Digiscoping PF-CA35 vs T adapter

The PF-CA35 comes from a time when there were no dslr. It is made for 24x36mm. Therefore with APS-C you will only get a small crop onto your sensor. Regarding the long focal distance and bad seeing (shimmering) many pictures won't be as good as expected.

On my german website, I have a tutorial for digiscoping. There is a page about the PF-CA35. Even though you might not understand what is written there, the pictures show a lot. Pentax Digiscoping Adapter PF-CA35 Digiskopie

Beneath this title 'Pentax Adapter am Zeiss Spektiv' you can see a comparison of pictures. The left was taken with a Pentax K-3 with the 2,8/40mm behind the eyepiece. The image on the right side was taken without the eyepiece and without the 40mm lens but with the PF-CA35 on 35mm film. I used an old PEntax K2 because I didn't have a FF DSLR for the test. Clearly you can see that the PF-CA35 is made for 24x36mm.

As you can see on that webside, I have combined the PF-CA35 with the lens of a microscope. There are many different of those. With some of them combined with the PF-CA35, it is possbile to make good pictures.

Pentax K-5 with a telescope - long distance birdwatching

1. fringing is not an issue.
2. ...
3. I've never tried it. I put my large telescopes onto a tripod and focus manually.
4. Yes, I'm using a flattener or a 2x teleconverter.

I recommend that you get a Skywatcher ED80 Pro, which is cheap, compact and easier to handle. With the 900mm focal distance of the 120/900 shimmering air can become problematic.

Here you can see a video which I've produced three days ago. The images were taken with a Sky-Watcher ED80 Pro andPentax K-5 DSLR. This equipment is supported by a wooden tripod with a head, which is known in astronomy as the azimuthal mount named AYO. It comes from switzerland.

Hi, I use a Skywatcher ED 120 Evostar telescope with 900mm focal distance on my Pentax K-5 for taking pictures and footage of shy birds, which are to far away for a 300mm lens.

See here a video on Youtube. Never mind the german title. The pictures say enough.

Win a Pentax lens for in time for Christmas: banner design contest! (ends 12/20)

I submitted this one.

I like romansolar's proposals. Remembering the old Asahi PEntax is a nice idea. This forum can do that, it is not linked to the actual products. I think that many people who use pentax like this brand because old lenses can still be used with modern DSLRs.

My opinon about the winning banner: The right side is okay, the solgan is very good but I definitely don't like the the wheel on the left side. The banner is not inspiring whereas romansolar's are.

Merry Christmas

Vintage Teleobjektiv. Pentax SMC-A 2.8 / 135mm
