Moby Music video - k7 in some shots

Thank you Mystic!
Yes it is very shaky. The camera was on a tripod, but it was very dificult to stay still the subject, because of very high magnification.

I used premiere for editing,
after effects for compositing and 2d graphics,
cinema 4d for 3d graphics,
and mocha for tracking, so the graphics can "Shake" the same way of the footage.

Hi Pentaxian friends,

I would like to share with you a music video that i made for a challenge called "Hello Future". It is a music video for Moby's "Be the one", from the new album.
I hope i can fit the 10 finalists with my entry:

Some of the video was recorded with a Pentax K-7 (the nature in the memory part).

Hope you like it! If you have a vimeo account, feel free to drop a comment there, and give a "like" if you like the video!!!

Thank you everyone!

Thank you very much TheoSixx!!!
I will transcribe all the answers to my thesis, and yours was encouraging!
I agree with you about the necessity of more objects in the city, to get more detail. As After effects is not a real 3d software, all that photos of buildings and roads placed in “3d comps” were very consuming for the computer. I was working in this project everyday at night and going to sleep praying for the computer don’t crash during the renders until morning. That particular city scene crashed about 4 times in 5. So I have to keep it simple sometimes. The room the same thing. The boxes also. By the way, the boxes were 6 images positioned together to make a cube. If it was done now I will do it in a real 3d environment, as I’m learning a little of Cinema 4d. I will helped with real lightning and shadows, that don’t exist.
I hope to have more comments of the rest of the people!
Thank you very very much!!!

Hi to all Pentaxian friends,

Between 2008 and 2009 I created with 3 friends, a web series called "Carne p'ra Canhão", translating to english: "Cannon Fodder" or "Meat for Cannon".

This series was filmed entirely in chromakey, and the actors were placed in virtual scenography. This scenography was all made of photographs, done with my old pentax k100d, which i'm still using sometimes. The photographs were post processed in after effects, positioned in 3d space. But there's no 3d geometry, all that you see in the screen are photographs, placed in perspective: objects, walls, car miniatures, buildings, roads, lamps... they're all just plain photos.

I want to share with you this to invite you all to participate in my research thesis about virtual scenography. It is very simple, you just have to watch the full episode and answer the questions in the vimeo comments page! Later I will transcribe the answers to my thesis, like an opinion gathering about the scenography of this series.
If you don't have vimeo account, you can answer the questions here, and i will transcribe it later to my paper thesis.

Here follow the questions:
1: Do you work in Video/Film/Animation/Photography?
In which role?

2: Have you ever worked with a project that involved Virtual Scenography?

3: How do you classify the Virtual Scenography of this episode?
a: Very Good |b: Good | c: Regular | d: Bad | e: Very Bad

4: Please comment freely about what you like and don’t like in the Virtual Scenography of this episode of “Carne p’ra Canhão”. (please comment only about the scenography)

Thanks for watching...and many many thanks if you're going to participate!!!

See you soon!

I really hope that Pentax invest a little more in the video field.
Pentax and sony have a big advantage in this territory... sensor stabilization.

The only problem with the full frame is the small aperture lever in the back of the lens that may collide with the mirror of the camera. If you cut it...your ready to go! :D

Thank you Adam and Bob for the comments.
It was filmed with 550d, it was impossible to do that movie with a k-7, because of the lack of manual controls... I have a k-7 for some months, and it gives me terrible flickerings in artificial lights, because it operates as 1/60 shutter speed almost of the time and the electricity operates at 50Hz in europe.
I really would like to stay with Pentax, so i propose full manual controls for the next body, and 25p for people in europe.

Hi to all Pentax friends,

I would like to share my new music video, for "Johnwaynes".

It was partially shooted with pentax K 50mm 1.4, and some old Zenitar 16mm 2,8, a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and Sigma 30mm 1.4.

Unfortunetly i'm not a Pentax camera user anymore, i got to sell my k-7 to get a 550d, to make movies...
It is in good hands for sure, of Rui Caldeira (Rui C, site supporter of this forum)
I really miss this k-7, as a photo camera, but as a movie camera it has some major flaws: no manual controls, no 25p for Pal people in europe like me... But God, how i miss image stabilization....!!!

I hope i'm with Pentax some day soon, as it it my prefered brand.
Pentax....please make next body with manual controls, full HD with selectable frame rates with 25p on it....

See you soon, hope you like it!

Yes, all hand held with SR.
One think that helps to looks smooth is the fact that it was recorded at 30 fps and interpreted at 25fps in the timeline, so it gives a 20% time slower.

The old Pentax lenses are fantastic, and the ability to use them in modern DSLR cameras is a big plus, that's why i choose Pentax over Canon or Nikon.

Thanks Urkeldeadalus! There's more to come :D
Yes, i considered the k-x. The k-7 is really noisy, even at f1.4. Not being able to control shutter and iso is really a pain. Let's see what Pentax is giving us this year.
The Pentax files are far better to work than canon's, and the shake reduction is a gift from heaven! Pentax can win the war if they want... :D

Thanks!! i really like the feel of the k-7. It doesn't have the compression artifacts the canons have. It's more analog, doesn't feel so digital.

But in other way, we don't have manual controls... it's a pain doing indoor lights, we don't know when the picture is going to strobe... in Pal land we have 50hz, so the shutter must be at 1/25 or 1/50. When do we have that blessed firmware???

Just the k-7, an old manual k 50mm 1.4, and in very few cases one 28mm 2.8.
Contrast all way down, saturation a little bit down, always lock the exposure.
In the interiors i put exposure down, because of the grain.

Edited in premiere for cutting, with magic bullet for grading.
After effects were used to erase some stuff, like other brands in the makeup scene.

Hi,

I like to share with the pentax people a commercial film made with the k-7.

Decenio | Spring.Summer10 | Making Of

The shooting was done using the k-7 and a regular video camera (a sony ex-1), and i ended up cutting almost only with the k-7...because of the cinematic look. Only the last sequence of the film is done with the Ex-1.

The video was converted to 25p (pal) by interpreting the footage as 25p and not 30p. This gives a little effect of slowmotion.

I would like to thanks Pentax and Beltrão Coelho in Portugal, for lending me the k-7 to do some experimentation and work!

Hope you like it!

I'm pretty shure that these problems are not from the lens.
I also use a k-50mm 1.4 and a A28mm 2.8 almost the time.
I also use a sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5, and get the nasty vertical thin lines in low light, with every lens.

You are using k-x or k-7?
I have a similar problem, but in vertical thin rows:
