For Sale: SDM to Screwdrive Conversions

SDM in my lightly-used DA*16-50 bit the dust christmas weekend. I had not used it for a few months, but it was acting up a little the last time I used it. It appears to be totally dead now. Thank you for offering this service. If I can't free up time to try the fix myself over this long weekend I will likely be sending it your way.

Ording from Adorama, upset with shipping department

I have packages shipped to my office, as there is always someone there to sign during regular delivery hours. My wife is an Amazon Prime junkie, and gets several packages a week shipped to our house. They are always left on the front stoop and the delivery service (USPS) never knocks. We live on a busy street and there is a bot of foot traffic on the sidewalk out front, so i am not a fan of this delivery style. Also, if it is raining them still do not bother knocking and have no qualms about setting the box down on the wet surface,

My orders from both Adorama and B&H have always gone to my office, and I have never had an issue with either of them.

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the work you put in tracking the lens sales prices. Although I kept my wallet closed this past week, I definitely took advantage the previous two years.

Wow! Definitely some beautiful shots there. You must have had to dedicate a lot of time to be in the right spots when the lighting at its best. Truly some shots of Rome unlike others I have seen in the past.

Nice photo of a very nice place to visit. We always try to hike through there at least once each trip. Are you there playing at the track?

If you have a chance, drive to Geneva at the north end of the lake. It's a picturesque place.

I'll have to admit I find it funny a mechanical engineer from Germany is driving an American car ;-)

Meeting up like that is what transforms a forum from just being for information to a place where there are people you know and like to hang out with.

razors, anybody use?

Yeah, that's the nice thing about a good straight razor. I hone on a leather strap but have not done any sharpening myself yet. I have a couple stones but need one that is a lot higher grit for finishing.

I got into this because I was already introduced to sharpening/ honing/ stropping with kitchen knives. The process of maintaining the edge and sharpening is not terribly difficult but you do need the right accessories. A few different grades of natural stones could easily eat up $1k.

razors, anybody use?

I switched to a double-edge safety razor a few years ago (a Merkur). The cost of consumables decreased dramatically, although no question there is an entry price. Of course when I decided to start trying out straight razors about 6 months later the 'entry price' climbed quite a bit, as I found vintage NOS as well as the world of custom makers.

I had a few slices with the DES when I first started; usually from the way I would initially press the razor against the cheek. But very minor stuff and not much worse than a disposable 'safety razor'. When I started using straight razors the blood started flowing a bit more :-) Although whenever I switch back to the DES razor now days I am always nick/ cut free. Using the straights helped my techniques with the DES razors. I still get a nick or two with the straights, though.

That was nice. I've avoided that place like the plague; your sequence may spark me to finally cough up the parking fee and check the place out.

It would not run for me on Windows 8 late last year; have not tried reinstalling since then. But looking at the Google Earth web site, it still only indicates Windows versions up through 7.

Just found this on their help forum from yesterday:!category-topic/earth/pc/Q2qootHyRUY Looks like it's still not Win8 ready.

Guess I should have gone with my other choice, as this one has not proven to be popular at all. My wife preferred this one though; mainly for the memories, I suspect. I like the colors and the simplicity, but should have at least cropped it on the left side. My other finalist had a lot more 'pop'.

Looks like a lot of $$$ equipment. But my eye is drawn to the stains from all of the roof leaks. Not a photographer issue; more of an occupational hazard at this viewer's end.

Sadly it's hard to get pics in St. Petersburg that are not full of wires like that. But I think they add something to this photo (a touch of realness vs looking too fantasy-like?). That's a great photo.

Great pics! Enjoy the manual focus while he is still relatively still :-) When our baby started crawling, he went into attack mode any time I pointed the camera at him. He's 14 months old now, and still does it. Most of the pics we take wind up being much lower in quality then the beautiful ones you have posted here.

Upgrade K10D to K5IIs?

I really like the feel and most of the ergonomics of my K10D, but I've had a K5IIs for 1-1/2 years now and the K10D rarely gets used. The K10D is easier to use (for me, at least), but overall I've been taking better pictures with the K5IIs, even though I'm still learning a lot of it's functions/ features.

Not so sure it is all due to computers, etc. as much as getting locked up in jail for letting your 6 year old wander around outside with no adult supervision. By today's standards my parents would have had their 3 kids taken away and put into foster homes.

I feel bad that my 1 year old will grow up in a much more restrictive world except where we are outside the US for vacation, etc.
