Christiantypet. I tried fitting a lens cap over the filter but there's no place for it. I feel comfortable not using a lens cap bcause the hood and filter provide plenty of protection, in my opinion. Also, the combo hood and filter are so much more convenient because I never have to take them off.
Taking the hood and filter off might tend to strip or jam the delicate threads of these two items, so I wouldn't want to spoil a good thing. Freddy

metal lens hood fror DA35mm plastic fantastic. No problem. Order from Amazon: Rainbow imaging MM49 $7.99. for the 49mm hood. Then I screwed onto the OUTSIDE of the lens hood a Hoya 58mm UV lens filter. Just, really to give it extra protection for the lens.
Both of those fit like a glove. I never take it off. Any of my DA35 shots taken and shown here were using that combo. Freddy P.S. Once in a while I clean off the UV filter with a good quality lens cloth. Freddy
P.S. Sure it adds about an inch to the lens but worth it to me for the protection.

Another amazing shot, Swift. Thanks for sending these. They're telling me a lot about that really neat 35. The perfect focus on the headlight
set up the rest of the shot with nice bokeh. Nice character in that shot. Freddy

I finally hit my front lawn this morning with a bright early sun, looking for some "Yarrow with bokeh".
Here are a few shots I took. Only PP done was to adjust contrast and brightness because I was
experimenting with 800 ISO and 1600 Iso. Glad I got something done with my Plastic 35 (my little baby).

P.S. I also love how you allowed for substantial definition of the boats in the background.

Nice informative tutorial, Ron. Yes, the plastic 35 is very capable. Also , I have gotten some really decent closeups from the old DA18-55. Although not often used by me it certainly has good value going for it. My old Da50-200 lens which , unofrtunately, I sold also took
VERY FINE close up shots. I sold it cheap to one of my neighbours who bought my K100D. I wanted her to get off to a good start and for $30. it was really a nice gift for her. Freddy
P.S. I have also gotten very nice closeups of flowers with my DA16-45. Some people might not realize the versatility of many of the Pentax lenses. Freddy ---------- Post added 05-20-14 at 07:30 AM ----------

Rebefly, very interesting shots with that 35. Middle shot has a cool mysterious quality making it very effective. The third shot is really elegant. Freddy

I like the composition, sharpness and bokeh of both shots, particularly the beer bottle shot. I find the colors in both shots disturbing in that they are too yellow. It may be that the ambient light coming thru the windows or
from the inside lights were picking up colors reflected from some kind of tinted glass, or perhaps an awning over the window was affecting the color coming thru the glass.or the plastic yellow tables may have influenced
what the camera was perceiving. Just my 2 cents. Some viewers mught love the colors in the shots. I do love my plastic 35. It takes amazing pictures. A great little, lightweight walk-around lens. I would bet that the
festival shots you took are terrific. Freddy

My biggest priority at the end of year 2013 (after buying my K30) was to get a really fine lens that had a wide enough angle to take family pictures and do well in low light. So, I bought the DA35mm 2.4 and found it to be not only more than
adequate for family pics in my narrow living room and dark restaurants, without flash, but was wonderfully sharp and colorful as a walkaround, shooting fall foliage and anything else that came into view. I am keenly looking forward to getting the DA50mm 1.8 this spring for under $200. new.
From what I have read it has a wonderful bokeh and even marginally better that the revered M50mm 1.7 ( A lens which I have never been able to focus, with these 74 year old eyes). My every instinct tells me I will be thrilled with the new 50.
Since I bought my K30 I am finding that these new lenses (and the DA55-300, which is marvelous) are a great match to the abilities and the range of the K30. I'm hoping that the 50 will get me some great , fairly close up shots of flowers
and small landscapes, and will do so with a fine bokeh. Those three lenses, along with my wide angle Da16-45, should give me all the tools I need for the kind of photography I do. Rock on Pentax! Freddy/ fevbusch.

Ash, Gareth, Norbert, Pablo, Rolls. Wonderful work from you all. i can reallly see the marvelous impact of the K5. A new "photo" world for us all. I also liked
seeing that ( forget who) the FA lenses are being used. All that old glass and the new lenses work wonders on the new bodies. Thanks, Freddy. P.S. nice lessons
to be learned from your shots!
