OK, semi-expert here. As an apprentice, we played around a lot with micrometers in the English system. Human hair is generally agreed to be about .003 in thickness, but it varies from person to person and even from location to location. For example, the hair from a beard can be quite a bit thicker than hair from your arm.

Reminds me of high school - and this was back in the late 60's. Of course you couldn't smoke in school (except the teachers in their lounge), so you'd see kids before school and during lunch standing across the street smoking. Yeah, I was one of them. With the war in Vietnam raging over my head, along with teenage hormones running amok, lung cancer was the furthest thing from my mind. But I quit at 23 when our first child was born in the hopes that she wouldn't emulate her old man. And while that didn't work out as planned, I haven't smoked since. Except a couple of times when I was on fire. Welding can do that!

K-1 available on eBay

I have bought a lot of things from eBay and was only stung once (pre-PayPal era, so no relief there). Lesson learned: if a seller has any complaints, the red flag goes up. Thus, the complaint is checked into. No matter how good a seller is, especially dealers who sell a lot of items, there are bound to be a complaint here or there. If the seller has a lot of dealings and someone complains for something moronic, I ignore the complaint. On the other hand, if there are more than one complaints, especially if a theme is evident, like the item was broken when received or the seller never responded to problem, I mark them off and move on. If I recall, this seller has had something like a dozen complaints in the last 12 months. No thanks!! :(

My father's uncle received the prostrate cancer diagnose when he was 80. The Dr. laid out the options for treatment. Unc told the Dr. he was 80 years old, was satisfied with his time on earth, was eager to see his wife again (she had passed a few years before), and wasn't going to do anything about the cancer. Darn stuff killed him just shy of his 102 birthday. :D I hope your outcome is similar.

Nazi Sub in the Great Lakes?

Speaking of subs and their main weapon, the torpedo, here's an interesting factoid for you. During WWII, the government financed the building of several plants in key areas to build weaponry. One of those areas was my old home town of Pontiac, Michigan. Two plants were built there: a gun plant that produced the well known Ma Duce .50 caliber machine gun and a second plant to build torpedoes. Here's where it gets a bit interesting, if not somewhat morbid. The walls of the torpedo plant were comprised of three foot brick and cement up to a height of about 7 feet, and single pane glass panels the rest of the way up - maybe 14 feet. The idea was should the building ever be bombed, or far more likely, should one of the torpedoes ever explode, the windows would blow out, preserving the walls for a rapid rebuild. Of course I'm sure that was a great relief to the workers inside. :D

American English question

Indeed. The bail out cost the country (aka taxpayers) far less money than if GM and Chrysler had been allowed to fail. Furthermore, much, perhaps most of the money lent has been paid back, something that never would have happened if GM and Chrysler had closed. How much money did the Wall Street banks pay back on their bail out? Here's a pretty reasonable accounting: How did the taxpayer make out on the Wall Street Bailout?

From the Motor City capital of the world: the two front wheel enclosures are fenders, while the rear two are quarter panels. Originally, when cars had individual fenders, the term was applicable to either end, but as styling changed and the rear fenders became incorporated into the body as opposed to an added unit, they became known as quarter panels. This incorporation didn't happen with the front, and the fenders remained so named.

USPS Strikes Again

That is a phenomenal number. To put it in to prospective, of the USPO were successful 99.999% of the time, which is pretty impressive by any measurement, that would still leave out 1.5 million packages or pieces of mail lost or stolen.

My only complaint: why can't 1.5 million be junk mail and political fliers? :D

Norton is good, don't get me wrong as I use it too, but it's also a number one target of hackers, so always run at least one additional form of protection, I too use Malware and it runs every time I start the computer. IE, which used to be the king of browsers is also the number one target of hackers, so consider using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome.

So far, 99% of Marketplace issues are created by people who don't read the rules, which are posted at the top of the Marketplace, and aren't that complicated. The rules are in place to help keep members from getting ripped off, to prevent spammers from stepping in, and to give sellers a audience of buyers who are interested in their items. If a seller has a question about a rule, they can always PM a moderator or ask the forum help section, which, BTW is where this thread belongs and has been moved to.

Good luck with that. I've reported a few items on eBay for various rule violations, including stealing copyrighted photos, and they've never done a thing so I gave up. :(

Pelican case 1514 Amazon$150

I used to use Pelicans when I was working and traveled a lot. They are as close to indestructible as you can get. I still have a couple left that I use occasionally. You won't be disappointed. I bought some 3" stencils at the local hardware and painted my name in white on the travel ones. I could spot them a mile away at any airport luggage claim. :) Later on, when I retired and sold one, a little thinner took the paint right off. ;)
