the shanny did try it and it was successful.
I haven't actually used the Power Sync Cactus option to be honest. But now I'm curious about that. I'll give it a go as soon as I have some extra time and compare the difference between HSS and Power Sync.

It's hard to make out what you mean from these pictures but I think it's the Octabox/umbrella hitting the stand itself. It's tilted too far down. If you need that kind of range, you can either pull the umbrella closer to the flash, or use an additional arm that mounts to the stand.
You would have light stand connected to the arm, then the umbrella mounted to the arm.

As for having it blow over in the wind, it's just one of those things that will happen. I've been lucky and fast enough to catch mine before it crashed to the ground. I got some nylon courier pouches, filled freezer ziploc bags with sand and stuck those inside the pouches. Those are my weights. I use one for each leg. The top of the stand (mast) and softbox do move around a bit, but the legs stay where they are. The only times I had an issue was without using the pouches, and uneven surfaces. I've been in some pretty windy conditions but it's been fine. Having the umbrella open faced will spell disaster as the wind will catch the insides and yank it like a sail or kite.

Shanny SN600FGZ P-TTL HSS Flash for $120?

The flash needs Camera communication for HSS to work, so.... HSS requires P-TTL and you can adjust the output -/+ 3 EV. I have the flash (but a K-3 and K-30) and have shown that the HSS works quite well both on camera and off camera using Cactus V6 II triggers. I've posted the videos on here before but I can link them as a comment if you want to see it actually working outdoors in bright light so you can determine (kind of) if it would be powerful enough for you. It is a pretty powerful flash to be honest.

^^^ This. I remember on my K200D there was an expanded Dynamic Range mode or something or other, but it would then set the base ISO at 200 and not 100.
I was going to mention this but y'all beat me to it lol

What ISO are you using, Aperture, Shutter speed?
You mention
Do you mean Manual mode on the camera or Manual on the flash?
The flash itself is in P-TTL mode with the little camera icon on the flash display?

Pentax KP battery issue?
Posted By Kobie

Is this with the battery fresh out of the charger, put in the camera, warm travelling (in a car, not walking) and it only gets 8-10 photos? Is this shooting in live view? How long is the camera exposed to the cold before the photos start?
Cold kills batteries really fast and using features that use more battery in the cold will kill them even faster.
On my K-3 I can have batteries that show full at home, head out in the cold, start up the camera after 30 minutes or so of being exposed to the cold and it'll be at half, a few (20) shots later, it'll show 1 bar.
Keep camera close to my body (inside my jacket) and the battery level will eventually go up by another bar.

There's many variables that can contribute to battery drainage..

I'm not talking about fitment, plenty of speakers will fit in both the cutout and have a depth suitable for the original speaker grills. I'm talking about the actual impedance (sensitivity to voltage input). The stock speakers don't actually have a counterpart in the aftermarket, and you can't just buy the stock speakers new (trust me I looked).
When I mentioned that the basket cracked, I'm talking about the back side of the speaker along the surround where the screw holes are to mount the speaker. The surrounding edge of the actual basket (that the speaker surround/suspension is attached to) is what cracked. I think I started my reply by totally misunderstanding what you were talking about lol. It's hard to explain what happened without a diagram/picture.
