To everyone that replied to me as a new member-I gotta tell you guys...using a Pentax is the best feeling ever!I spend a lot of time now reading reviews of Pentax lenses and camera bodies.Sometimes I'm lured toward the micro four thirds route because using a small camera to capture street photos is appealing. But I just can't get over the great lens quality that Pentax offers and the sharp contrasts and vivid colors that I get even with my kit lens.
But now I'm going to expose myself as the ultimate newbie photographer. Each time I'm out on the streets of Portland or up in the mountains or fishing on a sun glinted river,I ask myself this question before I press the shutter button-shall I concentrate on aperture, shutter speed, rules of thirds, etc or shall I concentrate on what I am drawn to more?-the unique, singular, sometimes quirky aspect of the scene of life I'm looking at in that split second? My real aim is to tell a story within each photo that will captivate the viewer. But is this the right way?Or should I be technically motivated so that I can truly use these wonderful lenses?Sincerely,Gretchen

Thanks Matt...but i've got one more question. Is there any reason for me to consider a micro four thirds camera as an alternative to my big K100?I mean I walk around my city of Portland and see all kinds of stuff I wish I could photograph.Sometimes I think having a small camera, quick on the draw might be good for street photography. But I wonder about image quality that I might be giving up.Any opinion? And further my motivation in taking a picture is the story behind it,not necessarily the bokeh.Sincerely,Gretchen

Dear pentax people. The K100 is my first dslr and for the past six months I've thoroughly enjoyed my introduction into photography.I've been most interested in developing a point of view, telling a story....and then worrying about correct aperture, shutter speed, etc. This is probably the wrong way round but it has given my picture taking a great deal of excitement and energy.
If I find a picture I really like,I'll go develop it at a drugstore, never more than an 8x10 and feel good that something decent has appeared.I've also purchased a Tamron 28-105 and,Pentax 35mm lenses.
Lately though I've been looking at upgrading my camera and have been considering the K10.Do you guys think I need to do this?I love my camera but I want to push myself more and learn more.Any opinions would be appreciated.
Sincerely,Gretchen

Well after months of researching many different dslrs,I choose Pentax. It felt good to be part of a "niche" market.Sure I thought the touch screen technology of other cameras was cool and so was live view and tilting the screen and.....But I purchased a K100d and I'm so happy. For me it was all about the beautiful Pentax lenses.Sure I took the advice to stick with the 18-55mm kit lens while learning and since I'm a rank beginner,I've enjoyed it.
But after 6 months I couldn't help myself and ventured into another lens.I choose the 35mm and at $160,it has been a joy.
Finally I decided to extend the focal length and bought a Tamron 28-105 lens.Man I thought I was getting more and more adventurous and was grasping more photographic technique. But when I tried to use the shutter speed or use the scene modes the camera wouldn't respond.I've only been able to use the exposure compensation dial to change the aperture. What am I doing wrong?I need to find out because now I really want to get another lens of a bit higher order(and price),the Tamron 28-75mm.
To conclude,I am so glad I have a Pentax....and hope I live long enough to get good enough to know how to use Pentax primes. Most sincerely,Gretchen
