I forgot. Use two zones of prefocus. Medium and more large distance.

In Manual focus, F/ 1,4 options to me:

The n 1, MC Rokkor PG 50 mm. Follow by Summilux R E 60, Planar, S-M-C, S. T (not the 8 elements, please), Fd SSC, Nikon AIS.

But I repeat, the rokkor is magical to me.

There are a lot of very, very good 50 lenses out there. I have two in SRL, the SMC 1,4/50 M42 and the MC Rokkor PG 1,4/50. Both, first class lenses. I guess that no other 1,4/50 lens surpase the IQ of that lenses. The C/Y Zeiss, the Canon SSC or FD, Leica R and Nikon, at the same level.

I tried a ST 24 mm, oldest ST 3,5/28, ST 1,4/50 (7 and 8 elements), S-M-C 1,4/50, SMC 1,4/50, SMC 2,8/105, SMC 2,5/135 2nd V., ST 3,5/135, Tajumar 5,6/200.

Now I only have a SMC 1,4/50. I like to add a SMC 2/35 and one 85 any version.

The filter always produced a bit of lost of IQ.

The best filter (B&W, Heliopan, etc), the less lost.

The filter add surfaces of glass. More surfaces, more reflections. More reflections less IQ.

The lenses without MC have more internal reflections than the MC ones. And the SC (non MC) have less reflections than the non coarted at all (previous to the end of the II WW).

Good luck. Your 105 is a great lens.

The 5,6/200. Very contrasted, very good colours rendering, sharp form wide open. Yes, I know, it's F/5,6 lens, but the mayoprity of 200 lenses are F/4, only one paerture fsater. No much, almost nothing.
And only a few F/4 have the very good IQ of the tele takumar 5,6/200.

SLIDES

Put the ISO at 200 (if you use a 100 film)

To take a pic, meter only the high lights of the scene. For all the subjects more clear than the 18 % gray target (= to the average brown of the trees), open 1/2 aperture more. Except: white subjects, open 1 aperture.

Subjects equal to 18% gray, the meter reading without correction.

There are two classes of photographies.

1-The technical, in which there are admired the technical virtues of the lens used.

2-The artistic ones, where it appreciates the sensibility of the photographer.

With all the respect, why the ricoh and not the takumar ?

Less cost? Well, it's reasonable. Another reasons?

Impact of a cheap UV filter

1- You are talking about the UV filters test - Introduction - Lenstip.com

That inform doesn't refer to the incidence of the filter in the resolving power of the lens, that was the subject of my test.

How much Pl/mm can the Heliopan tansmit, based in the inform? We don't know.

2- Leica didn't know it, heliopan made some leica's filters (B&W made them too). Well, we can assume that LEICA didn't know very much about glasses (Schott ones).

3- 1- That not change the message : the negative effect of the filters over the lens optical complex.

The tests are very useful but they must be read and interpret properly.

Regards.

Do you like the ol non coated lenses (previous to 1946/50) try the tessar 6,3/150 lf lens.

That lens is for someone who saids that the old non coated can't be saturated and contrast. The older tessar design lenses have only 6 surfaces air-glass, so can be contrast, in the facts, there are some.

With white balance, all is ok.

But here I suposse that we are talking about the characteristic of the lenses themselves, without consider what can we do, or not, with PP process.

By the other hand, I have seen a lot of images, in comparision tests, and the yellowed takumar lens produce a yellowish image, more than another lenses there were in the tests too.

Of course, all depend of the yellow cast deep. If the cast is very light, you are right, the image could be not affected. But when the cast is more strong, the IQ is highly affected.

Impact of a cheap UV filter

Several years ago, I did a test using my konica 1,7/50 mm lens (very good, endeed), an UV and skylight filters . both Heliopan with multi coated (very good too), and XP2 Super film at iso 400. (something fast, to use all the apertures possibles).
And a cheap piece of common acrylic transparent of 1 mm.

Without any filter, I had at F/5,6, the resolving power was 90 pl/mm (at iso 400 not bad = 180 l/mm).

With UV filter, not 90, only 70 pl/mm.

With SK filter, 60 pl/mm it's OK, 70 pl/mm not very clear with some sagital CA. I suposse 65 pl/mm.

With acrylic, 60 pl/mm. What??? Yes, 60 pl/mm.

Between the less intrusive heliopan (UV one) and the crude acrylic piece the difference was less than with or without the filter.

Ridiculous? It may seems, but certainly.

1- Respect the S-M-C, none, it's better (to me)

2- Respect the S.T.,

a) The 8 el. has less or not yellowish cast at all. It's very important. As you know, the yellowish cast and the virtual necesity of put the lens under UV light (or similar) time to time, is one of the few cons of the S.T. 7 elements lens.
And if you don't do this, the image can lose the IQ natural of the takumars lenses.

b) The 8 el. has more resolution power (only a bit, but there is).

c) The 8 el. has better bokeh.

c) Marginally, the 8 el. is less common than the 7 ones, and that improves the interest over it and increases the resale value.

The S-M-C (and SMC too) is over all the S.T., 8 or 7 el.

And my choice among the S.T.s is the 8 el. because all that I said before.

Regards.

All fine lenses, buy them now, in the next time will increase the price.

2/35 (PRO and SMC), S-M-C and 8 elements 1,4/50, any 1,8-1,9/85, SMC 2,8/105, 2,5/135 V.2.

For my taste they are the best takumars to buy now.

It's nice to know anothers habits, with respect. The same as we like to have from the others.

Only one thing is inside my head and wanto to ask you. Why do you not use 1,4/50 ? Excuse me, but it seems to me like a very good lens for your usually work showed here.

Thanks again.

Hi V5planet.

Your pics are greats, and your 105 lens (like mine) was borned to portraits (people, animals, plants and things ones).
Very nice colors rendering. Not the sharpest lens ever made, of course. My son in law told me that his 2,5/135 6 elements is sharper, but for portraits no the sharper please.
Congrats.

Help ID my Super Tak 50mm 1.4

Between my 8 elements and my S-M-C the difference in image is important.
The 8 el. (my copy) is very prone to flare, and the internal reflections degrade the image not only when the light is near or into de pic. If you have a clear wall as background, the "fog" that the wall produced invade all the image.

The SMC coating is a great diference in IQ for me.

And with the SMC, high contrast, the appearance of more resolution power is increased.

I, like almos all that I see, have the 2nd version of the 8 element with serial number 1.4xx.xxx. Near the lasts produced.

Said that, I like more the 8 element than any version of the S.T. 7 element not SMC.

Rino.
