No. I am the original owner. The only thing done to the lens is the mount correction by Sigma to avoid the scratch to the K1. Please notice that the lens I have it does not contain the word MACRO in the name description and it reads HSM. Instead of HSM II. Therefore, it is a different version.

Just to share information which model works, I have a Sigma 70-200 2.8 DG APO OS HSM. This model is HSM and it works with the K1 II.

Have you changed the psu already?
I think is most likely the psu.
Second is the video card drivers which you already updated. Does this video card requires direct power from the psu? Is that Connected? Is the video card fan spinning?

As shown in the photos in the article of the original post, Sigma replaced the flange in certain lenses so it will not scratch the camera body.

I recently bought a Sigma 35 1.4 from B&H, it already came compatible.
Prior than that I have a Sigma DG 24-70 2.8 and a Sigma DG HSM 70-200 2.8 which I sent to Sigma USA and they replaced parts and made them compatible for free.
Great service from Sigma. I enjoy my Sigma lenses.

in the PC where you got an error try to connect into a different usb port. If you tried the front port, try the port in the back of the computer for example.
do not use USB extension cables.
do not force the cable into the camera usb port.
this type of usb cable is also is common also to charge phones and other devices so you may want to try a different port/different cable.
use the original pentax battery fully charged. turn on camera after cable is connected.

Min 16gb ram
500gb SSD preferred min - do not buy mechanical hard drive
It is better to have dedicated video card
Therefore from your 2 choices maybe the 2nd
But also think about portability
I would not pay more than $750 for a very nice laptop

I do not have these units but you may want to try in a different computer to try to eliminate any incompatibility with the USB port in your PC.

today 3 days later my k-1 playback button is working normally again. The only difference I can say I have between the last weekend and now is that I was at 11,000 feet above sea level when it was not working and I am now at 600 feet above sea level when it is working today.. I am not saying this is the cause of this very strange behavior, just stating my observations.
I am pretty sure the only diffference is altitude and related temperature, humidity, ....

K-1 Playback button / function stopped working
Suddenly my K-1 playback button / function has stopped working. It worked maybe 1 of 10 tries for an hour or so when I noticed today and now I think I can not playback anymore. It takes pictures fine. Last firmware 1.4 , I use san disk extreme pro cards. I have formatted cards, tried different cards, reset, different lenses. Nothing fixes it. Anything else I can try before sending it for repair? It has failed me just I need it the most traveling overseas.

Yes I am sure there are images on the card because once I noticed the failure to switch to playback I started to test formatting the card, reset, different card and lenses etc I was able to see my new test pics when I was able to playback in one of ten trials for example. Initially it would switch to playback after a reset or pulling battery out but lately not anymore.
Yes it seems that only the playback button is the only function not working. More specifically I would say when the playback button is pressed the camera fails to switch to playback mode resulting in continue to stay in camera mode or a a couple of times on switched but black screen and a couple of times on successful display of pics taken I every 20 trials.

After the latest firmware update the button to playback and the pictures is not working all the time. I am not sure if this is related.
