Are you suggesting there are no bad lenses? That a lens is a tool that can do the job within particular parameters? From the side notes it is obvious you are out standing in your field. Your photos might also support that.

Which lens to buy with a K-70

Good solid advice has been offered. My experience with the DA L 18-55 "kit lens" is that you will get adequate service if you keep it in the middle. I try to stay between 24 and 45mm, often just set it at 35mm and use my feet for adjustment. I would think the 18-135 might have the same characteristic and offer more "middle ground." Adam's advice on lens acquisition is very similar to what I have done and agree, it is a smart way to go.

K-70 with 18-135mm for less than $800?

You are quite right as to what you want to photograph. The 55-300 almost never leaves my camera. Today was a steam locomotive in the Colorado mountains. A couple of days ago it was prehistoric pueblos in the desert. Yet, it worked for flora and fauna in general. It would be a handicap for portrait, urban, and street photos (in general). It is after all a tool to get the results you want.

I have been using the K70 for over a year with the 18-55 kit, 16 mm rokinon, and 55-300 PLM. It has served very well for outdoor photography. It is my first DSLR and the learning curve was not too bad. Upon reflection (and money) I would have gone with the 18-135 based on reviews and opinions on this site.

Is there a bad Pentax camera?

My question, and perhaps I was not detailed enough, was a focus on the box systems and overall mechanics. I avoided lenses which, I believed, would have made the answers to wide ranging and complex. My understanding, limited I admit, is that images are a product of the lens and camera, glass being primary I would be interested in opinion(s) concerning the aspects of the box that contribute to photo quality if that does not bog down to much with various sensor size.

I was considering a personal review/thoughts of my first year with a K-70. A shortcoming would be I have no experience with any other DSLR. This in turn led to my question. Are there any Pentax models in production or recently discontinued that are, to be kind, less than adequate? If so, a short explanation. Please, no battles!

RULES:

Contest ends at midnight on June 23, 2019.

Any forum member may invent and post a caption for the photo as a reply in this thread.

All readers of the thread, including those posting captions are encouraged to vote for any and all of the captions they appreciate by "Liking" them using the Forum's LIKE feature ('thumbs up" turns green when clicked). At the end of the contest period, the host will count the votes and report who won. In the case of a tie, the Host will break the tie, but will not otherwise submit a caption or vote.

The winner will be notified ASAP by the current host by PM and posting the winner in this thread. The new Host should post a link in this thread to the new contest thread.

Submissions should be via text (no video or audio files) - any caption, limerick, motivational poem or verse or prose is permitted - whatever inspires you to describe the photo or catch attention. Contestants may submit more than one entry but it must be in a separate post for voting purposes.

IMPORTANT:

Even if you do not submit an entry, please "like" any postings you feel deserve it as this is how the winner is chosen. If you DO SUBMIT an entry, please also find an entry that you like among your competitors efforts and "like" at least one of them as well. Enter often, vote more often, and most importantly, HAVE FUN !!! Remember, you can 'vote' for more than one entry if you choose to do so.

If the image is too big for you, edit your account "Settings and Options" for a smaller display size.

Landscape photography (getting started)

There are many, maybe too many, You Tube videos about landscape photography. Most will have a promo about their "course" and/or workshops but will have a lot of info/opinion about composition, lighting, and a kit. I would not take anything on faith but rather use the ideas to test technique and as components to build your own way of getting it done.
