IR conversions

I had Spencer Camera convert my K-100 and loved their work. (https://www.spencerscamera.com/infrared-conversions.com). I was very impressed that they set the focusing to account for IR versus VIS light. This is particularly important for UWA lens. In fact I had to send my DA14mm along with the camera so that they could set it up right.

Thanks to all for great insight and comment...

So - the image below reflects a new 32GB SD card formatted on the 645D. It was shot for 30 seconds in the dark (with a lens cap on) and then pushed to +5ev in adobe camera raw. Yep something is there. However if the image is reduced to only +3 EV at 1600 ISO or +4 EV at 800 ISO, it is no longer visible. It is also not visible at +5EV for ISO 400, 200 and 100.

In addition no artifacts were apparent during the second test (i.e., lighted frames).

So, given the frequency of pushing images to +5 or 4-5EV at either ISO 1600 or 800 am trending on keeping the camera.

But, I always appreciate the insight offered from you folks, so what do you think (and I will not hold you accountable).

And finally, thanks for all the great insight into the 645D. As a long time digital Pentax shooter (2006), I thought I knew most of it. Apparently not.

It only appears at 66 or 100% crop. What sort of sad card could cause that?

---------- Post added 02-17-2021 at 06:03 PM ----------

Also it is 1600 ISO.

Trying out a used 645D for purchase. What do you think is the line pointed out in the photo? A bad line of pixels or something else. Many thanks! (Lens Manual Focus 55mm Pentax)...

Great thread. I'm wrestling with a similar issue. While I currently shoot with a K1, I'm seriously considering picking up a Pentax 645D. A bigger CCD sensor.

A word of thanks to Uncle Vanya.

Not only did he successfully convert my DA300mm from a failed SDM to a working screwdriver motor, but also when the return package was lost in the mail (drat Christmas time), he showed the appropriate level of concern by both filing for a lost package and keeping me updated on the process. So a true winning experience from door to door. cdurfor

Its not cheap, but it does allow for battery elimination. The only problem is the 1,000 image limit with the internal intervolmeter.

PS - I find that if you shut of the back screen review (to save battery life), I can get up to 5 hours of time lapse photography. (One photo ever 30 seconds.)...

Time lapse for 3D printer using K-01?

Great question. K01 is my standard time lapse camera, because (correct me if I'm wrong) but unlike may DSLRs the K01 has an electronic shutter. Thus, shooting 1,000 to 5k images for a run will not cause early breakage of a mechanical shutter. Also you can purchase a battery eliminator so that you don't have to keep changing batteries. The one problem is that you are limited to 1,000 shots before you must reset the camera.

Meshroom photogrammetry

With regard to Metashape, the Obj and still files may be used with a 3D printer. However, the demo version of Metashape cannot export files. The other issue is some manipulation of Stl and obj files maybe required to make them water tight. So yes it can be done, however it may not be straightforward.

Meshroom photogrammetry

Many thanks for this suggestion. As someone who is also beginning photogrammetry, I can attest that it is both fun and an intellectual challenge. I took a quick look at Meshroom and unfortunately they do not have a Mac version. Bummer. An alternative for Mac is Metashape by Agisoft. Agisoft Metashape

While the Metashape software is not cheap, you can download a demo version that does much of the full software program, with the exception of saving the output. Therefore on a mac, I run the program to evalaute my photo collection technique and then screen shot the result to document the work.

An example of one of my projects (The Church Tower at Historic Jamestown) is below.

Is it just me or do others find that you must stop down to f8 to obtain acceptable sharpness?
