i have affinity, its a very involved program with a ton of capability. They have an impressive online tutorial library as well as a physical (read hard back) reference book and practice sessions detailing out various ways to enhance/correct photos. Overall i like it. Just wish i had more time to explore its capability.

Yep, any flash that has p-ttl capabilities. However, if the flash doesn't have high speed sync the high speed sync of the trigger won't work either.

Link to the manual I created in my google drive. You can view it, not sure if you can down load it though. Perhaps at least be able to print it anyway.

let me know if you need any help or have questions.

I saw this in 2 posts regarding the Acon R930 triggers ( I have a set, they work nice) and thought I would post is in the mains section as its own thread so its easy to search and find if anyone is interested.

Also, I took the time to "translate" their English manual into something that I could understand, it has also helped some others with the triggers as well. I am happy to send it to anyone who would like a copy if would help them decide between these and something else.

this is their new website.

Pentax AF360FGZ not zooming....

Ok so I found my pics of the af 540 FGZ flash head. I have circled the zoom motor assembly (which is black unfortunately....) but you can look close and see the screw drive right of center and the shiny rails the strobe rides on on both sides. Check to make sure all these items are straight and not binding. And again, watch out for the wires that connect to the strobe, and the wires (black and red) that go from inside the body of the flash to the strobe circuit board.

Focusing Screens, Again

Yep, This again.

I have been looking through the forums and have come across a wealth of information about what the focusing screen replacements effect, however most seem to be sticking with the K3 or S-type screens.

Has anyone tried the Ec-L with Grid focusing screen from focusingscreens.com? How well does it work?

Should I expect the same negative effects of the S-type on metering and P-TTL use when using the Ec-L with Grid type?

It also sounds like there may be a work around for the metering by simply not utilizing spot metering Is this correct or am I misinterpreting the others experiences?

YES THIS!!!! I managed a 300 volt zap to the fingers the other day.... Not a pleasant experience. There will be power wires going to the circuit board that controls the strobe. These wires will be live with 300 or so volts due to the capacitor not being fully discharged.

My recommendation first is don't mess with it. If, however, you are like me and choose to forge ahead consequences be damned, discharge the capacitor by soldering two leads on the contacts of a normal 120-220V light bulb and touch the bare ends of the lead to the two wires coming from inside the flash body and attaching the to the strobe circuit board. The bulb will light brightly then go out. Do this several times over the course of a day or two to ensure the capacitor is fully discharged. DO NOT PUT BATTERIES BACK IN THE FLASH UNTIL YOU ARE DONE FIXING IT.

That should make a safe flash for you. I will see if i have some pics lieing around of my AF 540 fgz I took apart. It may be similar and useful enough for you to see what you need to look for and repair.

K3-ii AF issues and SR

Interesting. So its good when you are using phase detect (view finder) and back focusing when using contrast detect (live view) on a tripod. Does it back focus when you have the shake reduction on when using the veiw finder on the tripod (i know you shouldn't do this but just for reference....)

I have heard of live view requiring a press or two of the AF butting to get the image in correct focus so this may be something inherent in the camera. If I may make a recommendation, when focusing for shallow depth of field using live view, turn on focus peaking (if you haven't already) which will outline the object that is in focus in white lines. Also, pressing "ok" during focusing will magnify the image when using live view and again outline the portion of the image in white that is in focus. I have found this to be a life saver when doing stuff with shallow DOF.

Shallow depth of field and back focusing you say?

A little more information about your shooting style and the test method used to determine the front/back focusing might help direct folks to a solution for you. Maybe address the use of the a tripod and typical aperature in general shooting style and your methodology for focusing testing such as if you used a tripod during your focus testing. Also, perhaps, include if you were able to compare pictures using the contrast detect v.s. phase detect focus methods as contrast detect is very accurate but slow and phase detect is faster but not always accurate.

However, most of my experience with shallow depth of field relies on the use of a tripod to keep the whole rig steady and that also means that the SR is off. With the shake reduction on while on a tripod it can cause some undesirable effects, though others may be best to state whether your particular issue is related.

I was a Horrible Photographer (An inspirational message)

I have, for some time taken a break from photography. I only recently came back after having spent roughly the equivalent of a k-1 kit on a mountain bike and gear (old hobby I still very much enjoy).

Part of my return involved looking at old photos, and seeing what I did wrong or where I could do better. The trip down memory lane also kinda got me down, believing I sucked then, perhaps I am not any better now.

Well that appears to not be true, I do pretty ok (most of the time) and it appears I am not the only one with this line of progression. What is really cool is when you see someone who is a professional photographer be willing to open up their archives and share their humble beginning photographs and be willing to say "Yep that was me and man have I come a long way and so will you"

So I give you, this guy Peter Mckinnon. I don't know much about him other than he was willing to share, critique, and laugh at his photographs from when he started as well as compare them to where he is now 13+ years later.
