Pentax HSS with Cactus V6ii and Godox Ving 850 Flash - Success

Thanks, Howie Be, I had also used this set up successfully with my K3 but no luck with my K-1--well, intermittently it seemed to work--but the firmware and the one setting change was all we needed! No need for additional cactus transmitters or any other purchases for once.

I hate to assume the worst about someone or the situation. Plus, the camera is not even valuable beyond the value of what a fun exercise this has been and that we all would like it to continue and be a part of it. If there is a way to message him, we should try. Even if it turns out the camera was lost or busted, surely he understands its better to just let us know rather than to keep us wondering.

Cactus V6II / off camera HSS with a P-TTL flash

I've been experimenting with my Cactus v6ii and HSS using my Godox 850's and Flashpoint 360, by stacking the FT-16 transmitter and it's working fabulously, and I am pleased to have an HSS wireless option now. I purchased the Sigma 610 super for the P-TTL and HSS, but have grown tired of being limited to on-camera or tethered with a cable. In a perfect world my cactus would work with the Sigma and I wouldn't have to invest in any further lighting equipment, but alas, I agree with Nigel in that the ergonomics of the Cactus interface as excellent--small enough to be compact but large enough that I can manage the buttons and see the settings easily. Nothing against Acon, but when I started researching off-camera lighting I was put off by the learning curve and there seemed to be a language barrier making the technical data difficult for me to navigate and understand. Now the website has disappeared so at this point I am thinking I will sell the Sigma (still a very good flash on camera) and get the RF60x.

Acon supports P-TTL and HSS? Their website domain has expired.

Sadly, my Sigma 610 Super wouldn't either. Having HSS and P-TTL seems to good to be true. Got pretty excited by the workaround posted in the forum using HSS by stacking the FT-16 on the Cactus, but following the exact instructions of the OP, I still could not get HSS with my Godox 850s like the OP.

Any word on how K-1 Silver is selling?

I love my silver K-1. People keep asking me about my "vintage' camera--yah, makes me feel artsy. Takes me back to that first 35mm film Pentax--I'm sure that was the point, Ricoh knows Pentaxians are old timers and all that. But now I'm too broke to afford a 24-70 which is on the short list. If only they would make an 85mm 1.4 in silver, my kit would be perfect.

I jumped on the Silver edition, no regrets, already earned its keep for the season, people think I have an "old" camera--love the retro look of the silver, brings me back to the days of the K1000. Lovin it!

I hope someone replies to your question. I LOVE my AD360, so glad for the advice received here. I have two big jobs now that I am confident I will be able to light properly now. I haven't found the softbox I like just yet, but using it with a reflective parabolic or a shoot through umbrella both produced excellent results. Winters are long here in Ohio and I am doing some school pictures the next couple of weeks, on location, that I probably would have passed on before due to my lack of proper lighting equipment.

I actually did not go with the XT32--I went with the older XT16 and the AD360 light. Have only used it a couple of times, but so far I am pretty impressed. The recycle time is crazy fast, not sure how I'll ever go back now! No problem with the unit waking up, but not sure that was an issue with the XT16. All is well in my world.

That is excellent news. I guess there is not a manual (single pin) tx available in the Flashpoint R2 line? But if taping the pins off works, then we are all the better. Pentaxians are nothing if not resourceful.

Were you able to turn off the sleep feature? If so, then it shouldn't matter that it won't wake up. Does it have a meaningful impact on battery life if the sleep feature is disabled?

The XT32 is much more like the XT16, which I think is pretty easy to operate. I just received mine and I am excited to put it to work.

I've watched several videos of Pentax users who mounted the FT16 on a new cactus and got HSS, but I would love to see if anyone has achieved that with the newer 2.4 Ghz equipment (X1 or XT-32). I almost went that way but adorama only had the canon version available and I wanted a nikon (a friend has a Nikon so we could play around and compare notes). In the end an ND filter is a more reasonable fix for me,

I went with the AD360 because the sale price was so great and included the power pack, transmitter and rx. I decided to add a Li-on flash or two for rim lighting, etc. as finances allow. I have a big job coming up in March--school photos for a small private school--and the AD360 will be perfect for that.

I get what you're saying, but then again, two lights mean two stands, two modifiers, brackets, etc. One streaklight is still lighter travel than 2-3 speedlights. You went with two streaklights?

Did I read right that you just purchase the AD360? Did you get the Flashpoint version or Godox? Did you go with the 433 kHz (flashpoint is R1) or the newer 2.4 ghz/R2? I spoke to another Adorama rep who couldn't help me with my multi light set up question, so think I'm going to get the older 360 which is on sale, along with a cactus v6ii. It seems like forum members are saying they are getting comparable coverage from the 360 as what I might get from two speed lights. This makes my studio more portable. Would you agree?

This is pretty exciting. Has anyone managed to recreate this set up with the new 2.4 GHZ equipment? The triggers are different of course.

Also, has anyone been able to do this with both AD360 and Godox speedlights in a 3 light (or more) set up?

At this point I would say Adorama doesn't want my business. I've yet to get someone who can answer my questions. The first person told me the wronf thing, then customer service directed me to a lighting expert who would call me back in 10 minutes but never called, got left on hold indefinitely then cut off, shuffled around, and frankly I'm doubting my judgment in going with them at all.

Thanks, I was surprised how little help I got from Adorama. As soon as I mentioned Pentax, the person said there was no version available to me and offered me the old R1 manual transmitter, which doesn't even work with the R2 flashes without a separate receiver. Apparently our forum members know more about these things than the reps. Don't try to talk to cactus about stacking a Godox trigger on the V6ii either...on their forum that rep stated the cactus was not designed to do that and had no idea what the OP was talking about, although they might have just been practicing CYA. So I return to the trial and error learning of the pentaxians. Anyway, I am going to call Adorama again today and try to get someone who can talk to me about the AD360 to make sure I am getting what I want to add that later to my lighting set up.
