So I'm expecting to get ~500 back from taxes in a week or two, and im thinking of adding to my camera collection in some form. Anyone have any suggestions on what i should get? Right now I have a K-5 with an 18-135 WR, a 35 f/2, and a couple of manual film lenses. I have a good bag, good tripod. I was thinking of getting an external flash and potentially a battery grip, but im open to other options. Would love to hear your thoughts.

So i was curious if its possible to set up the k-5 intervalometer to do "bulb" length shots, i.e. greater than 30 seconds. anyone know if you can do this?

probably best to meter once and then lock it, or shoot in manual.

Nik software is top notch stuff. Silver efex pro 2 is my mistress. Well worth the money, and by far my most used software (with the exception of lr itself)

You're correct, however for time-lapse or stop motion (as the op is looking to do) suggest a series of still shots spliced together to make a video. This requires something that takes still shots, rather than continuous video, like a dslr.

100,000 is what it's tested for. i.e. its reliable up to 100,000 actuations. that doesn't mean it will shut down at 100,001. its kind of like the warranty on a new car: it will work beyond the warranty, but you're on your own at that point.

Out of curiosity, any idea how much the camera is worth in working condition? Not looking to sell it, just wondering if its worth putting money into it.

Thanks for the tip, I might contact him at some point, but unfortunately I don't have the money for a repair at the moment (poor college student). The sticking effect seems to be worse at lower shutter speeds. At high speeds it either closes fully or gets about 90% there before getting stuck. at lower speeds, it seems to stick at a wider opening, about 60% open or greater. the shutter curtain seems to have "creases" in it, and im guessing this is what is preventing a clean action.

So I picked up an old Honeywell Heiland Pentax H2 for $8 a couple of days ago. The camera is in great condition with one exception: the shutter tends to stick open, preventing the mirror from coming back down and completing the exposure. Any suggestions on how to fix this (or if it's even possible)?

Distinguishing k-mount lenses

So my dad is a big "treasure hunter" in the sense that he's always checking out resale/antique shops. Is there an easy way to distinguish k-mount lenses from the others? For example, today we were at a goodwill that was absolutely loaded with someones old camera collection (I'm talking 50+ film SLR's, I picked up an old Pentax H2 for $8. If you're near chicago, i can tell you where). Anyways, most of the bayonet mounts look indistinguishable from one another. is there an easy way to tell?

So I've had my K5 for a few months now with my 18-135mm. Now its coming up on x-mas/birthday season and im looking at getting a second lens. My shots on the current lens tend to be on the wider end, so im trying to decide between a fast prime like the sigma 30mm 1.4 or a fast 24-70mm zoom that can do macro. my price range is 800 tops. Flickr: nsolarz13's Photostream those are some of my shots so you can see the stuff i take. Thanks in advance for the input

So i just got my k-5 about a week ago. What are some accessories that you consider must-haves? Right now i have my k-5, an 18-135, a case, and a CustomSLR strap (oh, and a POS tripod we had laying around the house). Any recommendations?

I cannot find a way to get to iso 100 for some reason. The auto iso setting only allows me to go as low as 200. what am i missing?

Can't get the shot you want? shoot it underexposed! blasphemy you say, nay says I.

Image below was pulled back from the black. Only thing done to it was exposure correction (i.e. no noise reduction)

yea, i figured it would be a good one to start with. allows me the versatility. also gives me a chance to figure out what focal lengths im shooting at so i can pick my next lens (most likely a fast prime)

And it has arrived! i am happy to report of great success, with no obvious malfunctions. was a spec o' dust on the sensor, but that cleared off with the camera self-cleaning.

K-5 Firmware 1.11 on its way?

1.1 != 1.10

its a weird convention with software releases. 1.10 is a slight step up from 1.09 etc. whereas 1.1 is a milestone leap.

edit: bah, post above beat me to it lol
