I agree that the Pentaxian Facebook group seems to be a more pleasant place these days.

It is true, PF is edging to DPR type vibe these days and this is sad.

Second hand Sigma 70-200 HSM II if you can find it.

I have it and love it except for the 1.4 kilograms.

Wireless triggers with P-TTL cababilities?

If I were you I'd go Godox if you have enough money.

I used to have a number of Cactus triggers but have got rid of them bar one V6II. I've kept this as I can then use my Pentax flash on pretty much any brand camera and still have ttl.

I don't particularly like Cactus mainly because of having to charge so many AA batteries.

If you have a two flash system it's four AA's for each flash, two AA's for each transceiver so it's 14 AA's required to be charged and ready for a two flash setup.

The lithium-ion batteries are great in the Godox setup.

You should also consider the V1 as that is available as a native Godox Pentax flash.

I have a Godox Ad200 and two Godox 850's. The 850's are manual flashes but do do hss and are still able to be controlled by the X-Pro-P trigger.

You are permitted up to 200mm maximum. The Sigma is a large lens, 1.4kg but I am prepared and always point directly at the 200mm. The bag check people aren't photographers so initially always think the lens isn't permitted.

I pretty much go every year. The appearance of DSLR or mirrorless cameras is becoming rarer and rarer. People are content with their phone camera's.

K-3 and P TTL vs TTL

Well you can shoot in (A) mode with the FGZ560 Mark I not II if you don't want pre-flash. (A) mode is also kind of auto-exposure so its not pure manual.

There are older flashes with (A) that are likely very cheap on eBay. I have a Nikon SB-28 or SB-25 that is useful for this type of purpose and works with a K3. If you go down this path just do your research to buy the correct flash for your needs. A 2nd hand Pentax FGZ560 would be good for this as you still have a P-TTL when you need it and (A)uto-thyristor mode when you want to use that. Note the Mark II has lost (A) mode.

Sales people also like the 'easy sell' and that is Canon.

I fully understand this. If I was a salesperson it's very easy to sell a Canon to a newbie.

I've first hand experience of the waxy skin with an X-E1.

Fujifilm also apply a high contrast curve that reviewers seem to love but loses detail.

I am still not convinced about X-trans.

They are nice looking cameras though.

Get yourself a 2nd hand one for as cheap as possible and convert to screwdrive. You lose silent AF but this lens is stellar so at the right price is worth it. It's also WR.

Nikon mirrorless compared to Nikon DSLR? Q&A

Well, buying first generation is a bit silly if you ask me. Pay a premium to be a tester for the brand.

It took Fujifilm 3 generations to get decent autofocus.

I think some people bought into the hype, especially by the likes of Dpreview who seemed to be doing free promo's for the Nikon Z and Canon R rather than being a review sight.

Nikon Dropping 1/3 of their DSLR line-up in move to Mirrorless

Mirrorless will take over eventually but some people will always prefer an OVF.

Nikon should have moved quicker to get a headstart on Canon. They moved too slow. At least they moved at the same time.

If I was going full frame mirrorless I would prefer Nikon over Canon though for the built in image stabilisation and Sony sensor.

If you want more powerful lights, the Godox Xpro-P with AD200, Ad400 or AD600 would be what I would choose.

If you are shooting outside use the sun to backlight your model and your strobe from the front.

You'll also find having the XPro-P handy so you can shoot in ttl mode and can focus on posing and not worrying about exposure.

I am pretty sure you can now use a Godox X-Pro P trigger and say a Godox AD200 and shoot high speed sync now to shoot at higher sync speeds.

No work around needed.

My experience of Faststone is it's great if your white balance is close to correct.

However it does not include control of white balance which is it's great weakness. I've used it for years and am surprised they have never added control of white balance.

Still one of my favourite pieces of software though.

If you are truly keen on macro get the Tamron 90mm macro second hand. Won't break the bank and has immaculate image quality.

Work out if you like evf especially in bright sunlight where lot's of the evfs currently let in too much stray light as the eyecups on the evfs are too small.

It's expensive for an APS-C camera but Fujifilm gets away with it.

At that kind of price I'd go for the GR II.

11-18 and revamped 35mm F2 on january 31?

I wouldn't jump to Fujifilm just yet. Their colours while lauded by reviewers are fake looking, ie, not true to life and their lenses are still quite large and some pretty heavy. I think m43's is better if you are looking to downsize.

The 11-18mm is welcome and the HD FA 35mm F2 is also welcome albeit pretty underwhelming. Really new lenses should be coming with built-in motors.

I have the FA 35 F2 already and have to admit new coatings are probably a good idea. It's colours are definitely old school compared to the DA primes. Rounded aperture blades if they've changed them would also be a good idea.
