Issues with the ME Super and a CPL

Vertical travel shutters are not designed to be adjusted. However, many times the shutter will work properly when cleaned. That being said, I would look for another body.

Some early 6X7 cameras have a 10/21 setting instead of the 120/220 labeling of later cameras.

Pentax Spotmatic advertising 1971

"List price" was 340. Most stores would have sold it for 10-20% less. In Japan, it probably sold for $160 ( I got my Spotmatic with 1.4 from Japan for $129 ). In those days Japanese companies had to have a US importer- hence Honeywell Pentax. That added another layer of cost onto the camera. Canon cameras were imported by Bell & Howell. Nikon cameras by Erenreich Photo Optical Industries.

Pentax ME - inconsistent shutter speeds

Maybe the variable resistors are dirty from oxidation or environmental issues. You can try moving the aperture ring on your lens back and forth quickly for about 15 seconds. The wiper moving back and forth is sometimes enough to clean things off. You can try the same with the compensation dial. DO NOT try to lubricate the shutter. It will only make things way worse.

Ron is right. If you have to make another production run it is easier to use the current coatings. A little cosmetic/function upgrade doesn't hurt either.

Pentax K1000 light meter issue

The most common cause of that in a K1000 is a corroded wire that goes from the battery holder to the circuit board.

Spotmatic F - meter needle issue

When you turn the shutter speed dial you also turn a variable resistor in the meter system. It sounds like there is an issue with that variable resistor. Cleaning might fix it or it needs to be replaced. The same amount of disassembly is involved either way so I wouldn't worry about it.

K2 Battery Light

It could be that the battery test button is pushed in and held that way by crud. The black button next to the light should move in and out when you push it. If it doesn't, try a bit of water or mild cleaner on the tip of a Q-tip swab. Push the head against the button and spin it slowly. If it is a water soluble issue that may fix it. You could also try a tiny drop of oil.

I'm calling BS too. The rays coming out of the DSLR lens only look that way because that is the way canon chose to draw them. I have a friend with a Sony mirrorless outfit. He also has Leica RF equipment. He says that his Leica wide angles don't work very well with his M adapter because of the oblique angles the light hits the sensor toward the edges. His Nikkor SLR 20 and 24 work better because the rays come in straighter from farther away.

Many times, people think dust on the focusing screen is on the mirror. Dust on the focusing screen and the mirror doesn't affect pictures, just as BigMackCam says. It is just annoying. You can't see dust on the sensor by looking through the viewfinder.

Pentax K1000 Lever Stuck

Push the lever with the spring going through it all the way to the front. It will be difficult. When it locks in place, try firing the shutter. That may clear the mechanism. If it doesn't, disassembly will be required.

Pentax Spotmatic missing screw

Pentax used cross point screws on later Spotmatics. The later screws are interchangeable with the older screws in the bottom cover. If you get a screw from a K1000 with a metal bottom cover, it will fit.

It is a 2mm screw that is 3.5mm long. The service manual doesn't state the thread pitch but is is a common machine screw thread pitch.

Spotmatic light seals in an SV

If you really want foam seals, Google AIK-Asahi light seals. They have light seal material cut to different widths. One of the choices is widths from 1.3 (Spotmatic) to 2.5mm on the same sheet. Five of each size. It is adhesive backed.

ME Super shutter release question

The camera will fire without film in it. If you want to know if there is film in a camera you turn the rewind knob in the direction of the arrow. If it spins freely there is no film in the camera. As far as something in the camera, does the wind lever move freely a little bit after you cock the camera or does it click back and forth. The spring that makes the wind lever click back into place can break. You then have a one to three millimeter long bit of spring floating inside the camera which can cause problems.

If you are using it on a K1000 or other manual camera, you don't use the A setting. If you are using it on your k-r then you should leave the lens on A and set the aperture with the control dial on the camera.

Scanned negatives VS old school prints

Labs like Richard use a Noritsu machine that makes prints and CD's at the same time. The print is 300 dpi for whatever size the print is and the resolution of the CD is determined separately. These prints are digital prints even if they are printed onto chemical imaging paper. Straight optical printer haven't been made for quite a while. Even a old mini lab with a Noritsu 2901 or 3300 should be able to do a good job.

Pentax 6x7 locking up frequently around photo 5?

Try cleaning the battery contacts. Make sure the battery that you are using is fresh. If you are just using a volt meter, know that a battery that measures exactly 6 volts is on the low side of okay. A fresh battery will be more like 6.5 volts. When the camera starts using the battery, the voltage will drop. Low batteries will work for a few shots and then the voltage will drop and the camera won't work. If you let it sit for a while you can get a few more pictures and it will stop again. If the other battery you are using is a spare that came with the camera, buy a new battery.
