Question Unable to access WANTED item posts

I understand the request for donations if someone is buying or selling, but it just seems a little desperate to me to prevent LOOKING. For what it's worth, I was able to view the items for sale.

Nevertheless, if I must part with $10 just to see the "WANTED" postings, then I will do so in my next bill payment cycle. :-)

Peace be with you,

Hello Dear Readers

I wanted to browse in the "WANTED" section of the forum to see if anyone would be interested in purchasing my K-3 plus all lenses and accessories, such as the Battery Grip.

However, when I tried to read individual posts, I received an error message which I am going to attach a screen capture of to this post.

Can someone pleasehelp me and tell me how to fix it? I appreciate your kind attention to my problem and I look forward to and will await your reply.

Peace be with you,

Shooting "tethered" with K-3 and Flu Card?

Thank you for all the helpful posts of information! I really appreciate the thought that some of you put into your answers! :-) I think I am going to go with the HDMI cable suggestion, because it seems like the most straightforward and easy to use.

However, can someone please tell me how I can find what type of HDMI connector is on the camera? (I know I can look at it and see, but I need to know if it's a mini or micro or just plain regular HDMI.) I need this information so that I can buy the correct cable with the correct fittings on the ends.

Thank you all!!!

Shooting "tethered" with K-3 and Flu Card?

Hey Guys and Gals –

Thanks for all the input you all gave me!

The reason that I wanted to "tether" is so that my headshot and portrait clientele can see one of the better results, which would get them pumped up to do more and trust my vision and the direction that I am giving them.

As soon as I make enough money from my initial clients, I will be immediately getting a Canon 5D Mark III, or a Phase One.

If I had known what I now know about the profession, I would have started out with a 5D Mark II with a f/1.8 70-200mm lens. The f/5.6 that comes with the camera as a kit lens, which everyone told me would be a good starter lens is complete crap! F 5.6??? Come on! What kind of portrait or headshot am I gonna shoot with that? ;-)

Thanks for the help, again, I really appreciate it! Is there any way that I could shoot tethered, with an actual cable between the computer and the K-3?

Hello -

I am going to be getting into some studio photography in the near future. I have been watching training videos from the "masters", e.g., Sue Bryce and Peter Hurley, and I see them shooting tethered with a cable from their camera to the computer.

I would like to know if I shoot with a Flu Card in my K-3, will that card "tether" to my computer, using software such as Lightroom, which I KNOW has the ability of tethering, or Capture One?

Please let me know your thoughts and opinions on this. I appreciate your kind consideration of my question.

Thanks! :-)

Thanks, Not a Number! I will definitely consider one of those as an option, probably buying it before the $35 OME-3.

Will my K-3 lens work with the anticipated full frame?

Hello to all and thanks for the input and advice! The reason that I did not purchase Canon 6D is because of financial reasons, and I was told the IQ of the K-3 would be good enough for the enlargements that I wanted to make. So, unless you're willing to give me a 645, I don't think that is an option. Don't they run about three to $4000? That's just to start right?

Based on input and opinion, I'm considering buying the following lens from Amazon for about $100.

Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 lens for Pentax DSLR Cameras

Will this lens do what I want? At this point I'm not too concerned about it being compatible with a potential Pentax full frame because it's only $100 lens, which to me although a significant amount is affordable enough for now. Also, I don't consider the K-3 a wasted purchase if I get the Pentax full frame, because I'm told by many photographers that they carry multiple cameras for backup and sometimes certain photographers use both the full frame and crop sensors in their work.

P.S. The photo shown by link 81 is exactly what I'm looking for! Sharp eyes but not much else.

Thanks for all the input!

Although I am now very, very confused by the various opinions and facts, my budget is about $100 so I am thinking about this lens which I can get from Amazon for about $100.

Pentax DA 50mm f1.8 lens for Pentax DSLR Cameras

Will this do what I want? I'm thinking that if the aperture is stopped down to f/1.8, then I will still be able to use a relatively fast shutter speed indoors for handholding my camera. Is that correct?

Also, FWIW, I have an 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, not the 18-55, and it is so bulky that I don't want to take it with me to places like my doctors and dentists because I don't want to be a lug. I will be taking pictures in small exam rooms and, like I said, I want as shallow depth of field, which is different than sharpness, which I also want. I also want to be as discreet as one can with a DSLR! :)

I am now just asking if I have all the correct letters and numbers on this potential lens. I'm very new to Pentax photography, and have yet to learn all of the codes of the lenses. I do know that SMC = Super Multi Coating, but the DA, FA, I am stumped!

Thanks guys (and gals, if there are any)!

Thanks you guys! My budget is kinda low, so I need something affordable. I want as little of the background in focus as possible, and I will be close to the subject so I don't THINK that a ZOOM would be good to point in their face! :) Given these parameters, can you please give me some specific lenses? I get so confused with all these naming and numbering conventions! Thank you!

Thanks, rawr and Canada_Rockies!!! I appreciate the helpful information. For what it is worth, here is what I would like to shoot and print:

I know a lot of the cashiers at the stores that I frequent, and I would like to take their portraits, as well as those of the workers in my dentist and doctor offices. Since these will be in tight spaces, I need a lens that can handle the closeness. As well, I want a good bokeh and very, very shallow depth of field. I want only the eyes and face to be in focus!

As far as prints go, I imagine having mine hung in a gallery space at some point. So, I need to be able to enlarge to gallery size, or larger if I sell a print and someone wants a big enlargement.

It is for these reasons -- shallow DOF and potentially big enlargements -- as well as my subject matter: portraits, for which I think that a FF would be better. Also, if a friend ever asked me to do a wedding, I am told that brides know to ask if your camera is full frame or not, so I want to be prepared for ANYTHING! :-)

P.S. Is a Pentax FF available NOW? I thought that it was not. Please advise! Thanks!

Hello --

I have a K-3 with only the crappy (slow) kit lens, and I would like to take portraits of people that I meet while I am out and about, like a grocery store cashier, or people at my dentist and doctor offices. Since these will be taken inside a small space usually, like an office or treatment room, I wanted to know which lens I should get that has a fast aperture, good bokeh, and very shallow depth of field?

Any advice that you can give in this regard is greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Hello --

I just got into serious digital photography with the purchase of a K-3. What I really wanted, however, was a Canon 6D Full Frame, but I settled for the K-3 because of the cost of the 6D.

Now, I am wondering: If I invest in lenses for my K-3, will they work with the hoped for Pentax Full Frame? Or are they crop sensor lenses only?

Please let me know if I should invest in any more Pentax equipment, or just wait for a Canon FF? Thanks! :)

Hello and thank you to everyone who took part in this discussion. Although I thought there was no hope, LarsW and aleonx3 brought it back with their helpful comments. A special thanks to LarsW and aleonx3 for that! I will definitely be purchasing the OME-3 for my camera in the near future. Thanks and thanks again! :)

Hello --

I am trying to figure out how I can "extend" the eyecup on my K-3. It is just a little too far away from my eye such that I cannot get a good look through it to take pictures.

I have looked at the O-ME53 and the K200D, but these seem like more of a magnification system and I cannot determine if they put the viewfinder eyecup farther away from the camera, which is what I need.

I want to maintain the rectangular aspect ratio of the current viewfinder eyecup with anything that I replace it with. As I said in my post title, I simply want to "extend" it -- or have it protrude more from the camera, if you will. Can you please help me find the right solution?

Thanks so much for your thoughts! :)

From the get go, I had no idea what these were even called by name. That is why I was not able to do my own Google search for them. Now that I have reviewed all the options, it seems that the eBay one from GameGearWarehouse is the best way to go. The only thing that could make this set up better would be to have daylight CFLs. Thanks @crewl1 for that link! :)

Hello --

I hope that you can help me. I am trying to find out where I could get inexpensively, or make somehow, a "mini studio" for photographing products that I wish to sell on eBay?

I don't know the exact name of it, so I cannot search for it, but what I am looking for is a small cube of about 24 inches, with the "walls" being white, or other neutral color, and then a place for the camera to "peek in" and take the picture of the item, and maybe a few led lights in the cube for lighting.

Can you please help me figure out the name of this type of apparatus, and how I can make or buy one inexpensively? Even better, if you could provide me with some links to actual products!

Thank you so much!

Today, I took the camera and lens into a camera shop. There, I determined that it was the lens and not the camera.

@wizofoz
Can you recommend a specific lens from a specific place to buy it where I could get a lens for $20 or so?

Thank you very much for any help you can give me. :)

Thanks, wizofoz, but I do understand the basics of the camera operation. It just has so many functions that I wanted some advice as to what means what, and what a suggested setting is for all of the options-- that's why I started taking a class.

It seems that Steve has hit the nail on the head and solved the problem. Now I just need to get it repaired.

Take good care,

~Antonio

Thank you, Stevebrot. That is the problem, then. The lever is not opening and closing the diaphragm. I found a guy named Eric mentioned here on the forum, so I was thinking about sending it to him.
