A Simple "Thank You" Would Be Nice!

Iíll add to my prior post that I have received over 2,000 Likes since Iíve been a member, and those are all on comments. I donít post images. I have tended to Quote and comment in the thread, but since this post Iíve paid a lot more attention to giving Likes. I have no idea whether the Poster whose Post i ĎLikedí Knows I did, but I get a notification when one of my comments receives one.

As I was typing this, someone upthread Liked my prior comment. There is some kind of serendipity going on here.

There are a few dozen members whose posts I actively seek to read. You’re on the list. This community is just different because most of us give away freely whatever skill or experience we have.

If I had to choose, I would rather someone I helped would then turn around and help someone else than thank me and not pay it forward

But both would be better.

TYVM for being here.

It’s really a Jimmy Stewart movie with part of John Wayne’s ensemble cast - one of our faves. We have most of the best 50 on Blu-Ray or DVD. My wife watched all of Bullitt for the first time tonight and she said - now that she’s seen the first twenty minutes so it makes sense - it’s a pretty good movie. S McQ is another of our fave actors.

Bullitt ended 2 minutes ago - Steve McQueen week on TCM. Starting The Sand Pebbles. @17Dew I considered putting LibertyValance in my What About? List above. It should go in place of Butch Cassidy, but that’s why I wrote there are probably 50 Best Westerns and selecting 10 is subjective.

John Wayne is Westerns. Of course the Searchers in on the list - it has to be on an imaging-oriented site, if only for the iconic ‘backlit through the door’ shot. But I have to ask: Where are - in no particular order
  • True Grit?

  • Butch Cassidy (not that it’s a great film, but it is an icon).

  • Shane?

  • My Darling Clementine?

  • Red River?

  • High Noon?

  • The Professionals?

  • The Magnificent Seven? (From Seven Samauri - Akiro Kurosawa) and possibly the best movie score of all time

  • Stage Coach?

  • The John Ford Trilogy? He invented the art form, and the cinematography and light are outstanding!

Someone else can take it from here.

IIRC the progression of incidents correctly, once stacking Girl Scout Thin Mints was established as a transferable lens length estimation process a certain member proposed the label Standard Measuring Unit (“SMU”). In that post the certain member also proposed acceptance of Alternative Measuring Units (“AMU”), as established.

Leibniz-Keks, it seems to me, are acceptably precise with regard to lens length estimates such that they be certified as an AMU.

So moved.

Now go ask Parallax about polishing his new lens. :D

Everyone has their price. There’s a scratched (Transparent) Store Demonstrator F35~70 on eBay @ $700. I have the matching transparent SF-1 but I won’t pay $700 for a shelf Queen lens.

Selling my Pentax System, going to ____________________

Most of those Buh Bye posts are just talkin’ smack, the ‘in your face’ style of communication more commonly used by people born in the last 35 or 40 years. Though coarse, thoughtless and impolite, It doesn’t really mean anything serious.

People who come back time and again infecting threads and proselytizing another system (I can think of a Sony preacher who I believe was eventually banned) often have some external ‘motivation’.

The people I don’t understand are the ones we know, who keep coming back, arguing the same points over and over - and they’re still wrong.

This is a very nice 28 - perhaps the best of the 28’s offered by Pentax aside from the K28/2 Hollywood. IMO generally the F series lenses are somewhat tighter and more robust than the FA lenses, and this one is often preferred over the FA. For all the K-1 owners lamenting lack of a medium wide lens this is a suitable candidate.

Thank you!

Heh! Uhm, yes he can. He just did. :D

Just use your brains everyone. What sense would it make for a company that’s about to shut it’s doors to release a steady stream of new products, some of them highly proprietary, original and covered by multiple patents?

We need to stop impressing the Canon, (failing) Nikon, and Sony business models on Pentax. Pentax is different. Let them be different. Enjoy being different yourselves.

And if you can’t do that - stop making us miserable and just move the heck on.

For once Iíve used my head and not let my heart rule my purchase decisions. Rather than buying a Mkll and selling Mkl, I waited. Iíve decided that as soon as Precision re-opens the window Iíll have my K-1 upgraded, and start the (long) process of selling the excess gear Iíve collected and fully using the stuff I keep.

Oddly enough, this whole DPR mess has made me think about my Pentax collection and also think before commenting. I donít understand whatís going on at DPR. It just doesnít feel rational; the obvious potential implication that there could be active, intentional sabotage doesnít feel likely either - why bother with that?

So I choose to ignore it and go about my business with K-1 (ll) and (mostly) manual lenses as if I never knew DPR existed. The daylillies are blooming, my grandchildren are growing and Colorado is as full of beautiful vistas as Virginia. As much as they might seem to want to, DPR canít change that.

My father had a Ď63 Impala convertible with bucket seats and the floor shifter for the auto trans - and a third monaural speaker in the center of the rear bench seat. It was red over black with a black top and had SS wheelcovers WITH the center dome that clicked. IIRC it was a 327. In what I viewed (and still do) as a particularly cruel move, he sold that car when I was 15 3/4 years old.

That is incorrect. The .bin file must be outside the DCIM folder. The Root Directory is outside all folders.

@tcwilson Check to be sure there is not a Ď2í appended to the File name. That happens if you extract the .zip file twice or if you already had the previous FW update in your Download folder when you extracted. The FW updates all use the same filename.

What's your favourite vintage / film-era manual focus lens, and why?

In my experience the only change between the versions was the naming convention, from SMC PENTAX 1:1.2/50 (1975-1977) to smc PENTAX 1:1.2 50mm (1977-1981). The change brought the naming convention In Line with the new M-series (and subsequent) lenses. I do not believe there was a formula change or a material coatings* change between versions.

* I own a late version 2 (highest Serial Nr. in the database) and it renders slightly warmer than M and A 50ís, as does my K50/1.4. Phil @gofour3 is better informed on K lenses than I though.

Why would somebody buy the DFA28-105?
Posted By monochrome

I originally bought the 28-105 as my ‘kit’ lens when I bought my K-1. It is very light, compact and produces 90% of the 24-70 IQ when I don’t need f/2.8. Frankly, I rarely start wider than f/5.6 anyway, so why do I need the 24-70? :D

The 28-105 is such a good value for IQ to price that I started carrying it with the KP when I just want to carry a camera over my shoulder (no bag with 21-40-70 along) and be opportunistic. I can do almost anything from grab shots to carefully exposed portraits with a single lens. I don’t feel the need to buy a DA zoom for the KP. The 28-105 covers my needs.

Be sure to find the tripod foot if you plan to use a heavy lens that doesn’t have one. It’s the one intended for the DA*300. Imagine mounting your Q-S1 to your tripod and then hanging your adapter with your Tak500/4.5 off the tiny Q mount and tripod socket of your camera (if it lacked a foot).

SmugMug Swallows Flickr

SmugMug would need to buy or lease and set up massive quantities of new storage servers. It would make more sense to just buy (or assume the leases for) flickr’s servers, code a new back-end port from SmugMug and leave the files where they are.
