Please try not to let it bother you, Carol :o If the translation - and the message its trying to convey - is accurate (and I'd say that's a big if), you can bet it's based on culture that would be the same within most Japanese companies, and not specific to Ricoh. It grates with us here for good reason, but our cultural frame of reference is very different. We could choose to buy products only manufactured in the West by Western companies, but that would rule out most cameras and lenses. The best way for us to change regional perceptions - over time - is to have folks like yourself using the equipment, taking photos and participating on a strong, equal footing in communities like this one. Like many here, I'm sure, I'm proud to have you as a fellow Pentaxian and forum colleague, and fully aware that you know what you're doing around photography gear ;)

I think the most notable difference is that you will be able to see the benefit in the viewfinder. I use my DA*300 with the TC and there are times I wish the lens were stabilized and all the little jitters were smoothed out. If the in lens stabilization can work with the IBIS then there is even more benefit. I am definitely interested.

Maybe it's a matter of not being left behind.
The others can combine optical with in-body stabilization, with results as good as 8 stops and - with wide angle lenses - exposure times of several seconds. Pentax improved their in-body SR, but their best is still at about 5.5 stops.

I think Pentax should reserve in-lens SR for some lenses, particularly skipping primes with up to moderate focal lengths. Or at least D FA* primes (which should be about the ultimate optical quality) and Limiteds.
For a zoom like the 70-300, why not? It should help, even at that focal length.

Gotta love this thread. Wonderful bird shots from Asia, Africa, North America and Europe in succession.

Adding another continent. Rainbow Lorikeet on a bottlebrush (callistemon). KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm. Processed in DxO PL5 and finished with Nik Color Efex Pro.

The carmine bee-eater is a intra African migrant that nests on the ground or in river banks from end of Auguts in our Zambezi region. At that stage they are very colourful, but becomes quite drab when breeding stops. It seems that they are never still and in flight shots just luck, but late afternoon can find them posing for a shot or two

Just looking back at RIAT 2019 airshow, I have always complained about the autofocus on Pentax cameras but when it works I honestly don't think there is a system out there that can beat the IQ of a K-1 and 150-450mm

A lifer for me. Lewin's Rail (Lewinia pectoralis) KP + FA*300mm f4.5

Pretty special too. This is what the books say:
... "This secretive rail can be extremely difficult to see .... Uncommon, secretive and nomadic, this is a difficult species to locate" - Birds of Australia: a photographic guide
... "Secretive and difficult to sight even momentarily in the swamps where it forages; tends to come into the open less than other rails ... uncommon; patchy; nomadic" - Morcombe, Field guide to Australian birds
... "Generally secretive with typical sighting a fleeting view at edge of dense vegetation ... Movements poorly understood. Generally uncommon" - The Australian Bird Guide

The more remarkable because it wasn't in a marsh or swamp, but just in a wet area of our property.

Fairy Pitta from the North East, a very rare visitor. Missed it in 2019, when there was a first sighting in Singapore.

These ended up being the last pics I obtained of the seal pup, first of the season, at Angel Bay. The pup has weaned at this point, approx 3 weeks after birth. A few days later it was gone, off on its independent life. A pic posted on a notice board from the last day it was seen show it shedding its white coat. Adaptall 63B 400mm f4 + newly acquired 1.7x pentax tc.

Couple more pics with the adaptall-tc combo...

(this was in the interregnum before more covid restrictions came down on us here in N Wales...)

TBC....

---------- Post added 15th Oct 2020 at 20:03 ----------

A second pup has been born in Angel Bay - a couple of days old in this pic. Adaptall 360B 300mm + 1.7x tc.

The pup is gone. Long live the pup.

A few more pics.

hello cutie

BAME? I'm just a SEAL, mate!

This guy looks like he's been doing a few rounds in earnest..

And this balloon came barrelling in on the stiff northerly breeze, and disappeared in the clouds off towards Snowdonia.

Muted tones of a couple of fall warblers. They were feeding very actively, and caused me to wonder whether my DA* 300mm + TC would focus any faster with the K-new rather than the K-3.
