Thanks for sharing. I'll share this with the warehouse shipping manager. FWIW, the lens is exceptionally well protected by the internal packaging the manufacturer provided. I am confident it arrived unscathed and in perfect working condition.

Here are all the batteries on our site we ID as being for Pentax digital cameras: Digital Camera Batteries | B&H Photo Video The two brands are Watson and Pentax. The country of origin is either China or Japan, depending on the particular item.

SDXC and SDHC cards are on our site at Memory Cards, SD Cards | B&H Photo Video. There are almost 200 items, from about a dozen brands. For some, the country of origin is China or Taiwan or Austria. I did not check them all.

B&H has not yet received any notice from distributors if/how prices in the U.S. will be affected by recent/announced changes in U.S. tariffs. I think it's worth noting that news about tariffs seems to be changing daily.

Once you'd have been correct. Now, you are not. I mentioned that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on this in June 2018 States now have the right to compel retailers to comply.

There is sales tax in NY and for a purchase made in our Manhattan store the rate is 8.875%.

You would be taxed at the rate where you are, i.e. where the order is shipped to.

We cannot force them to comply, but if Alabama has a sales tax and you buy from Adorama, you're supposed to declare "Use tax" on your state tax form next April, which you sign under penalty of perjury.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2018 that states could begin to require out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax. During October 2018 we were required to begin collecting sales tax in 15 states. That number now is up to (I believe) 22.

This ruling applies equally to all similar retailers. It's the same sales tax one would pay at a local brick-n-mortar store in your state, and it's the same tax you'd owe as "use tax" had SCOTUS not made this ruling.

B&H can't ship cameras with batteries to international destinations! Amazon can.

According to https://www.ups.com/ga/CountryRegs?loc=en_US:

Lithium Metal Batteries Shipments of Lithium Metal Batteries are prohibited on Emirates Airlines flights which UPS uses to this destination country (South Africa). Alternative arrangements are in place, but expect transit delays if the normal planned flow of the package is via Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Time in Transit may be extended due to solution found.

These restrictions and expected transit delays are, in our opinion, unacceptable. We cannot tell Amazon (or any other retailer) how to conduct business nor whether or not they should conform to international shipping safety regulations. We choose to follow these regulations scrupulously.

The space we're moving to in NJ is 500,000 square feet. The spaces listed above would barely function as linen closets in a house that size.

---------- Post added 03-27-17 at 03:02 PM ----------

You're buying media hype designed to accuse us without any proof or evidence. Our lease in Brooklyn is expiring and we do not have the option to renew. That space has been too small for a couple of years now, so even if we could renew we'd be inclined to look elsewhere. The space we're moving to is 500,000 square feet.

This has nothing to do with taxes.

In 2013, Crain's said we'd already been looking for larger quarters for several years. The union vote was Nov 2015. If we started looking for new space a couple of years before the 2013 article it should be apparent these plans were in place before the union ever raised it's head.

After exhausting our search options in NY, including assistance from Jones Lang LaSalle and the NYS ESDC, we turned our sites further afield. It was not optional.

The owners have NOT moved to the suburbs and have no plans to do so of which I am aware.

BTW I've got nothing against unions, per se, and understand historically how they've benefited workers, particularly in NY & Detroit, but then there's this.

B&H in the news!!!!

While I am not surprised to see this, I remain disappointed that so many seem to accept these untrue allegations as gospel. B&H is not moving our warehouses to NJ capriciously and we are not doing so because of the union.

We CANNOT keep the Brooklyn warehouses open. As long ago as 2010 our Navy Yard landlord told us no lease renewal would be offered. Steiner Studio was (and is) scheduled to take over the space. The issue has not been whether or not we wish to stay but that we have no option and cannot stay.

Our search for new space was aided by the largest tri-state commercial real estate company and by the NY Economic Development Corp. Despite our efforts and theirs, we were obliged to expand our search from NY to include NJ.

Since the original vote on the union was Nov 2015 I think the dates speak for themselves.

The current boycott is being promoted mainly by two groups, one an independent labor-organizing group unaffiliated with the union, and the other a group which describes itself as a “socialist organization.” Most, if not all, the demonstrators outside our store have been from one or both groups, not former or current employees.

I don't know the mileage offhand but on a typical weekday I get into my car to drive to the train station at 7:30am and arrive at my desk between 8:55 and 9:10. The average, each way, is 90 minutes.

---------- Post added 07-24-17 at 12:41 PM ----------

There is no benefit to management in the loss of qualified multi-year employees who have established their value and reliability. Every current employee in our warehouses has been offered the opportunity to continue working for us in our new facility. Some have already begun doing so. Any employee who declines will receive a severance package.

PS According to Google maps the distance from Florence NJ to Newark airport is <60 miles.

I joined this forum in 2007 but I've been online for B&H since at least 2000. Rather than "the company line" I try to provide factual information. From time to time that may suggest I disagree with another forum member's opinions, and in fact I may. I try to distinguish facts from opinions and when offering an opinion I try to support it with facts.

Indeed.

Couldn't agree more. This was Robert Moses's fatal flaw. We have the Throgs Neck Bridge because the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge (two miles away) was congested. Now, instead of alleviated congestion we have two, equally congested, bridges. Folly.

What driver? I drive my decades old Honda Civic to the local train station where I take a Metro North commuter train to Grand Central terminal and then take two subways one stop each before walking the last 2-3 blocks. And I suspect you have no idea if any or some or all our warehouse employees own cars. You're making a lot of fact-free assumptions in one tiny thread.

Are B&H and Adorama extended warranties the same?

I've asked our buyer about the two warranties. Regarding Consumer Reports -- I've read what they have to say. They're opposed to the sort of cheap extended warranty that does noting but make the duration the warranty is valid longer.

But a warranty from something like Squaretrade, not one of those the OP mentioned, is another matter. it covers a great deal more than the manufacturer including owner carelessness and other eventualities the manufacturer's coverage excludes.

B&H No longer shipping darkroom chemistry

In the wake of the ValuJet Flight 592 crash on May 11, 1996, the federal government began cracking down on safety regulations for many different chemicals in airplane cargo holds. We don't ship ground so every order has to conform. We elected to observe the safety restrictions scrupulously and the result is a range of chemicals and similar items we cannot ship. Compressed air products like Beseler Duster fall under the same restrictions. More recently there have been similar issues with lithium batteries.

I am sorry this is new information for some of you and regret the inconvenience it causes.

I appreciate your frustration and completely understand you're eager to get your camera. We're getting them and as we do we're filling back orders, oldest first, in the order we received them.

We know what we've been told to expect but experience has taught us we can only be certain of a delivery when it's sitting on our loading dock being inventoried.

Stories change for two reasons -- we get new and updated information from our supplier or we make determinations about availability based on what we actually receive. Either way, we're not blasÚ about this at all. If you received an order number there's an order and you're in the queue. We will ship your camera just as soon as we're able to do so.

---------- Post added 05-06-16 at 11:02 AM ----------

Oldest first. Domestic, international, outer space is all the same. Oldest first.

I have NO IDEA what the story is on this but I do recall a couple of times Sigma had to update their lenses to accommodate new Canon firmware. Maybe they'd like to know the details of your experience.

The person here who told you this was wrong twice. The date was incorrect and until we actually receive and inventory a delivery he should have demurred.

It's always nice to be able to say, "We were told to expect a delivery on Tuesday," and it'd be nicer to be able to say, "We were told to expect a delivery of ### cameras on Tuesday," but until the cameras are actually sitting in our warehouse there is some uncertainty, no matter what we've been assured or by whom.

I apologize.

What's Up With The New Boxes?

Thanks for the feedback. The new boxes are created from a new machine in our warehouse which designs and creates custom-size and custom-shape boxes for each individual order. The merchandise is better protected, the cost per box is lowered, and the s&h fees we're charged are lower. We pass this on to you either by offering more products with free domestic s&h or by not raising s&h fees when UPS raises our costs.

All that aside, we appreciate your feedback which I'll share with the warehouse manager.

Unfortunately there are problems with the reliability of Yelp reviews. The most obvious is that they're all but anonymous. A review written by "Lou G from Los Angeles" could be anyone or no one and could be 100% valid or 0% valid. Anonymity means the author is not accountable for inaccuracies or untruths and is immune from any repercussions as a result of those inaccuracies or untruths.

The second problem with Yelp is their mysterious system for deciding which reviews to make public and which to leave concealed. I'm active there and they know me and they are entirely unable or unwilling to explain their mysterious logarithm. I think it was devised in Hogwarts. A corollary is the disappointingly inept way they handle matters when a retailer complains a review is inaccurate or untrue or not about a particular store at all. The responses seem to come from a blindfolded person tossing darts at a wall. Inconsistent is a terrific understatement.

Sadly Yelp is not the only rate-the-retailer site which seems aboveboard but has flaws. B&H used to pay Resellerratings to participate in their "merchant member" program. Then the price sky-rocketed and we declined to renew. We stopped paying attention to Resellerratings when they raised their prices to retailers by so large a margin they made their “merchant member” program unacceptably expensive.

https://www.internetretailer.com/2013/01/09/small-web-retailers-fume-reselle...gs-price-hikes and
https://www.searchenginenews.com/sample/content/reseller-ratings-price-scand...reviews-hostag:

Reseller Ratings implemented some very questionable marketing practices in 2012 when it implemented (and then buried) a massive price increase in marketing emails that negatively impacted small retailers like yourself. The changes caused a firestorm that came to boil just last month.

ConsumerAffairs is another that looks better than it smells:
https://www.truthinadvertising.org/consumer-affairs-com/
'Consumer Watchdog' Website Faces Complaints, Lawsuits

Right now we rely on TrustPilot which may not be perfect but seems the best of the bunch for now.
