Is the 43mm really that bad? (APS-C)

If bokeh is your primary concern the DA 55 or 50 1.2 are probably your best bet.

It seems to me that the discussions of the DA 40 vs the FA 43 often seems to come down to the individual copies of those two lenses. I found the DA 40 bland and characterless, in fact I much preferred the DA 35 2.4. The FA 43 was my favourite of the three FA limiteds on APS-C. I suspect I have a good copy.

FA* 85 1.4 no focus

It is almost certainly the broken gear issue, which is a moderately common issue with this lens. Sometimes the gear isn't too damaged and the lens can autofocus with a strange sound. Sometimes it's too damaged and the lens won't focus at all.

By the way, if you're checking the 12-24 for decentering, check the long end. Due to the way the elements travel through the barrel, decentering can be more apparent when at 20mm+.

I had a Sigma 8-16, sold it when I went to FF & got a Sigma 12-24. After using the 12-24 for a while I purchased another 8-16 - it's simply a better lens even though it doesn't fully cover the sensor. The 8-16 also comes close to covering a FF sensor near the long end of its range too.

I respectfully disagree. Every mm becomes more important as you get wider. A 28mm would be closer to 31mm than a 24mm would be to 20mm.

Wow, you must have had a bad 43. My 43 absolutely wiped the floor with my 40. Seriously. That's why I sold my 40 and kept my 43.

His FA* 85 stopped auto-focusing. It's almost certainly the gear on the focus shaft cracking (see this thread for more info FA*85 1.4 Auto Focus Sound on K-1: Is this normal? - PentaxForums.com).

I'm pretty sure he said he still prefers the FA* 85's rendering, but he is being supported in shooting Sony.

Yeah, sorry, going to have to pile in and also disagree with this. And it's not just Chateau Neuf du Pape, there's some amazing Gigondas around - but hard to get down here. Not to mention one of the best reds I've ever had - an '89 Guigal La Turque.

That's a shame. What happened to the lens though? I know there's a focusing gear that can crack, or did you drop it?

Nice shot BTW :)

Pentax A 50 1.2 in Excellent condition

Asking Price
450.00 USD

Item Location

Item Description
I'm selling my beloved Pentax A 50/1.2

My family is gearing up for a move to an equatorial clime, so I need to trim down my lens collection. I'm not using this lens enough to justify it making the trip.

I bought this in Japan a few years ago. The shop had 4 copies all in excellent condition, so I chose the one that had the roundest aperture when closing down.

Optically the condition is excellent, I can't see any dust & there's no scratches or marks. The aperture is clean and snappy, focus is nice and smooth. I can't see any marks at all on the body, in short it's in fantastic condition.

Price is US$450 or AUD$600, plus postage.

Thanks for looking!

Would it work? Do your composition with the Image Sync app & then use an IR remote to trigger. Unless I'm missing something...

I understand it now you said minimum. :)

I'm an engineer too, 1/250 is a greater duration but a lesser speed - I think that's the cause of my confusion.

Thanks for clearing it up.

The DA 15 is so good I kept it even though I went full-frame. There's nothing else quite like it.

I liked my 43 best on APS-C, on FF it's tough to split the 31 and 77. They both came alive on full-frame.

I'm a little confused - the way you've explained it, it sounds like a minimum shutter speed.
