Video - introducing the K3iii

Actually, it is the other way round.

The APS-C format is a stress test for FF lenses as any of their imperfections are put under a 1.5x magnifying glass.

Yes, on the one hand, the APS-C format cherry-picks the best performing centre part of the image circle, but on the other hand, the higher enlargement needed (to get to the same output size) amplifies all optical aberrations, regardless of their nature.

Yes, an FF sensor will capture the weakest portions of the image circle of lenses, but again with less magnification and therefore in a more forgiving manner. Vignetting can be easily addressed in post-processing and very few genres require excellent resolution in image corners.

K3ii replacement

If people want a D500 equivalent then they should probably just get a D500. I've said before, but I would think Pentax would release a K3 II sequel that has two card slots, some improvement in auto focus, buffer of 35 to 40 RAW files, frame rate of somewhere between 8 and 9 fps and probably some bump in video specs. I hesitate to guess on video because while the market seems to expect 4K video at this price point, Pentax has not been very aggressive at adding top end video to their cameras.

Of course, it will have an accelerator chip and IBIS and astro tracer and improved pixel shift.

The goal is to have a camera that stands out versus others in the market -- not one that mimics an existing camera already out there.

At some point you realize she is always coming up with excuses when you see her out.. too busy to go out with you and isn't returning your calls.... shes gone, man. You can keep waiting for her to change her mind.. to come around.. but in her heart she is interested in D-FA and DA* things now.

LAOWA 25mm F2.8 2.5-5X ULTRA MACRO for K-mount

lenses like this look fun, but with no aperture lever there's no benefit to using it over a reversed 28mm lens.

if i put a reversed 28mm on the end of all my extension tubes (about 150mm), it's a little over 7:1. working distance for the dfa 50mm macro runs out a little over 3:1. maybe kaf4 will make it possible for an A setting for these kind of lenses... but afaik none of the (2:1, the mitakon 4:1) apertures communicate with any brand body.

I agree. A lot of the members here are waiting for an improved AF. I'm not a technical person but, from what I've observed faster AF is a double-edged sword. Pentax has to improve camera AF and lens AF. Majority of the Pentax lenses offered in APS-C format are kinda slow. I think there should also be updates on these lenses to improve AF performance. The new 55-300 is a good example. However, removing the aperture lever is making all other cameras obsolete. I bought my K-5II last February 2014. Because of this move, in just two years it became obsolete. It's cruel to people with older cameras if Pentax will no longer have lenses with aperture levers. But who knows? Maybe Pentax is right in doing this. We'll just have to wait and see.

Sigma 85mm F1.4 discontinued

Lovely shots, I have often thought of downsizing my Sigma 85mm f1.4 to the FA77, DA70 or D-FA100 Macro but not quite decided yet.

I would love a more compact portrait lens like the K85 or VL90 I used to have

There are a couple of things to mention here - magnification is the ratio between the size of the actual thing you're photographing and the image on the sensor. So if your bug is 5cm wide and it fills the sensor (which is about 2.4cm wide) you're getting a magnification of 1:2. An actual macro lens goes to 1:1 so you could get half the bug in one picture.

You would, however, have to get closer to the bug - it's a bigger magnification and a shorter lens (although I'm not sure how close you must be with the Raynox, maybe this won't change at all). With the 100mm, you need to be about 10cm away from whatever you're photographing.

As far as sharpness, the 100mm will be much sharper than the 50-200 with the Raynox or extension tubes. I had a chance to try the 50-200 with tubes and it was surprisingly good, but still nowhere near a macro lens.

That is one of the reasons why I'm currently waiting to see what they show.. that plus flippy screen, improved wifi, and AF system would make a nice upgrade over the K-3 II versus just buying the K-3 II.

We are in the situation we had a few years ago when the K-5 II was the current crop flagship, the K-30 was just released and had new features that the flagship didn't have.. until months later when the K-3 arrived.
