Shipping Notification

Hi Steven,

"Pentax O-TM80 Tripod Mount" has been packed and has been assigned a tracking number(s) . It will be shipped by the end of today. Please find all shipping details below.

I also did see that Adorama now lists the tripod mount as back-order. Talk direct to Ricoh Imaging, USA if you are looking for one as they sell all Pentax items, no need for third party sellers .As I now have the DFA *80-200 f2.8 and the DFA150-450 having a spare mount seems like a good idea to me. I will update this thread with images when the item arrives.

Since upgrading my IMac software to Catalina, Pentax Forums has been very slow to load any attachments so I used my IPad, which does not let me [as of yet ] include the “star’ symbol instead of an asterisk when I describe the lens.....SMC A * 400 f 2.8.. I did figure out my IMac was constantly downloading and uploading [ from Apple I presume ] so I turned off auto updates and now PF is back to normal.....

Volume #3, Pentax product stories- " Because the new APS-C-format flagship camera now in development features a range of entirely new components — including the image sensor, imaging engine and accelerator unit — it assures outstanding imaging performance, not only in the high-sensitivity ranges, but at levels of sensitivity as low as ISO 100. All PENTAX SLR cameras also provide a selection of Custom Image modes to provide the fine adjustment of various parameters, making it possible for users to create images with the desired finishing touch right there at the shooting location.

In addition, incorporating an angle-adjustable screen in a compact body often makes it difficult to increase the size of the LCD monitor. That’s why PENTAX decided to equip this new camera with a fixed-type 3.2-inch monitor. This was a decision based on our goal of allowing the photographer to confirm the image’s quality and composition on a larger screen at the shooting location, while still keeping with the basic design concept of a compact, sturdy body. " ...........I guess that answers the flippy screen question.....

"3 way" binocular and monocular projects

Two weeks with these binoculars, VD 4x20 WP, so far. Here are my thoughts. These work perfectly for what I want, instant focus on moving birds and animals. Almost like fixed focus/insta focus. Thankfully my eyesight is very good so I can use these as binoculars or monocular with no issues. Sharp, clear images for me, even in low light. I have Bushnell, Nikon and Pentax binoculars already, all thumbwheel focusing and to me slow! The VD unit is lightweight, I have many heavy things to lug around already and the included pouch has a belt loop, very nice. The spotting scope function however might be an issue, for me. It is blurry so far, more testing is needed to figure out how I can be using it incorrectly to get such results so far. I will post back when I know more...I just found out the object side does have an adjustment, mine are very stiff [ after reading the instructions numerous times I finally figured there are adjustments, the rubber ring ] so I did not want to bust anything yet, spotting scope is now clear and sharp.

If possible I try and shoot multiple images with SR off and on, have tried this at all shutter speeds. Jury is still out ( over 23,000 shutter count now on the K-3 II ) with the A * 400 but ISO 400 or less always produces the best images...SR on or off.

What I was thinking also, Clackers.

To also update on the whole camera situation, my ex just purchased [ 2 day’s ago ] some not -named camera stuff [big bucks!] A DSLR and 3 lenses. Not Pentax. All her camera stuff for 20 years has been Pentax. I agree she needs a better camera system for what she is doing, wildlife. Birds in flight. Her and I just spent a week testing her stuff [ what we both have in lens/ cameras] and my stuff in central Texas. A big issue Is the temp. Over 100 degrees all this time. My SMC A*400 was the best of all the lens/camera combos. That is not a good sign, as my A* 400 was purchased [by me] in 1988, [1987?] The K-New is too late for her. She has needed a bird in flight camera for many years, but has struggled with Pentax out of loving the system, struggling in the last year, taking way too many images to get 1 good one enough out of way of too many images. Time to switch for her. Ricoh/Pentax just lost someone they did need to lose... I hope the K-new, with a flip screen, arrives in 2 months or less....Too save me from having to think about switching camera systems...[no flip screen, but better than Canikon focus in flight, I will stay]

$600 to repair PENTAX LENS 24-70/2.8 ED SDM Precision Repair, terms of service renege

Consider yourself fortunate, as I cannot get any quotes to even look at an SMC A star 400 F2.8 without sending it to Japan, my cost both ways... Plus a time frame of 3 to 5 moths even before they look at my lens. Granted this is a special Pentax lens that almost no-one can truly repair if needed in the US.The lens still is fully functional and needs no repair but I stay updated on what other Pentax lenses, past or present, might need to be repaired and what obstacles might be encountered. I hesitate to even mention this but here goes, I have worked in the automotive and photographic industries for many years. My recent repairs are with automotive, I repair my own camera equipment...My own recent auto repair experiences are mirror images of what everyone complains about camera repair. Much talk about responsibility on the repair side but no mention of responsibility on the owner side. A recent example... a 2014 Pathfinder the was leaking Freon from the evaporator. Meaning the dash needed to come out. An aftermarket alarm, day glow neon lights, and 3 led light bars had been added but not mentioned when they call for a price quote.. When I was approached about this repair I told the service writer to call the customer and tell them that the quote was a factory labor quote, nothing more as aftermarket items had been installed and I may have to cut wires just to remove the dash to get to the evaporator core, so the quote was just an estimate. 4.5 hours later, quoted as the whole job, the dash was removed. Cutting and re-splicing 4 wires total. Finish job was 6 hours, installing in much faster after than removing.....This is the reality of of any modern repair....Plus if you take your auto in for repair, please clean the interior. No 3 week old McDonalds crap, pens, cigarette boxes, cigar boxes, gum wrappers,, half empty water bottles, children’s toys everywhere and empty Starbucks cups all over the place. It takes the mechanics time just to clean up a vehicle just to try and repair it. I just had to refuse a repair on a newer import truck for a parking brake adjustment. The whole interior of the truck was loaded with freshly laundered clothes, suits and ties on a hanger rack in the back seat area.. The console needed to be removed to adjust the parking brake so the job was not done....you need the back seat area to remove the console.....

Welcome. As with any forum, learn and observe. Ask questions, test anything that comes to mind. As with any camera system, the best results usually will eventually come from the best cameras and lenses. Post processing is also a factor in getting good images. Learn and enjoy......

I Bought a Pentax KP this Week

I have not tried the KP,, K70 or K1,K-11 with my primary telephoto lens, the SMC A 400 f2.8., which I purchased in 1988.I have tried them with many other Pentax lenses They are not what I want in a camera for my photographic usage. I like the K-3 , K-3-II. With my 2 K3-II’s this lens has come alive, like it was during the film era Pentax cameras.{ I have lost much experience using many Pentax film cameras that I have owned back then but the K3-II seems to me to have breathed new life to my SMC A *400 F2.8 ] It may be that good with the other K camera’s but I can attest to only the K3-II with digital, I still use the 1st D, 1st DS and a1st DL, and they are hit or miss on focus/vibration with the 400.... I do not think that I have become a more experienced and a greater photographer, just that my Pentax cameras are that much better than those in the film era. A 36 exposer roll returned a week later is not that helpfully In these times.... [I had an MX with a bulk film back, even 250 exposures are not helpful as everyone of them could be out of focus, over or under exposed and you still had to pay for the negatives...A week later. Digital these days is very nice...
