300mm x 2 equals 600mm, not 900mm, the equivalent of 1.5 would give 900mm.

Turning of SR would have probably helped but taking off the 2x TC would have helped more because you lose light when you add one of those to a 300mm lens, when your f stop is low. I don't know what your f stop is on that lens at 300mm. On mine it's usually f6.3, so two steps down would make it f11, I think.
Adding a 2x isn't giving you 900mm it's only giving you 600mm. It's 2 x 300mm, not 300mm x 300mm.

Yes, :D

And since you have that knowledge, you should have known 2s was too slow a shutter speed to capture the moon, right?

A google search on how fast the moon orbits earth:

The Moon orbits Earth at a speed of 2,288 miles per hour

Moon moves faster than we think it does. No science-inclined to it. We just know it does. LOL Learned that in science in primary school. ;) Plus a little common sense helps too. :D

Now that's why I said what I did about your shutter speeds should have been at least 1/200s or 1/400s. Not 2s. :D I guess you missed what I said. ;)

I've shot moon at 300mm and gotten good results at the settings I gave you. Yes, they were cropped but still the moon was in focus after the crop. Cropping in photography is allowed. ;)

Anytime it's on a tripod, SR should be turned off, IMO. I've found it helps keep blur down. Course a 2x TC isn't the best for long lenses either because they give you less light. I've never shot the moon on a 2s timer. That maybe your problem too. Moon shots are usually the f11 rule, f11 @ISO100 or @ISO200 shutter 1/200s to 1/400s so I've heard and or read here on the forum. My photography professor says f8. at those ISOs and shutter speeds.

Was it on a tripod and did you have SR turned off?
