Well by now everyone knows that Pentax came out with a medium format. They did not come out with a replacement for the K-7 yet. The K-x appears to be selling really well and is a sharp little camera. High or Low may be Pentax's nitch in this camera world. It should also be noted that the two big guys did not come out with replacements unless you consider Canon's 7D a replacement but it doesn't appear to be being pitted against the 50D. They all came out with some inexpensive entry level cameras. My opinion is they will all take a wait-and-see approach to the economy. I was really hoping for a FF. I ownd the K-10, K-20, K-7, and K-x. Great pictures generated from the K-20. Camera with the best functioning options for me is the K-7. With all this said I broke down and bought a Nikon D700 FF because I did not want to wait for Pentax to come out with one. So far the Nikon 700D is pretty amazing but I still love my Pentax camera's and carry the K-7 with me as my walk-around-camera. O and I own just about all the Pentax lenses so I won't be getting rid of my Pentax cameras anytime soon.

K-7 Firmware Update-Help

Thanks everyone for your help. FYI: The Read Me file states that if the batteries run out during a firmware update the camera will shut off and the owner will have to send it in at the owners expense. What this means is I need to plan on sending this camera in because the batteries will go dead and it will shut off. At least I have two other cameras to use.

I am doing a firmware update for my K7. I followed the readme file, downloaded to my descktop and then copied only firmware, not readme file to SD card. Inserted into camera, held down menu button while turning on camera. It display fireware 1.03 I clicked on yes to update, it is showing Updating and underneith that it says PHASE 1/2 and a white box under that. The Readme file said it should only take 90 sec. to complete. It has been in the state I just mentioned for at least five to ten minutes. What did I do wrong?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN FRAME WITHIN A FRAME? I HAVE SEVERAL DOUBLE EXPOSURES WHERE I HAVE TWO SUBJECTS FROM TWO SEPERATE PHOTO MERGED INTO THE SAME FRAME. DOES THAT COUNT?

OK, NEVER MIND I LOOKED AT SOME FRAME IN FRAME FROM A PREVIOUS YEAR AND I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT.

Pentax 12-24mm or DA 15mm Ltd. & DA 21mm Ltd.?

First I own a lot of Pentax Lenses most of them primes. I love the Pentax 12-24
f/4. I use it a lot for landscape shots. The pictures are very sharp. When I went to the Ozark National Scenic Riverwys to shot Greer Spring I had to hike over a mile down hill to get to the spring. The 12-24 let me carry fewer lenses and frame up or compose the shot to take in the area I wanted. I don't like changing lens. It just increases the potental for dust. I carry twin cameras one with a prime and one with a zoom. Check out my gallery at Michael's Photos--John Gilbert. go to Gallery I and click on Ozark Riverways and search for pictures of Alley Spring and Greer Spring. The price of the 12-24 has come down a lot since I bought it so save yourself some money and buy a great lens you won't regret it.

FA 50mm 1.4 question

First, I would call them and discuss the condition of the lens. It very well could have been a disply item. If you thought you were ordering new I would let them know that for sure.

I order extra back and front lens caps from Pentax Imaging. I always carry spares in my camera bag. Yes it my quest to get a shot I have dropped a cap and lost it.

Pentax K10D
10-17mm Fisheye Lens
f/8
Shutter Speed 1/4
ISO 100
Some Post Processing on the water. Even with a filter I couldn't stop down enough to get a slower shutter speed. I had climbed out on a rock with no equipment with me but the camera and tripod. I used a polarizer but should have used a nuetral density or two to get that cotton candy effect on the water. However I think it came out alright. What do you all think?

Description This picture was taken with a Pentax K20 using a Pentax 300mm f/4 lens with a 4x (2-stop) nuetral density filter. It was taken early in the morning around 8am. The sun was behind me. Used a tripod and exposed for 2 seconds. I used bracketing at 1stop intervals of under, normal, and over exposed. (The shutter speed varies with exposure) I merged the 3 frames together using Photomatrix Pro III. (This is a most have software and can be purchased for $99 to NAPP members.) Bracketing takes landscape photography to a whole new level. I am amazed at the end results. Your opinions are welcome.

Kevin, I have been using the Pentax 18-250 for the past eight months. I love this lens and carry it with me always. It is so versatile. I get great pictures with it but you can get some vignetting at 250mm in low light. I have taken pixs with this lens in the early morning and late at night. By Increasing your ISO you can compensate for low light. Back off a little at 18 mm and 250 mm, ie 18.5 to 19 and the low end and 245 to 240 at the high end. Overall I would buy this lens again and highly recommend it. Now one more thing get the Pentax 50mm f/1.4 cost is $299 but it does great shots indoors WITHOUT a flash. I used it once to take pictures in Museum and was very pleased with the results. Good Luck!

Hello everyone! I am new to photography although I did try it once years and years ago. Three years ago I took my first vacation and wanted to capture what I saw. My very first vacation was to Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Custer's Last Stand, Big Horn Mountains, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and back home. We traveled over 4,000 miles by car. My camera on this trip was a Sony Camcorder. The following year a Sony Point and Shoot and the Camcorder and on to Glacier National Park and 5,000 miles round trip by car. The pictures were very good and in some cases great but I wanted more and so my friend and I joined a class and I was on my road to cameras, lenses, and trips. Third year was a Caribbean Cruise. Fantastic pictures and sunsets and o my gosh all that food. This past winter we have been to the Smokey Mountains and the Memphis Zoo. I posted a pix on the gallery titled “Eye of the Cat”. Next trip, back to the Smokey’s this May and then to Colorado in July. I use Pentax cameras K10 and K20. Several Pentax lenses and Sigma lenses as well. I have gotten into Photoshop CS4 and love what I can do to post processing. I am not into the exotic stuff just raw adjustments, and layers and masks for sharpness and contrast. I enjoy the magnificent pictures people from around the world take and post for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
